Abstract

Environmental sanitation plays an important role in preventing environmental-based diseases such as diarrhea, which has increased significantly in Surabaya from 57.23% (2021), 76.7% (2022), to 92.9% (2023). One solution is the implementation of the program.Community Based Total Sanitation.(STBM) which consists of five pillars: Stop Defecating.Open Defecation, Washing Hands with Soap, Water Management.Household Food and Beverage,.Household Waste Security, and Security.Household Liquid Waste. This study aims to describe the implementation of STBM in Kedurus Village, Karang Pilang District, Surabaya. The study used a quantitative descriptive method with a survey approach on 5,854 heads of families. The results showed that 79.3% of families already had safe toilets, 98% implemented CTPS, and 99.8% managed drinking water and food properly. However, 7.4% of families had not sorted waste, and 35.6% had not managed liquid waste properly. These findings indicate that although the implementation of STBM was quite successful, improvements are still needed in waste and liquid waste management. The active involvement of the government and community as well as the role of STBM cadres need to be increased to support the sustainability of this program.

Abstract

Indonesia has great potential to produce Nickel Oxide due to the abundance of Ni resources that can be used for the manufacture of SOFC anode components. Ni-YSZ which is a mixture of metal and ceramic is widely used SOFC anodes. Ni was selected because it exhibits high electrical conductivity and serves as an internal reforming catalyst. In this study, the characterization and manufacturing of Ni-YSZ-based half cells using domestic NiO were conducted. The stages of half cell fabrication begin with the mixing of solid and liquid materials and, the process of milling, sonication, degassing, tape casting, and sintering. The manufacture of half cells was carried out by adding an anti-foam concentration with a variation of 0.4; 0,6; and 0.8%. The optimal percentage composition was 0.4% anti-foam variation with a visual appearance that was not cracked, slightly curved and posed a pore size of 0.779 μm. The results of the domestic NiO characterization of imported NiO showed greater element percentage values and viscosity values, a slightly curved half cell visual appearance, good electrolyte density, and porosity values that were not in accordance with the range.

Abstract

Indonesia has significant maritime potential, particularly in salt production. However, national salt production has not yet met domestic demand, especially for industrial-grade salt, which requires a minimum NaCl content of 97%. Crude salt produced using traditional methods often contains only 88-94% NaCl and includes impurities such as Ca, Mg, and sulfate. This research aims to produce recrystallized salt that meets industrial standards and to determine the optimal conditions in a laboratory-scale simulator. The experimental method was conducted by simulating evaporation on a recrystallization table. Salt solutions were prepared from crude salt with varied concentrations of 22%, 25%, and 30%. The observed parameters included solution density, evaporation rate, and the content of NaCl, total hardness, and sulfate in the salt product. The results showed that recrystallization significantly increased the NaCl content and reduced impurities. Optimal conditions were achieved with a 22% salt solution, where crystal formation produced recrystallized salt with an NaCl content of 99.33%, total hardness of 0.47%, and sulfate content of 8.56 ppm. This quality has the potential to meet industrial salt standards. This study can serve as a reference for industrial salt production on a larger scale.

Abstract

Permasalahan sampah meningkat di masa pandemic, akibat melonjaknya sampah domestik selama work from home (WfH) dan aktivitas belanja online sebesar 27%-35%, walaupun dapat menggerakkan perekonomian, tetapi sampah kemasan menumpuk. Desa Sukamenak RW 09, memiliki permasalahan sampah dan belum mempunyai sistem pengolahan sampah mandiri. Polban sebagai instansi perguruan tinggi, membantu menyelesaikan permasalahan sampah di wilayah ini, melalui Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM) dengan program antara lain : edukasi, pelatihan, Bimtek, pendampingan, fasilitasi, dan evaluasi. Kegiatan meliputi sosialisasi pemilahan sampah dengan konsep 3R (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle), pelatihan pengolahan sampah anorganik menjadi produk daur ulang, pelatihan sampah organic menjadi pupuk, pelatihan pembuatan paving blok, dan pembentukan bank sampah. Kegiatan dimulai dengan identifikasi kemampuan awal masyarakat melalui kuesioner, hasil menunjukkan, sekitar 70% masyarakat mempunyai pengetahuan yang baik tentang sampah, namun sikap dan tindakan penanganan sampah sekitar 20%. Salah satu penyebabnya, belum pernah dilakukan sosialisasi pemanfaatan sampah. Pelatihan sampah anorganik terfokus kresek / plastic ( sampah dominan) yang disetrika sehingga menjadi bahan lain yang lebih tebal untuk dijadikan tas, dompet, sandal, bunga, dan lain sebagainya dan bernilai ekonomi. Pupuk dari sampah organic, dimanfaatkan sebagai media tanam untuk tanaman sayuran atau dapat dijual dalam skala besar dengan kemasan menarik. Bank sampah “RW 09 Berseri” diharapkan dapat meminimalisir volume sampah yang masuk TPA, tabungannya dapat diambil. Diharapkan setiap keluarga melakukan pemilahan sampah sejak dari rumah, sebagian sampah anorganik dijadikan produk daur ulang, sebagian lagi ditabung, dan sisanya dibuang. Pemanfatan sampah plastik dalam skala besar adalah pembuatan paving blok, yang mempunyai kualitas lebih kuat, ringan, dan tahan bantingan. Kata Kunci: Sampah Organik, Sampah Anorganik, Bank Sampah, 3R (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle)
