Abstract

Cocoa leaves (Theobroma cacao L.) contain active compounds that have many health benefits. Flavonoids are one of the active compounds contained therein that can prevent the formation of free radicals and reduce tissue damage due to inflammation. This study aims to determine the flavonoid content of ethanol extract of cacao leaves (Theobroma cacao L.) based on the comparison of growing regions using the UV-Vis spectophotometric method. Samples were taken from three regions namely Jeneponto, Wajo and Malino. This research method begins with the preparation of samples by maceration with 96% ethanol solvent, then qualitative analysis is carried out by Thin Layer Chromatography (KLT) method and quantitative analysis is carried out measuring quercetin standards and determining flavonoid levels with a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a maximum wavelength of 430 nm. The results showed that the ethanol extract of cocoa leaves (Theobroma cacao L.) positively contained flavonoids and had flavonoid levels in the Jeneponto, Wajo, Malino regions of 45.812 mgQE/g extract; 41.556 mgQE/g extract, and; 38.343 mgQE/g extract, respectively. Where the ethanol extract of cocoa leaves (Theobroma cacao L.) from the Jeneponto region has higher flavonoid levels than the other two regions.

Abstract

Comparison of Phenolic Content of Rubber Kebo (Ficus elastica) Leaf Extract Results from Multilevel Extraction Using the UV-Vis Spectrophotometry Method (Supervised by Asriani Suhaenah and Masdiana Tahir). The kebo rubber plant (Ficus elastica) is used by Indonesian people as traditional medicine, namely medicine to lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, stroke, and reduce joint pain. Kebo rubber leaves (Ficus elastica) contain secondary metabolites such as saponins, polyphenols, flavonoids and tannins. This research aims to determine the comparison of phenolic compound levels of kebo rubber leaf extract (Ficus elastica) resulting from multilevel extraction using the UV-vis spectrophotometric method. The extraction process uses 3 different types of solvents, namely n-hexane (nonpolar), ethyl acetate (semipolar) and ethanol (polar) using a sonicator. Determination of phenolic content using the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method, with a maximum wavelength of 772 nm and using gallic acid as a comparison. The results showed that the levels were influenced by the solvent used in comparing the phenolic compound levels of kebo rubber leaf extract (Ficus elastica) with the multilevel extraction method, namely n-hexane extract 3,774 mgGAE/g, ethyl acetate extract 12,696 mgGAE/g, ethanol extract 74,396 mgGAE/g g.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the tannin content in the ethanol extract of kebo rubber leaves (Ficus elastica Roxb. ex Hornem). Rubber plants (Ficus elastica Roxb. ex Hornem) are plants that are widely used as traditional medicine, the leaves of this plant are used as medicine to treat diarrhea. , stops bleeding and treats hemorrhoids. Many of the benefits and properties of the kebo rubber plant (Ficus elastica Roxb. ex Hornem) cannot be separated from the compounds contained in it, such as phenolics, tannins, flavonoids and saponins. Simplicia was extracted using the maceration method with 96% concentration of ethanol solvent for 3x24 hours. Determination of tannin content using the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method, with a maximum wavelength of 772 nm, using gallic acid as a comparison. The research results showed that the total tannin content in the ethanol extract was an average of 31.708mgQE/g.

Abstract

NUR EVATIARA. Comparison of flavonoid levels of rubber plant leaf extract (Ficus elastica) resulting from multilevel extraction using the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method. Rubber plant (Ficus elastica) is a plant in the Moraceae family whose leaves have been empirically stated to contain secondary metabolite compounds such as saponins, polyphenols, flavonoids and tannins which have been used as medicine for coughing up blood, improving urine flow, relieving pain and improving blood circulation. The aim of this research was to determine the comparison of levels of flavonoid compounds in rubber plant leaf extract (Ficus elastica) resulting from multilevel extraction using the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method. The multistage extraction process uses 3 different types of solvents, namely n-hexane (nonpolar), ethyl acetate (semipolar), and ethanol (polar) using a sonicator. Determination of flavonoid levels using the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method, with a maximum wavelength of 432 nm and quarcetin as a comparison. The research results were influenced by the solvent used in comparing the levels of flavonoid compounds, namely rubber plant leaf extract (Ficus elastica) with a multilevel extraction method, namely N-hexane extract 7.161 mgQE/g, Ethyl acetate extract 7.663 mgQE/g, 96% Ethanol extract 10.592 mgQE/g g.

Abstract

Kebo rubber (Ficus elastica) is one type of plant in Indonesia as a medicine to lower blood pressure, reduce cholesterol, stroke and reduce joint pain. In addition, Kebo rubber (Ficus elastica) leaves are one of the ficus species that are thought to be rich in polyphenolic compounds so that they can act as antioxidants. Antioxidants are compounds that can be used to counteract free radicals. Food fiber and antioxidants are two types of components that are very beneficial in improving health and being able to prevent various diseases. This study aims to analyze the antioxidant activity of rubber kebo (Ficus elastica) leaf extract using the DPPH method. The maceration process uses 3 different types of solvent, namely n-hexane (non-polae), ethyl acetate was measured at 510 nm wavelength with quercetin as the standard comparator. The measurement result for n-hexan extract obtained IC50 of 531,90 µg/mL, ethyl acetat obtained IC50 of 188,06 µg/mL, and for ethanol extract obtained IC50 of 874,73 µg/mL.

Abstract

Antioxidants are compounds that can counteract free radicals in the body, reduce oxidation in cells and cell damage. The purpose of this study was to determine the antioxidant activity of ethanol extract of bitti leaves (Vitex cofassus Reinw. Ex. Blume with DPPH (2,2- diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) scavenging method. The absorbance was measured by UV-Vis spectrophotometer at 510 nm wavelength. The results showed the presence of antioxidant activity with IC50 value of 56.59 μg/mL with strong antioxidant activity category, while quercetin as a comparator has very strong antioxidant activity with IC50 value of 5.93 μg/mL.

Abstract

Antioxidant Activity Of Ethanol Extract Of Lerak eaves (Sapindus rarak) Using The DPPH Free Radical Reduction Method (Supervised by Asriani Suhaenah dan St. Maryam) Lerak leaves (Sapindus rarak) are a traditional plant used by the community to treat various diseases. The secondary metabolic compounds contained in the lerak plant (Sapindus rarak) which have potential as antioxidants are flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, quinones, steroids and triterpenoids which are obtained through extraction using ethanol solvent. This research aims to determine the antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of lerak leaves (Sapindus rarak) using the DPPH free radical reduction method (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrihydrazyl). The antioxidant value was measured using UV-Vis spectrophotometry at a wavelength of 516 nm. The calculation results show an IC50 value of 876,592 μg/mL (very weak category) while quercetin as a comparison has very strong antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 1,882 μg/mL.

Abstract

Cocoa leaves (Theobroma cacao L.) contain secondary metabolite compounds, namely flavonoids, saponins, tannins, theobromine, caffeine, anthocyanins, leucoanthocyanins and catechol. This research aims to determine the levels of tannin compounds contained in tea preparations from the leaves of the cocoa plant (Theobroma cacao L.) based on a comparison of growing places, namely Wajo, Jeneponto and Malino. The research was carried out qualitatively using wet reagents and quantitatively using the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method. Based on the qualitative test results, FeCl3 1% reagent produces a green solution blackish, the gelatin test produces precipitation, while the potassium ferricyanide and ammonia reagent produces a dark brown color, these results indicate that cocoa leaves contain tannin compounds, for the quantitative test it is measured using UVVis spectrophotometry at a maximum wavelength of 772 nm with a reference, namely gallic acid. . The results obtained for the Wajo area were 1,618mgGAE/g, Jeneponto 2,334mgGAE/g, and Malino 1,030mgGAE/g, based on these data it can be concluded that cocoa leaves contain tannin compounds and the highest levels are in the Jeneponto area.

Abstract

Akar bajakah kalalawit merah (Uncaria gambir Roxb) merupakan salah satu tanaman yang dikenal memiliki kandungan alkaloid, fenol, dan triterpenoid yang digunakan untuk mengobati kanker, tumor, luka, penuaan dini, diabetes, dan antioksidan. Antioksidan adalah suatu senyawa yang memiliki struktur molekul yang dapat memberikan elektron untuk molekul radikal bebas yang tidak stabil tanpa terganggu sama sekali sehingga dapat memutuskan reaksi berantai radikal bebas. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak etanol akar bajakah kalalawit merah (Uncaria gambir Roxb) menggunakan metode FRAP, berdasarkan kemampuan sampel mereduksi ion Fe3+ menjadi Fe2+. Hasil pengujian kualitatif menunjukkan bahwa akar bajakah kalalawit merah (Uncaria gambir Roxb) mengandung senyawa alkaloid, flavonoid, fenolik,dan tannin. Hasil pengujian kuantitatif diperoleh nilai rata-rata aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak etanol akar bajakah kalalawit merah (Uncaria gambir Roxb) yaitu sebesar 193,403 mg QE/g ekstrak.

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic disease in which blood pressure in the arteries increases. Hypertension is a health problem that has a risk of causing other diseases such as coronary heart disease, kidney failure, nerve dysfunction and stroke. Plants such as purslane (Portulaca oleracea L.) are one of the plants that have benefits in treating disease. The purpose of the review article is to determine the potential of Portulaca oleracea L. as an anti-hypertensive. This research is a Review Journal. The subject of this review is national and international articles indexed nationally and internationally in the last 10 years which discuss the antihypertensive ability of Portulaca oleracea L. by classifying them based on the type of study and test model used in-vivo, the potential of the plant in lowering blood pressure, mechanism of action in treating hypertension, and specific chemical constituents responsible for anti-hypertensive activity. Based on the results of studies conducted on several journal articles, it can be concluded that Portulaca oleracea L. : 1. exhibits promising antihypertensive properties through various mechanisms, including vasodilation, reduction of heart rate, and improvement of endothelial function; 2. Clinical trials and comparative studies indicate that it can significantly reduce systolic blood pressure, making it a potential natural adjunct in managing hypertension; 3. exhibits multiple mechanisms that can help manage hypertension, primarily through its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and lipid-regulating properties, 4. contains several bioactive compounds that contribute to its antihypertensive effects such as Asperglaucide (ASP), Oleracein E and Oleracein L, Omega-3 Fatty Acids, Quercetin, and Rutin.
