Vocabulary is the heart of a language because it involves the basic building of English sentences. Without a meaningful vocabulary, the four basic skills of language namely speaking, listening, reading, and writing would never be complete. As vocabulary is the principal issue for English learning, this current research was conducted to see the effectiveness of the Board Race Game to improve the students’ mastery of vocabulary. The research was conducted in Tsanawiyah Babul Khaer, Bulukumba. There were 30 students of the second grade in the academic year 2018/2019 who participated in this study which was selected through purposive sampling. In collecting the data, the researchers used the pre and post design of the experimental group. The researchers analyzed the average score of each test to find out the increase in students’ vocabulary mastery after the action was conducted. After the researchers have treated the game in four meetings, the students’ vocabulary mastery has increased significantly. It could be seen from the score of pre-test was 30,46 and the posttest was 78,2 where the gain of both tests was 47,73. After applying the action, the researchers were able to solve the problem in increasing students’ vocabulary mastery. Thus, because of this kinesthetic game was successfully to create a fun atmosphere in the teaching and learning process and increase the students’ mastery of vocabulary, it is suggested to use board race game as the alternative media in teaching English.

Abstract

Behind the problems faced in the implementation of teaching English in schools, on the contrary, learning activities in Kampung Inggris Pare are reported as having exciting and enjoyable in terms of topics and exercises they do in the classroom. The teaching methods are varied, broad, and challenging. The variation of the topics avoids boredom in the learning. Therefore, this study investigated the teaching methods conducted in this immersive environment. This qualitative study was conducted in Peace, Kampung Inggris Pare, Kediri, East Java, Indonesia. Six participants participated in this study. The data were collected through observations, interviews, documents, and visual photos. The data shows that, in teaching speaking, tutors in English Village Pare utilize a variety of media and integrated language skills, for example, by using visual media in the form of images. Five phases will be trained to achieve communicative goals in language learning, namely: pay attention to the pictures to store the concept in mind, construct the ideas about the photos (perception), regulate the way to express the ideas (mind mapping), speak up (describing the picture or anything to talk), communicative comprehension (speaking and listening session as a speaker or listener), and after review and practice the phases or activities many times, the students finally will reach the speaking fluency (ignoring filler and stuck), respect to the time, and communicative skills. This method can lead students to become successful language learners

Abstract

English is the unifying international language of world communication. However, English-speaking countries face many problems in their position as a foreign language, so learning strategies and motivation must be emphasized in the learning process. On the other side, communication skills are the most needed skills to prepare for the world of work. Thus, this research with a qualitative method approach is focused on investigating the effectiveness of teaching and training on "Neurocognitive" based learning strategies, with continuous mentoring and injection of motivation. The instruments used are field note observations, questionnaires, interviews, and photo documentation. The subjects of this study were 14 students in the second semester of the 2020/2021 academic year of the Information Systems study program at STMIK Bina Adinata. The results showed that the students' cognitive and non-cognitive skills were improved, especially their speaking performance. However, even though the research team carried out the procedure for providing learning strategy training under the correct stages, the results obtained were less than optimal due to online learning conditions. So it is recommended for further researchers to continue this research by thinking about learning strategies that can be combined for offline and online needs.

Abstract

This research focuses on the development and evaluation of the English for Cultural Voices coursebook, designed to integrate Indonesian folktales into English language teaching for secondary school students under Kurikulum Merdeka. The study explores how culturally contextualized materials can enhance language acquisition, promote cultural understanding, and foster autonomous learning. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the coursebook by gathering feedback from Indonesian English teachers regarding its content, structure, and applicability in real classroom settings. A qualitative research design using a case study approach was employed, with participants drawn from the Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) community in Bangka Barat, Pangkal Pinang. Data were collected through document analysis, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and questionnaires. The document analysis focused on assessing the coursebook’s cultural relevance, structure, and content. FGDs provided in-depth insights into teachers' perceptions of the coursebook's impact on student engagement and language development, while questionnaires offered quantitative data on its effectiveness. The data were analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldana’s framework for data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The study found that the coursebook significantly enhanced student engagement, improved speaking and vocabulary skills, and supported autonomous learning. However, challenges such as the complexity of narrative structures and limited access to technology were identified. This research contributes to the field of curriculum development by offering practical insights into the integration of cultural content and digital tools in language teaching
