Abstract

Purslane herb (Portulaca oleracea L.) is one of the plants that is considered as a valuable plant in the pharmaceutical world for the future because of its antioxidant content and high nutritional value. Endophytic fungi can produce secondary metabolites that have activities similar to those produced by their host plants, where these metabolites have medicinal potential. In previous studies, it was found that the ethyl acetate extract of endophytic fungi had antidiabetic activity in the α-glucosidase enzyme inhibition test. This research aims todetermine the antioxidant activity of the ethyl acetate extract of the endophytic fungus of purslane herb (Portulaca oleracea L.) using the Test method1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH). Purslane herbaceous endophytic fungus isolate (Portulaca oleracea L.) code FEK purified for 3 days. Then, fermented using MYB medium for 21 days. After that, extracted to become a thick extract. Furthermore, the DPPH test was carried out using a vitamin C comparison solution. Based on the IC50 value of the ethyl acetate extract of the endophytic fungus of purslane herb code FEK, it was found to be 64.26 μg/mL which is a relatively strong antioxidant activity

Abstract

Free radicals are a form of reactive oxygen compounds, compounds that have unpaired electrons. Free radicals are independent atoms, molecules or compounds that have unpaired electrons, and therefore are highly reactive and unstable. Antioxidants are compounds that can slow down the oxidation process of free radicals. Ficus is a species that is rich in polyphenolic compounds, such as flavonoids which are strong antioxidants which can help in the prevention and treatment of various diseases caused by oxidative stress. The purpose of this study was to determine the value of antioxidant activity in the ethyl acetate fraction of kebo rubber leaves (Ficus elastica) using the DPPH (2,2-Diphenyl-1-Picrylhydrazil) free radical scavenging method based on the IC50 value. Based on the research results, it was found that the ethyl acetate fraction of kebo rubber leaves (Ficus elastica) contained flavonoids, phenolics, tannins and saponins and had antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 70.74 µg/mL and included in the strong category

Abstract

Introduction: The discovery of endophytic microbes, which are microorganisms that reside within plant tissues and can produce bioactive compounds with similar properties to their host plants, is one possible solution to this issue. Endophytic fungi are capable of manufacturing antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anticancer, antimalarial, and antidiabetic agents. Portulaca oleracea L. is a weed that has spread globally. Portulaca oleracea L.has been utilized as a nutritious and medicinal plant for countless centuries. Aims: This study seeks to assess the antidiabetic potential of the endophytic fungi Portulaca oleracea L. Methods: In this study, isolation, macroscopic testing, fermentation, and antidiabetic activity testing were conducted using the alpha-glucosidase method. Twelve isolates with macroscopically distinct characteristics were obtained from of isolating the endophytic fungi. The procedure then advances to the fermentation and ethyl acetate extraction phases. Result: The results showed that there was inhibition of the α-glucosidase enzyme in hydrolyzing substrates into glucose by secondary metabolite extracts of fungi associated with the plant Portulaca oleracea L. with the highest percentage inhibition on the lab scale in the 12th isolate (83.92%). Conclusion: This measurement gives good results as an α-glucosidase inhibitor, so its potential as a source of antidiabetic drug substances is very high.

Abstract

Uric acid herbs are an alternative that is still widely used by the community as an anti-inflammatory and pain reliever. The increasing public interest in returning to traditional medicine has prompted several manufacturers to add medicinal chemicals to their preparations to produce a faster and maximum therapeutic effect, one of which is diclofenac sodium. The study aimed to analyze the chemical ingredients of the uric acid herbs circulating in Timika City and to find out the level of diclofenac sodium contained therein. The method used is High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with reverse phase, where the mobile phase is methanol: aquabidestilata (80:20) and the stationary phase is column C-18. Based on the test results, nine uric acid herbs showed positive results with retention times at the same value as diclofenac sodium. The content of diclofenac sodium obtained were code A herb of 4.135 mg/L, B herb : 36.300 mg/L, C herb : 18.530 mg/L, herb D : 473.219 mg/L, herb E : 40.991 mg/L, herb F : 77.165 mg/L L, herb G : 93.109 mg/L, herb H : 52.700 mg/L, and herb I : 297.123 mg/L. All herb samples tested were unfit for public use because they contained the chemical drug sodium diclofenac

Abstract

Formalin (Formaldehyde) is a chemical compound whose use is prohibited as a preservative in food additives. This study aims to analyze the content of formalin (Formaldehyde) in raw tofu circulating in Sidenreng Rappang district. The test method used was by qualitative analysis using Schiff reagent and KMnO4. The quantitative analysis using the UV-Vis spectrophotometry method. The test results used Schiff reagent and KMnO4, the four tofu samples contained formalin. Test results on the UV-Vis Spectrophotometry method at a wavelength of 555 nm, obtained formalin levels in sample with sample code A = 1.130%, sample code B = 1.826%, sample code C = 1.84%. It can be concluded that in the formaldehyde qualitative analysis test on raw tofu, the three samples positively contained formaldehyde. As well as the results of the measurement of the three positive samples containing formaldehyde using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer.

Abstract

Hydroquinone is an active compound that is able to control pigment production to inhibit melanin formation and has activity as a skin whitening agent, so hydroquinone is widely used in cosmetic products. Hydroquinone has adverse side effects if used for a long time. BPOM RI has issued a regulation on the prohibition on the use of hydroquinone as a bleach in cosmetics. The purpose of this study was to identify the hydroquinone content in whitening handbody samples circulating in Makassar City and to find out the level of hydroquinone contained in the sample. Qualitative analysis is carried out using FeCl₃ reagents and quantitative analysis using the UV-VIS spectrophotometry method. The number of samples used in this study was as many as 4 samples that did not have a registration number from BPOM RI. The results showed that the 4 samples studied positively contained hydroquinone. The results of the sample test measured at a maximum wavelength of 292 nm, obtained hydroquinone levels at the sample code HB1 = 1.267%; sample code HB2 = 0.912%; sample code HB3 = 0.379% and sample code HB4 = 0.449%.

Abstract

Seaweed (Eucheuma cottonii Doty) has potential as an antioxidant because it contains kappa-carrageenan which can counteract free radicals. Formulation of seaweed (Eucheuma cottonii Doty) into lotion preparations can minimize the negative effects of sun exposure, because it can reflect solar radiation or work as a physical sunscreen. To give the maximum effect, particle size reduction is carried out, so that the smaller the particle size of the seaweed powder, the surface area increases. This study aims to determine the formulation and evaluate the preparation of lotion from seaweed powder. This research was conducted using an experimental method. The lotion was made with three variations of seaweed powder concentration (Eucheuma cottonii Doty), namely 2.5%, 3% and 5%. Tests were carried out before and after accelerated conditions at 5oC and 35oC for 12 hours each for 12 cycles with test parameters including organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, viscosity and flow type. The results obtained in the organoleptic test showed no change in the three formulas both before and after the accelerated condition. The pH test showed that Formula 2 and Formula 3 still showed that the preparation remained in the skin pH range for sunscreen. In the homogeneity test, all preparations were homogeneous, as well as the spreadability test met the test requirements criteria. Based on the tests carried out, it can be concluded that formulas 2 and 3 have optimum stability.
