Abstract

This study aims to analyze the stages of creative thinking of students with choleric personality types in solving Algebra problems. This type of research is qualitative research. Students with choleric personality types are given Algebra questions followed by interviews to explore information in students' creative thinking processes. The results obtained are students capable to form a mathematical model of the information contained in the problem using the Algebra symbol at the preparation stage. Students are capable to find more than one settlement idea by utilizing the equations formed in the problem and require a short time to understand the problem at the incubation stage. Students are capable to write the completion steps containing Algebra operations systematically at the illumination stage. Students are capable to recheck the answers generated by substitute the value of the variable sought into an equation well at the illumination stage. The conclusion of this study is that choleric students are capable to fulfill all the indicators at the Wallas creative thinking stage. This can be seen from the results of the Algebra test given and the results of the interviews that have been conducted.

Abstract

Abstract. Algebraic thinking is a process of solving mathematical problems in which uses letters (variables) and perform deeper activity such as problem identifications, represent information symbolically, make mathematic model, as well as interpret and applying mathematic findings. This research was conducted to describe how algebraic thinking process of Junior High School student based on gender and math ability. The subject of research was divided into two of student with high math ability, two student with mid math ability and two student with low math ability in mathematical problem solving of linier equation system of two variable for C5 and C6 problems category where in each category consist of boy and girl. The result shows for C5 and C6 problems, student with high and mid math ability both boys and girls were capable of algebraic thinking in every steps of problem solving. Student with low math ability, the boy was capable of algebraic thinking in every steps of problem solving for C5 and C6 problems. Whereas the girl capable of algebraic thinking in every steps, but for C6 problem category, the girl was only able to perform two algebraic thinking activity in problem solving. Abstract

Abstract This research raises the problem of students' problem solving abilities in solving arithmetic sequence and series problems based on the theory of APOS (Action, Process, Object, Schema) in terms of the type of Florence littauer personality. Data collection was obtained from personality type questionnaires, problem solving tests, and interviews. The subject of the study came from 4 students of class XI TKJ 1 of SMK Negeri 2 jember using the snowball sampling method to classify 4 personality types which include sanguinis, koleris, melancholy, and phlegmatic. The results of the analysis of problem solving ability tests and interviews showed that at the stage of action, sanguinis (SS) students could explain smoothly and complete the lack of data on the answer sheet. Koleris students (SK), explained fluently and consistently, melancholy students (SM) could explain correctly even though in answering questions they were still hesitant. Phlegmatic students (SP) are fluent and assertive when explaining the information in the question again. At the process stage, students of SS, SK, SM, and SK managed to find a number pattern and could determine the formula to solve the problem. At the object stage, the four subjects managed to answer correctly even though they used different problem solving processes. At the scheme stage, SS students, SK, SP managed to give the final answer correctly and tried to check the answer again, while the SM students had not managed to answer correctly. Abstract

Ethnomatematics is a science that connects mathematics with culture in society. The purpose of this research was to describe the results of ethnomatematic exploration of post-harvest activities of tobacco farmers in the Pendalungan community and to make their products in the form of student worksheets. This type of research is qualitative with an ethnographic approach. Data collection methods used are observation and interviews. Ethnomatematics in tobacco post-harvest activities in the form of counting, measuring and designing activities. In the process of nyujen (submission) of tobacco leaves arises the mathematical concept of comparable values and measurements when determining the length of the rope, determining the length of the bamboo, and determining the distance between leaves. In the process of making patterns of drying tobacco leaves, the concept of design and concept of comparable value emerged. In the fermentation process, tobacco leaves were observed in the concept of calculating when determining the length of fermentation time, and in the process of sorting tobacco leaves it was observed the concept of the ratio of turning value when determining the number of leaves per class in 1 kg. The results of the study are product teaching materials in the form of student worksheets. Student worksheets are intended for seventh grade Middle School / MTs students. This student worksheet is divided into 5 activities in the scientific approach. Keywords: Ethnomatematics, Pendalungan, Tobaccoes post-harvest

Abstract

This research aimed to develop a valid, practical, and effective worksheets with SAVI approach and can improve students' mathematical representation skills on cylinder material. The method of this research was a Research and Development (R and D) through the development of 4-D (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Pace. The subjects of this research was 32 students of class IX. The results of the validation of the LKS with SAVI approach by the validator get an assessment of 3.8 after experiencing product revision. This shows that the LKS with SAVI approach that was developed is declared valid. The results of the analysis of the practicality of the LKS with SAVI approach were declared practical with the percentage of student response questionnaires of 85.03% and from the teacher's observation sheet of 87.5%. LKS with SAVI approach succeeded in increasing students' representation ability with a percentage increase of 90.625%. The result of the percentage of product completeness is 71.875% so it can be said that the LKS product with SAVI approach is an effective product. These results indicate that worksheets with SAVI approach are considered valid, practical, effective, and can improve mathematical representation skills.

Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to describe the profile of generalization thinking, simplifying problems, and analytic thinking of mathematical olympiad students in solving algebraic problems. The research subjects were 4 mathematical olympiad students at SMPN 2 Jember. Tests and interviews are used to collect data. Based on the analysis of the data, the results of the study show that the mathematical olympiad students can solve the given problems using non-procedural methods. They prefer to use a more effective and efficient way. In process of simplifying problems, the students can represent problems into mathematical models using algebraic forms. In making mathematical models, the students use variables as a form of example. In this study, there are still students who use symbols as variables that showing those students are still at the stage of iconic thinking according to J.Bruner's learning theory. In the analytical thinking process students are able to solve problems using the methods they obtain from the results of their analysis of the given problems. In the generalization thinking process students can find and apply existing rules or patterns to solve the given problem, even though there are still students who have not received the material. They are able to solve problems using reasonal and logical thinking. Keywords: Mathematical Olympiad, Generalization, Simplifying Problems, Analityc Thinking.
