Abstract

This article examines charismatic authority in pesantren-based da'wah, a dimension of Islamic education leadership that remains underexplored. While Max Weber’s concept of charisma has been widely applied in political and organizational studies, its relevance to Indonesian pesantren leadership is rarely addressed. Taking KH Thoifur Mawardi of Daarut-Tauhid, Purworejo, as a case study, this research analyzes how charisma operates as both personal virtue and institutional capital in sustaining transformative da'wah. A qualitative approach was employed through interviews, participant observation, and documentation, with triangulation ensuring data credibility. The study shows that KH Thoifur’s charisma, rooted in moral integrity, Islamic scholarship, and emotional proximity to the community, enables him to mobilize spiritual awareness, social solidarity, and pesantren-based economic initiatives. Although limited to a single institution, the study critically adapts Weber’s notion of charisma to the pesantren context, offering a contextual framework that links leadership, spirituality, and social change. It concludes that effective da'wah must be participatory, human-centered, and sustainable to address contemporary challenges.

Abstract

Sexual harassment in public spaces has become a critical social issue affecting women's safety and well-being in urban environments. This study examines the forms, psychological impacts, and societal responses to sexual harassment experienced by women in public spaces in Semarang City, Indonesia. Utilizing a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with two key informants from UPTD PPA DP3A Semarang City—administrative officers and victim companions—alongside relevant documentation. Analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, encompassing data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The study reveals that common forms of harassment include groping, thigh and breast squeezing, and breast assault. Victims exhibit freeze responses, crying, and screaming as immediate reactions. Findings demonstrate that patriarchal culture significantly influences perpetrator behavior by objectifying women's bodies. Victims face severe consequences, including victim blaming, social discrimination, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, diminished social relationship quality, sleep disorders, and physical injuries. Analyzed through George H. Mead's symbolic interactionism theory, the research exposes how societal symbols and meanings reinforce gender-based violence and trauma. This study contributes to understanding the intersection of public space safety, gender inequality, and trauma psychology, offering implications for policy development and victim support systems.

Abstract

This paper seeks to demonstrate that the integrated theory of planned behavior (TPB) and entrepreneurial orientation theory significantly influence the entrepreneurial intentions of women entrepreneurs in upper-middle-income countries, particularly in Indonesia. The research provides empirical evidence highlighting the combined effect of TPB and entrepreneurial orientation on women's motivation to engage in entrepreneurial activities. The findings emphasize the significance of subjective standards, offering essential recommendations for policymakers and educators seeking to foster female entrepreneurship in similar economic contexts. The study utilized a quantitative approach through a cross-sectional survey of 329 women entrepreneurs selected via convenience sampling. Data collection employed a standardized questionnaire, modified from previous studies, with responses assessed using a five-point Likert scale. Analytical methods included partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) to assess both measurement and structural models. The findings indicate that the components of TPB and entrepreneurial orientation considerably impact entrepreneurial intentions, with subjective norms having the most substantial effect. The study provides practical recommendations for policymakers and organizations that help entrepreneurs, highlighting the importance of enhancing social support for women entrepreneurs through initiatives such as mentorship programs and entrepreneurship training. These proposals seek to promote entrepreneurial advancement among women in Indonesia and other countries with comparable economic characteristics.

Abstract

Tourism development strategies are an important aspect of tourism development. Bayan Mosque in Lombok is important to develop as religious cultural tourism using a local approach. Applying qualitative methods, case study approach and field research this study aims to uncover the problems faced by the local community in developing cultural tourism; the local community has done to overcome these problems; the impact these efforts have had on the development of Bayan cultural tourism. The study revealed that the problems faced by the local community in developing Bayan religious cultural tourism include a lack of awareness among the local community regarding the potential of Bayan Mosque as a tourist destination, the absence of any institution managing the potential of the tourist destination; insufficient government attention to designing integrated cultural tourism within the community, and the scope of development efforts remains limited. Some young people in Bayan have made efforts such as supporting the emergence of local identity; developing visits to traditional villages around the Bayan Mosque; hearings with the Tourism Office for possible assistance; forming a youth group that promotes tourism awareness; and involving the media in major events at the Bayan Mosque. The impact of these efforts has already led to a significant increase in tourist visits to the Bayan Mosque. These increasing visits are related to the efforts of the local community to involve the media in attracting tourists. It can be concluded that efforts to develop tourism must be comprehensive, including the media.
