Abstract

University libraries play a vital role in supporting the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, which encompasses education, research, and community service. The advancement of digital technology has transformed library users’ behavior in accessing and utilizing information, particularly through the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This study aims to describe user behavior in the process of literacy transformation mediated by AI at the Reading Room of the Postgraduate School, Universitas Airlangga. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach with data collected through interviews and observations involving five informants, consisting of master’s and doctoral students. The findings indicate that the integration of AI enhances efficiency, effectiveness, and accuracy in information retrieval. Library users utilize AI not only as a technical tool but also as an analytical aid to develop comprehension and digital literacy skills. However, challenges remain, such as overreliance on AI systems and limited ability to evaluate the validity of information. The study concludes that strengthening AI literacy among the academic community is crucial to ensure that technology is used critically, ethically, and productively to support academic activities

Abstract

Background of the study: One of the important roles of libraries is to build a knowledge-based society ecosystem by making libraries an open interaction space through a library transformation strategy based on social inclusion. Purpose: The study was designed to investigate the issues associated with retooling and re-skilling cataloguing librarians in the digital era. Method: The design used is a qualitative analysis based on a detailed case study of the impact of the Social Inclusion-Based Library Transformation Program on Community Welfare in West Sumatra, Indonesia. Findings: The core impact of the Social Inclusion-Based Library Transformation Program is summarized by five objectives: enhancing access to information (via digitalization/literacy), fostering community skills development (via targeted training), reducing unemployment rates (via job skills/entrepreneurship), promoting social participation (via community engagement), and improving the local economy (via business development/creative economy). Conclusion: Through the programs implemented, libraries can strengthen their role as public libraries in improving the quality of human resources, so that community literacy skills increase, enabling them to play a more active role in sustainable development and achieving the goals set out in the SDGs.

Abstract

Speech delay is a developmental issue that frequently occurs in early childhood and affects communication, social skills, and academic readiness. This phenomenon is also found in Kanagarian Persiapan Koto Tangah Lamo, Agam Regency, where high gadget use and low family language stimulation are contributing factors. The “Optimizing Children’s Language Development” program was implemented as a community service initiative using a participatory approach through psychoeducation, interactive reading training, a family reading corner, a Storytelling Day, and evaluation activities. The results showed high enthusiasm from parents, increased understanding of speech delay, and greater awareness of the importance of interactive reading as a form of language stimulation. Parents expressed their hope that similar activities could be carried out continuously. Thus, interactive reading can serve as an effective strategy to prevent and address speech delay while also strengthening the culture of family literacy.
