Abstract

Pandemi COVID-19 telah mengubah proses belajar mengajar menjadi lingkungan daring yang menantang bagi mahasiswa Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris. Pembelajaran bahasa Inggris memerlukan eksposur luas, tetapi kendala infrastruktur kelas daring menyulitkan komunikasi langsung antara mahasiswa dan dosen serta sesama mahasiswa. Pembelajaran daring, meskipun dilakukan tanpa tatap muka, menggunakan platform dan jaringan internet serta bantuan gawai seperti laptop atau smartphone. Tiga faktor krusial dalam pendukung pembelajaran daring meliputi metode pengajaran, desain pembelajaran, dan ketersediaan infrastruktur. Penelitian ini merupakan studi kasus kualitatif yang mengidentifikasi tantangan yang dihadapi mahasiswa Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang dalam pembelajaran daring. Observasi melalui Grup WhatsApp, Google Classroom, dan Zoom Meeting dari April hingga Juni 2021, didukung dengan dokumentasi tugas dan wawancara, mengungkap keterbatasan dalam pengelolaan kelas dan tantangan teknis. Hasil penelitian menyoroti keterbatasan variasi metode pengajaran, interaksi terbatas antara dosen dan mahasiswa, serta masalah infrastruktur dan ekonomi yang memengaruhi akses mahasiswa terhadap pembelajaran daring. Untuk peningkatan kualitas pembelajaran, perlu diperhatikan literasi digital mahasiswa, penyempurnaan platform pembelajaran daring, serta peningkatan akses infrastruktur. Kesimpulannya, pembelajaran daring, meski memberikan dampak positif bagi persiapan individu di masa mendatang, masih menghadapi berbagai masalah yang memerlukan perbaikan dalam administrasi, teknologi, dan infrastruktur agar lebih efektif, efisien, dan berkelanjutan.

Abstract

This article examines the development of intercultural literacy among students in the English Language Education Program at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang. Using a mixed-method approach, this research explores students' awareness, understanding, and application of intercultural competence in both local and global contexts. The findings reveal that while most students recognize the importance of intercultural literacy, significant gaps remain in its practical implementation. The study offers strategies for enhancing intercultural communication skills through international exchange programs and experiential learning activities. It recommends strengthening the intercultural components of the curriculum to better equip students to become culturally competent educators in multicultural environments.

Abstract

Finding out the different kinds of cohesive devices and how frequently they occur is the goal of this study. The research used qualitative research as a research design. The participants of the study are 6 students in of the senior high school in Karawang who are selected based on the recommendation of the English teacher to collect data. The instruments used in this study were document analysis. The data were then analyzed in accordance to Halliday and Hasan (1976) which cater grammatical cohesion (reference, substitution, ellipsis, conjunction), and lexical cohesion (reiteration and collocation). The researcher discovered that lexical cohesiveness is subordinated to grammatical cohesion. Ellipsis and collocation are the only two aspects of the four that belong to grammatical coherence and the two that belong to lexical cohesion that are absent from the students' narrative texts. With 39 appearances, conjunction is a dominant word in student narrative texts. While the reference in the second position requires 20 appearances, the replacement plays the final three appearances. Conversely, lexical cohesiveness makes a total of six occasions. The most common appearances are repetitions, with six and There are no collocations in the pupils' narrative text.

Abstract

This study focused on investigate students’ attitude towards Quizizz in reading classroom. The participant took 4 students for being interviewed. The study used qualitative analysis to observe the data. The result showed students that they had positive responses to the Quizizz experience. The students indicated that they had positive attitude based on three components. In affective component, students revealed exhibit a high level of satisfaction and enthusiasm when using Quizizz in their reading classes. For behavioral, students are more willing to participate in class activities due to the interactive and enjoyable nature of Quizizz. Furthermore in cognitive Quizizz functions as a tool that aids students in understanding and engaging with the learning material more effectively

Abstract

Reading is one of the most crucial aspects of English language development in school. Strategy or learning method has an important role to improve the students’ ability in reading descriptive text. Think-Pair-Share and Discovery learning were used to facilitate students' reading through descriptive text. The research intended to implement Think-Pair-Share and Discovery learning in reading descriptive text. The research design used a case study. The participants are one teacher and one student at English class of eighth grade. Meanwhile, the instruments used to collect data are observation checklist and interview guide. Thus, the researcher is analyzed by using data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion and verification. The findings show insight into the positive outcomes of employing the TPS strategy and the discovery learning method when teaching and learning descriptive text. The conclusion based on the observations and interview provided, the researcher has concluded that the Think-Pair-Share strategy and the discovery method are strategies and methods utilized by English teacher to teach reading descriptive texts in the eighth grade classroom. This collaborative approach not only boosts students' self-confidence but also encourages them to be more enthusiastic and willing to solve problems together. Think-Pair-Share strategy through the discovery learning method has been shown to better students' learning outcomes and reading comprehension abilities.

Abstract

Self-regulated learning is an independent and effective process where learners can fully control their learning. This narrative inquiry research aims to investigate the perspectives and experiences of EFL students who frequently watch YouTube videos to learn English outside of the classroom. The data from six participants of one of state university in Karawang, Indonedia were collected through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. It was found that the majority of the students’ showed positive perceptions towards the use of YouTube for their goal commitment, affective, resource, and culture regulation. In contrast, the students showed negative perceptions towards the use of YouTube for their metacognitive and social regulation. Regarding students’ experiences, the findings revealed: (1) English skills that can be improved by frequently watching YouTube are listening and speaking skills; (2) the students tend to like the videos as feedback; (3) each student has a different preference on what videos and channels they usually watch to help them learn English; and (4) learning English using YouTube was considered to be more flexible, easier to be understood, and more enjoying than formal learning; nonetheless, formal learning can help the students practice their English more. In conclusion, using YouTube videos was considered to be helpful to accommodate the students’ self-regulated English learning.

Abstract

Learning language nowadays can be done by many ways including using mobile technology or mobile phone and its applications. Learning uses mobile applications not only can be done by using app-based language learning, but also using general application. This descriptive case study was used to investigate and find out about pre-service teachers’ levels and perceptions on the use of mobile applications for language learning. The data from six pre-service teachers were collected by using semi-structured interviews and questionnaire. The result showed that all of pre-service teachers have different levels of using mobile applications for language learning based on their purposes, challenges and experiences. In addition, most of pre-service teachers have positive perceptions on the use of mobile application for their language learning regarding on aim-mobile technologies fit, appropriate of branch, and forms of m-learning application and tools’ sufficient adequacy of communication, the findings revealed that (1) mobile applications remove the limitation of time and space; (2) mobile applications are reliable for personal use; and (3) course materials could be sent to students via mobile applications. In conclusion, the use of mobile applications for language learning are helpful for pre-service teachers.

Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology provides significant opportunities in education; however, its utilization by teachers remains limited. This community service activity aimed to enhance the competencies of teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Ciampel Karawang in utilizing AI for developing effective, creative, and innovative lesson plans. The implementation methods included: (1) training on AI platform usage (ChatGPT, Canva AI, Grammarly); (2) mentoring in AI-based lesson plan development; and (3) evaluation of implementation results. The activity involved 20 teachers from various subjects. Results demonstrated: (1) a 78.5% increase in teachers' understanding of AI in education based on pre-test and post-test; (2) completion of 20 innovative AI-based lesson plans with average quality score of 85.1 (Excellent); (3) increased teacher satisfaction with lesson plan development ease scoring 4.60/5.0. This activity contributes to improving the quality of learning planning and promoting technology integration in teaching and learning activities in the digital era.
