Abstract

Artikel ini membahas tentang salah satu akun Instagram yang dikelola oleh nahdliyyin, sebutan untuk kader atau simpatisan Nahdlatul Ulama/NU (organisasi Islam terbesar di Indonesia), Gerakan Nahdliyyin Bersatu atau GNB. Media sosial GNB, termasuk Instagram, di masa Pilpres 2024 sibuk mengunggah konten-konten kampanye mendukung pasangan Anies Baswedan dan Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar. Saat ini, Instagram GNB bertransformasi menjadi media komunikasi dakwah Islam. Studi ini bertujuan mengungkap bagaimana komunikasi dakwah diimplementasikan di Instagram GNB. Teori yang digunakan dalam kajian ini adalah Komunikasi Dakwah (Azyumardi Azra) dan Sosioteknologi (Rully Nasrullah). Metode yang digunakan dalam kajian ini adalah analisis konten kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Instagram GNB memanfaatkan simbol-simbol nahdliyyin dalam konten yang diunggah. Simbol yang dimaksud antara lain, kiai atau pengasuh pondok pesantren; pesantren; dan acara-acara khas nahdliyyin semacam ziarah kubur dan haul (peringatan hari wafat para pemuka Islam). Dalam konten-konten tersebut, disertakan pesan-pesan dakwah atau ajakan berbuat baik. Studi ini menyimpulkan bahwa media dan agama, dalam hal ini Islam, memiliki hubungan yang erat di era kekinian. Faktanya, umat Islam memanfaatkan media mutakhir, termasuk Instagram, untuk menyebarkan pesan-pesan dakwah atau kebajikan. Kata Kunci: Media; Islam; Gerakan Nahdliyyin Bersatu; Dakwah; Instagram

Abstract

Among the teaching practitioners in Indonesia, there is a general belief that some learners of English in some Indonesian pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) have a negative view on English, which consequently affects their motivation. However, it remains unclear what has affected the trend. The current study investigates this issue in three pesantren schools in Indonesia affiliated with different Islamic groups. Using the L2 Motivational Self System (L2MSS) model proposed by Dörnyei (2009) as an analytical lens, a survey instrument was designed to describe and compare students’ motivation to learn English (n = 376). A multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was run to describe and compare the students’ motivation, and a stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed to discover which motivational factors made the most significant contribution to motivation by predicting reported learning effort in English.  In addition, a thorough document analysis was performed to obtain background information regarding the teaching of English in the three institutions. It was found that institutional factors do play a role in influencing the learners’ motivation, in that in the most religiously conservative context, the school policy does shape the learners’ ideal L2 self. As the learners’ ideal L2 self was weak, it leads to weak motivational power as well. The paper concludes by emphasizing the crucial role of educational contexts in shaping students’ ideal selves and in providing favourable learning experience, which are key elements in motivating learners to learn English.

Abstract

It is important to create a supportive environment for children to memorize the Quran. A positive environment, such as support from parents and the community, can increase children's interest in learning and memorizing the Quran. This activity aims to create a fun, competitive atmosphere, so that children are more motivated to memorize the Quran, especially Juz 30. This mentoring program uses a qualitative approach with participatory action research to explore the factors that influence children's motivation and interest in memorizing. The results of this activity are expected to shape a generation that loves the Quran and has noble morals, as well as strengthen social support from family and community.

Abstract

Demotivation factors of ESP students need to be analyzed so that teachers and researchers can provide better approaches to teach them, especially during trying times such as Covid-19 pandemic. Thus, the present study aims to analyze demotivation factors of a group of ESP learners during Covid-19 pandemic. In order to obtain its data, the present study applies a sequential explanatory method. A set of questionnaires were distributed to 48 respondents and semi-structured interviews were conducted to five respondents. The results show that the most salient factors which demotivate the respondents are teachers’ competence and teaching styles as well as inadequate school facilities. On the other hand, lack of intrinsic motivation is shown to be the least salient demotivation factor. The results of present study suggest that the respondents seemed to be demotivated because teaching styles and learning materials are perceived as unsuitable for their needs to improve their English skills and future careers as engineers. In addition, online learning was perceived by the respondents as less ideals to teach English despite their intrinsic motivation to learn English for their personal as well as career gains in the future. Possible solutions are also discussed in the present study. HIGHLIGHTS: Lack of intrinsic motivation is seen as the least demotivating factor. Demotivation factors among ESP learners need to be investigated because they would provide more information to improve learners’ motivation. The present study shows unsuitable teaching styles and materials can lead to students’ demotivation. Conducting needs analysis seems imperative to provide a better teaching approach as well as materials for ESP students.

Abstract

This study presents the development of the KATAKU (Kata untuk Tunarungu Interaktif dan Unik) application as an educational tool designed to support vocabulary learning for deaf students. Deaf students, who have the same educational rights as their hearing peers, often attend Special Schools (SLB). The integration of visual aids and technology in learning has proven effective in increasing their engagement and interest. This study employed a mixed-methods approach, including vocabulary assessments for deaf students, classroom observations, and teacher interviews for a needs analysis to identify the specific requirements of schools and students. Results from the vocabulary assessments revealed that deaf students face significant challenges, particularly with academic terms and word categorization. Classroom observations at three SLB schools in Jombang highlighted engaging but challenging learning dynamics, reinforcing the need for accessible and efficient teaching tools for educators. Teacher interviews indicated that using the paper dictionary provided by the Ministry of Education can be time-consuming and lacks efficiency. This study concludes that deaf students in Jombang face substantial obstacles in vocabulary comprehension, especially with academic vocabulary. The findings underscore the need for targeted vocabulary interventions using modern technological tools to better prepare students for advanced educational demands.

Abstract

Spiritual education serves as a strategic approach for higher education institutions in shaping the future global civilization based on humanistic and divine values. This study aims to analyze the contribution of higher education in embedding spiritual values as the foundation for character formation and peaceful global culture. Using a library research approach, data were gathered from scientific literature on spiritual education, character development, and global civilization building. The results reveal that integrating spiritual education into university curricula enhances students’ spiritual intelligence, moral awareness, and social–ecological responsibility. Spiritual education acts as a transformative instrument in forming holistic individuals who are self-aware and committed to world peace. The findings highlight the strategic role of higher education in fostering a civilized global society through transformative spirituality. Pendidikan spiritual merupakan strategi penting bagi perguruan tinggi dalam membangun peradaban dunia masa depan yang berlandaskan nilai-nilai kemanusiaan dan ketuhanan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kontribusi pendidikan tinggi dalam menanamkan nilai spiritual sebagai fondasi pembentukan karakter dan budaya global yang damai. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan studi kepustakaan, data dikumpulkan dari berbagai literatur ilmiah tentang pendidikan spiritual, nilai karakter, dan pembangunan peradaban global. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa integrasi pendidikan spiritual dalam kurikulum perguruan tinggi mampu mengembangkan kecerdasan spiritual mahasiswa, memperkuat moralitas, serta menumbuhkan tanggung jawab sosial dan ekologis. Pendidikan spiritual menjadi instrumen strategis dalam membentuk manusia yang holistik, sadar diri, dan berorientasi pada perdamaian dunia. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa pendidikan tinggi berperan signifikan dalam mewujudkan peradaban global yang berkeadaban melalui spiritualitas transformatif.

Abstract

The objectives of this study are: 1. To determine the influence of leadership on work discipline on Islamic institutions Syarifuddin Wonorejo Lumajang; 2. To find out the influence of Work Discipline Motivation on Islamic Religious Institutions Syarifuddin Wonorejo Lumajang; 3. To determine the effect of Work Discipline on Employee Performance at Syarifuddin Wonorejo Lumajang Islamic Institute; 4. To determine the influence of leadership on employee performance at Syarifuddin Wonorejo Lumajang Islamic Institute; 5. To find out the effect of the Work Discipline Motivation on Syarifuddin Wonorejo Lumajang Islamic Institute. In this study, the authors used quantitative research. The population in this study by census technique is to take all employees at the Syarifuddin Wonorejo Lumajang Islamic Institute, totaling 50 (fifty) employees. By using Structural Equation Modeling Analysis (SEM), the results show that there is a significant influence between Leadership on Work Discipline, There is no significant influence between Motivation on Work Discipline, There is a significant influence between work discipline on employee performance, there is a significant influence between leadership on Employee Performance, there was no significant influence between work motivation and employee performance at the Syarifudin Wonorejo Lumajang Islamic Institute. Abstract

Ajem pekang is a side dish of chicken on a cone with its distinctive shape, which is skewered with a stick of bamboo resembling satay. Ajem Pekang is full of the meaning of religiosity and spirituality of the Pandalungan community. Ajem Pekang is a symbolic central form in the traditional rituals of the Pandalungan community. This research is a qualitative research that was compiled based on data collection with interviews, observations and some documentation collected during the religious rituals of the Pandalungan community. The conclusion of this study is the existence of the Pandalungan custom by reason of the religious values ​​contained in it. These values ​​are in line with the values ​​of humanity and Pancasila as Indonesian citizens who believe in the one and only God. Furthermore, ajem pekang is not necessarily limited to a side dish served in the middle of a mound of rice on a mere tray, but inside it has semiotic value and meaning in the form of symbolization.

Abstract

This article aims to explain the concept of the division of scholars according to Imam Al-Ghazali in his phenomenal book Ihya' Ulumiddin, without exception, in theoretical and methodological aspects of preaching to these scholars. In the current era of technological progress, there is a crisis regarding the identity of the clergy. Especially for ordinary people, it becomes difficult in itself to determine scholars who deserve to be role models and role models. Not infrequently, with a good turban and a good one, there are some people who claim to be a cleric, but do not have the slightest capacity as a cleric, both intellectually and morally. Fame and followers have been obtained but not balanced with adequate knowledge will eventually lead the people to the brink of astray. By using the research literature method, especially from the books of Imam Al-Ghazali, it is hoped that this paper can answer the concerns above and be able to identify the Islamic scholars and self-reflection from bad and world-oriented scholars.

Abstract

Abstract Humanist preaching is a way of preaching that aims to inspire people to behave more humanely. Meanwhile, tariqah is a guide to practicing worship in accordance with the teachings of the Prophet followed by the companions, tabi'i, and tabi'it tabi'in. Sheikh Ahmad At-Tijany in his teaching of tarbiyah ruhiah (spiritual education) considers tarekat as a means to achieve a position as the heir of the prophets and become insanul kamilah. The purpose of this study is to analyze the process of preaching through the activities of the Tijaniyah tarekat, which is believed to have strategic value in improving the quality of Muslims. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method, by collecting data through observation, interviews, and documentation, which are then analyzed. The results showed that da'wah through tarekat is an effective approach. Da'wah through tariqah focuses more on individuals, where members of the tariqah are given attention and da'wah material that suits their needs and desires. This is evident from the changes in the attitudes and morals of the congregation who are more obedient to the teachings of Islam, including in social aspects and time management according to the teachings of Sheikh Ahmad At-Tijani, such as practicing wirid, performing worship on time, interacting well, and emphasizing akhlakul karimah and reading the Al-Quran. Abstrak Dakwah humanis adalah salah satu cara berdakwah yang bertujuan untuk menginspirasi manusia agar berperilaku lebih manusiawi. Sementara itu, tarekat merupakan suatu panduan untuk menjalankan ibadah sesuai dengan ajaran Rasulullah saw yang diikuti oleh para sahabat, tabi'i, dan tabi'it tabi'in. Syekh Ahmad At-Tijany dalam pengajarannya tentang tarbiyah ruhiah (pendidikan ruhani) menganggap tarekat sebagai sarana untuk mencapai posisi sebagai pewaris para nabi dan menjadi insanul kamilah. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis proses berdakwah melalui kegiatan tarekat Tijaniyah, yang diyakini memiliki nilai strategis dalam meningkatkan kualitas umat Islam. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif, dengan mengumpulkan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi, yang kemudian dianalisis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dakwah melalui tarekat merupakan pendekatan yang efektif. Berdakwah melalui tarekat lebih berfokus pada individu, di mana anggota tarekat diberikan perhatian dan materi dakwah yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan dan keinginan mereka. Hal ini terbukti dari perubahan sikap dan akhlak jama'ah yang lebih taat terhadap ajaran Islam, termasuk dalam aspek sosial dan pengaturan waktu sesuai ajaran Syekh Ahmad At-Tijani, seperti mengamalkan wirid, menjalankan ibadah tepat waktu, berinteraksi dengan baik, serta menekankan pada akhlakul karimah dan membaca Al-Quran.
