Abstract

Kolcaba's Comfort Theory emphasizes holistic nursing care by fulfilling patients' comfort needs in four contexts: physical, psychospiritual, sociocultural, and environmental. The Emergency Department (ED) is a high-pressure healthcare setting that requires not only rapid and accurate clinical interventions but also comfort-based nursing services. This study aimed to analyze the determinants of Kolcaba Comfort Theory–based nursing care in the Emergency Department of PMC Hospital, Pekanbaru. This study employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. A total of 96 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire. The questionnaire was tested for validity and reliability before data collection. All items were declared valid based on the Pearson correlation test, and the instrument was reliable with a Cronbach’s alpha value > 0.70. Analyzed using chi-square test for bivariate analysis and multiple logistic regression for multivariate analysis. The bivariate analysis showed significant associations between age (p=0.027), educational level (p=0.001), effective nurse communication (p=0.001), and service environment (p=0.001) with Kolcaba Comfort Theory–based nursing care. However, multivariate analysis revealed that only educational level (p=0.000; OR=31.889; 95% CI=6.395–159.014) and service environment (p=0.024; OR=0.155; 95% CI=0.031–0.785) remained statistically significant. Educational level was identified as the most dominant determinant. The final model showed a Nagelkerke R Square value of 0.707 and an overall classification accuracy of 90.6%. Conclusion: Kolcaba Comfort Theory–based nursing care in the Emergency Department of PMC Hospital, Pekanbaru is significantly influenced by patients’ educational level and the service environment, which contribute to achieving holistic patient comfort.

Abstract

Continuity of nursing care is an important indicator of hospital service quality and is strongly influenced by the effectiveness of communication among nurses, particularly during handover. One communication method recommended to enhance patient safety is SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation). Integrating the SBAR method with Jean Watson's caring theory is expected to strengthen clinical communication in a more humanistic and holistic manner. This study aimed to analyze the effect of SBAR handover implementation on the continuity of nursing care in the inpatient wards of Pekanbaru Medical Center Hospital. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with control and experimental groups. This study used a total sampling technique involving 30 inpatient nurses, who were divided into an experimental group (n = 15) and a control group (n = 15). Data were collected by measuring continuity of nursing care scores before and after the intervention. Data analysis was conducted using the Generalized Linear Model Repeated Measures to assess changes in scores over time and differences between groups. The results showed that before the intervention, the mean continuity of nursing care scores were 37.27 ± 5.92 in the control group and 35.67 ± 4.37 in the experimental group. Following the implementation of SBAR handover, scores increased in both groups; however, the improvement was greater in the experimental group, with a mean score of 50.93 ± 1.10 compared to 41.80 ± 3.45 in the control group. The control group showed a statistically significant improvement (p = 0.020), whereas the experimental group demonstrated a highly significant increase (p = 0.000). Between-group analysis revealed a significant difference (F = 9.414; p = 0.005), as well as significant time effects and time × group interaction effects (p = 0.000). In conclusion, the implementation of SBAR handover was effective in improving the continuity of nursing care in inpatient wards.

Abstract

Discharge planning a day prior to discharge is vital for care continuity. TThis study aims to analyze the determinants of nursing service quality, including nurse competence, knowledge, motivation, and role perception. A descriptive correlational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 110 associate nurses in the inpatient ward using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and observation checklists. Prior to data collection, the instruments were tested for validity and reliability. The validity test results indicated that all questionnaire items were valid, while the reliability test showed good internal consistency with Cronbach’s alpha values greater than 0.70 for each variable. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to determine the influence of nurse competence, knowledge, motivation, and role perception on the quality of nursing services.. The observation results showed a very high compliance rate (90.9 percent). The analysis proved that competence, knowledge, and nurse roles were not significant. Nurse motivation was proven to be the only dominant factor influencing the compliance level. In conclusion, intrinsic motivation determines nurse performance amidst competence and procedural homogeneity.

Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACT Strabismus, commonly known as crossed eyes, is a condition in which both eyes are misaligned when focusing on the same object. One or both eyes may deviate inward (esotropia), outward (exotropia), upward (hypertropia), or downward (hypotropia). This condition results from an imbalance in the neuromuscular system that controls eye movement, impaired brain-eye coordination, and abnormal binocular vision. This study aims to analyze the effect of audiovisual-based education on visual coordination in patients after strabismus surgery. The study employs theGeneralized Linear Model Repeated Measure (GLM-RM) method to examine differences in the effects of audiovisual education between the intervention and control groups. Results: The GLM-RM analysis indicated a significant difference between the intervention and control groups after receiving audiovisual education, with a mean difference of 97.78 and a p-value of 0.000. The Greenhouse-Geisser test showed a significance value of 0.000, while the test of between-subjects effects revealed a statistically significant difference between the two groups (p-value = 0.000). Additionally, the parameter estimates test confirmed a significant effect of audiovisual education on patients’ visual coordination over time (p-value = 0.000). Conclusion: Audiovisual-based education has a significant positive impact on improving visual coordination in patients following strabismus surgery. Keywords: Audiovisual Education, Visual Coordination, Strabismus.
