Abstract

This study focuses on the identity and ideological orientation of two Islamic political parties, as well as their steps towards ideological moderation and specific electoral strategies within the political landscapes of two different countries. This is a library-based research that explores the identity of political Islam ideology in secular democracies, utilizing a combination of historical and political approaches. The sources include literature and writings about political Islam groups in Indonesia and Turkey, specifically PKS and AKP, derived from reputable books and scholarly articles. The study concludes that both PKS and AKP are moderate in ideology and politics. PKS, especially in post-New Order, transformed through moderation and inclusion, maintaining its Islamist identity while forming coalitions with nationalist parties for survival. Meanwhile, AKP combines moderate Islamism with conservative democracy, though Erdogan’s dominant leadership tends toward authoritarianism.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of social media has transformed Islamic norm production by shifting representations of Muslim family life from private domestic settings to digitally mediated public arenas. While existing studies on Muslim influencers largely emphasize piety performance and religious commodification, little attention has been paid to how Islamic marital ethics are renegotiated through everyday online representations. This qualitative netnographic study analyzes the Instagram accounts of Indonesian Muslim influencers Alfysaga and Fatmasarizar through the lens of mubādalah (reciprocity) to examine how gender roles are visually and narratively constructed. The findings reveal a participatory marital model grounded in shared domestic responsibilities, collaborative parenting, recognition of personal autonomy, and the affirmation of women’s emotional agency, subtly challenging hierarchical readings of qiwāmah. The article argues that Instagram operates as a site of digital sharia negotiation, where Islamic family norms are interactively interpreted and recalibrated. By integrating digital ethnography with Islamic legal-ethical analysis, this study contributed to Digital Sharia scholarship by demonstrating how mediated visibility reshapes contemporary Muslim marital authority.

Abstract

Abstract

This article analyzes the dynamics and challenges faced by Islamic civilization amid the dominance of Western modernity, which has now transformed into neoliberal globalization, digital capitalism, and epistemic hegemony. The study explores how Islamic civilization can reformulate its strategic role in constructing a modern Muslim society that is not only technologically advanced but also spiritually and ethically grounded. Employing a qualitative library-based method with a descriptive-analytical approach and a civilizational analytical framework, this research examines classical and contemporary literature on civilizational theory, modernization, the coloniality of knowledge, and Islamic reformism. The findings indicate that Western modernity does not merely generate scientific and institutional progress; it also promotes a secular-materialistic paradigm that tends to marginalize the dimension of transcendence from the public sphere. In this context, the crisis experienced by Muslim societies is not a theological crisis, but rather an epistemic one crisis and a crisis of civilizational confidence. Historically, Islamic civilization was built upon the integration of dzikr (spiritual consciousness) and fikr (intellectual rationality) as two fundamental pillars of societal advancement. Therefore, the revitalization of Islamic civilization in the global era requires the reconstruction of epistemology, educational reform, and the strengthening of a civilizational identity that engages modernity in a selective and critical manner.
