Abstract

The concept of electromagnetic induction is very important in understanding and developing modern electrical technology. Some factors cause students to often find it difficult to understand electromagnetic induction material in school is that this material involves abstract concepts such as magnetic flux, magnetic field changes, and emf. For some students, understanding these concepts may be difficult due to a lack of direct experience or concrete representations. Enrichment of physics material on electromagnetic induction has been implemented at SMA N 1 Gunung Talang. This service activity aims to improve students' understanding of the basic concepts of Electromagnetic Induction in Class XII. This service consists of three stages including: preparation, implementation and evaluation. The evaluation of this activity was carried out by comparing the pre-test results before enrichment and the post-test scores of students after being given enrichment material by the lecturer (service team). The results obtained show an increase in student knowledge towards understanding the concept of electromagnetic induction. This service activity can be an effort for school and university cooperation to support student success in understanding physics concepts that are considered complicated

Abstract

Nobita Hill, a tourist site in Padang City, is undergoing development as a tourist destination that offers a bird's-eye view of Padang City. Unfortunately, the hilly topography with steep slopes increases the risk of landslides in this area. In order to address the problem, the community service team from the Physics Department of Andalas University has carried out a six-month community service program from July to December 2022. It focused on disaster awareness education and used a qualitative approach. This activity aims to socialize disaster mitigation efforts, especially those related to landslides and earthquakes, considering that Padang City is also prone to earthquakes. The results of this activity showed an increase in the knowledge of the local community after the socialization, but repeated activities are needed to achieve optimal results. This ongoing activity is essential to ensure continuous improvement in the community's understanding of disaster mitigation and to support efforts to make Bukit Nobita a disaster-resilient area. Thus, this activity makes a positive contribution to shaping a safe, sustainable, and disaster-resilient tourism environment.

Abstract

Laboratorium merupakan salah satu sarana dan prasarana pembelajaran fisika di sekolah untuk menarik pembelajaran dan mendorong motivasi siswa dalam belajar fisika. Kegiatan yang dilaksanakan di laboratorium biasanya dalam bentuk praktikum atau demonstrasi. Laboratorium harus dikelola dan direncanakan dengan baik agar fungsinya optimal sebagai sarana pembelajaran fisika. Hasil observasi di beberapa SMA yang ada di Kabupaten Lima Puluh Kota ditemukan permasalahan bahwa laboratorium tidak dikelola dengan baik sehingga keberadaanya tidak efektif. Siswa jarang diajak praktikum di laboratorium. Alat-alat praktikum yang sudah diperoleh dari Dinas Pendidikan jarang digunakan untuk kegiatan praktikum, sehingga banyak alat yang sudah rusak karena jarang dipakai. Penataan alat dan fasilitas di laboratorium cukup memprihatinkan, tidak tertata dengan rapi dan tidak di inventaris dengan baik. Guru fisika kesulitan dalam mengadakan praktikum karena tidak adanya modul praktikum/buku petunjuk praktikum. Oleh karena itu kegiatan praktikum yang biasanya dilaksanakan di laboratorium kini dilaksanakan di ruang kelas dengan peralatan yang seadanya. Ini menyebabkan keberadaan laboratorium fisika tidak dimanfaatkan dengan baik. Atas dasar permasalahan-permasalahan tersebut, maka kami tim Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat mengadakan pembinaan pengelolaan laboratorium fisika bagi guru-guru MGMP fisika yang ada di Kabupaten Lima Puluh Kota agar para guru fisika mampu mengelola laboratorium dengan baik sehingga dapat digunakan untuk kegiatan praktikum maupun proses pembelajaran. Rencana kegiatan PKM antara lain 1) Memberikan sosialisasi pengelolaan laboratorium, 2) Melakukan pengembangan Laboratorium Percontohan Implementasi Merdeka Belajar, 3) Melakukan diskusi pembuatan alat-alat praktikum dari peralatan sederhana, 4) Melakukan diskusi pembuatan modul praktikum/ buku petunjuk praktikum, dan 5) Melakukan monitoring awal dan lanjutan terhadap laboratorium dibeberapa sekolah yang berada di Kebupaten Lima Puluh Kota.

Abstract

Materi Pemanasan Global merupakan salah satu bagian dari Mata Pelajaran Fisika di SMA. Materi Pemanasan Global ini merupakan ilmu yang penting dan harus di kuasai oleh siswa-siswi jurusan IPA. Kegiatan pengabdian adalah memberikan pengayaan materi pemanasan global pada siswa-siswi kelas X SMA N 2 Gunung Talang. Tujuan kegiatan ini memberikan tambahan ilmu terkait dengan materi pemanasan global dan efek rumah kaca. Metode yang dilakukan adalah persiapan pelaksanaan, pelaksanaan kegiatan, monitoring evaluasi, pembuatan laporan akhir dan pembuatan luaran pengabdian. Kegiatan ini merupakan bagian dari pengabdian Masyarakat mengenai pengayaan mata Pelajaran Fisika di SMA N 2 Gunung Talang yang dilaksanakan mulai dari bulan Oktober-Desember 2023. Dari hasil kegiatan ini dapat dilihat adanya peningkatan persentase penguasaan materi dari rata-rata 33,8% menjadi 68,4%.

Abstract

Food safety is a crucial aspect in meeting people's nutritional needs. Formalin, a dangerous preservative, is often used illegally to extend the shelf life of foodstuffs, posing serious risks to consumer health. This research develops a portable technology for rapid detection of formaldehyde in foodstuffs. The method utilizes the interaction between UV light and the concentration of formaldehyde in a sample treated with Schiff reagent, enabling the measurement of UV uptake proportional to formaldehyde concentration. The Schiff reagent reacts with formalin to produce a colored compound whose absorbance is measured to detect and quantify formalin in the sample. The designed optical system focuses on measuring the intensity of light from a UV LED source, which is then transmitted through the sample. The successfully transmitted light intensity is converted into an electrical signal by the GY-ML8511 sensor, which is then processed by the NodeMCU ESP8266 to display the concentration of formalin on the LCD screen. This research also analyzes the sensitivity and selectivity of the GY-ML8511 sensor to evaluate its performance and reliability in detecting formaldehyde, with the ultimate goal of improving food safety through innovative detection technologies, such as the use of biosensors and advanced spectroscopy. This technology contributes to existing solutions by enabling rapid and accurate detection at various stages of food production, thereby reducing the risk of contamination and improving compliance with food safety standards

Abstract

The design of hydrostatic pressure and water depth measuring instrument based on optical fiber sensor using intrinsic method has been carried out. The design of this hydrostatic pressure and water depth measuring instrument consists of fiber optic sensors which include a light source in the form of a 5V diode laser, FD-620-10 optical fiber as a light transmission medium and OPT101 photodetector. Arduino Uno R3 board as a data processor, and I2C LCD as a viewer of measurement results. Characterization of the fiber optic sensor is done by varying the bending based on the number of serrations that cause differences in output voltage on the fiber optic sensor. Optimal results were obtained when the serrations amounted to 5 with a sensitivity value of -0.0863 V/kPa. The maximum hydrostatic pressure that can be measured is at a water depth of 1.5 m. The measurement results of hydrostatic pressure and water depth obtained with the designed tool against the theory and comparison tool obtained a percentage error of 4.42% and 4.32%, respectively

Abstract

Efficient and accurate river water quality monitoring is needed to support laboratory testing based on on-site sampling. Therefore, we have developed a monitoring system for river flow and water quality using sensor-equipped buoys and the Internet of Things (IoT) concept. An ESP32 NodeMCU microcontroller integrated with WiFi and compatible with Arduino IDE is used in the system. The buoy is equipped with GPS to determine the position and flow speed and sensors to measure water quality parameters of pH and temperature. Data on position, flow velocity, and water quality parameters are transmitted over a WiFi network using the MQTT protocol. The data is recorded by the buoy and uploaded and displayed on the adafruit.io platform. Positioning was done by comparing the values displayed on the Neo-6M GPS with the Maps application on the smartphone. The results show that the GPS coordinate values are accurate. The water quality parameter values obtained have an error rate of 3.3% for the pH sensor and 1.02% for the temperature sensor. Thus, the system we have developed has the potential to be used as a substitute for field sampling-based river water quality monitoring systems.

Abstract

Solar cell is a device that converts light energy into electrical energy by an effective photovoltaic process. The electrical energy generated by solar cells depends on the intensity of the sun received. The maximum efficiency of solar cells is obtained if it is always perpendicular to the sun, so it is necessary to move the solar cell to follow the movement of the sun. An automatic solar tracker design has been made using fiber optic sensors in this study. The solar tracker design consists of a solar cell and a fiber optic sensor as a sunlight detector consisting of FD-620-10 step-index multimode optical fiber and OPT101 photodetector. The tool that has been made is tested by detecting the voltage, current strength, and power generated by the solar tracker. Solar trackers can produce an average electrical power of 73.79% more optimal than using static solar cells. Based on the results of research, the tool that has been designed can increase the electrical energy generated and store it in accumulators or batteries.

Abstract

Proses fermentasi tapai ketan sebagai salah satu makanan tradisional yang disukai oleh masyarakat Sumatra Barat membutuhkan waktu yang cukup lama yaitu selama +-72 jam. Fermentasi yang terlalu lama dapat menghasilkan tapai yang memiliki kandungan alkohol yang tinggi dan rasa asam yang kurang disukai masyarakat. Penelitian bertujuan untuk membuat sistem booster dan pendeteksi kadar alkohol pada fermentasi tapai ketan menggunakan sensor MQ-3 berbasis IoT. Sistem booster menggunakan elemen Peltier untuk mengontrol suhu ruang fermentasi tapai pada rentang 35°C sampai 40°C yang dideteksi oleh sensor DHT11. Peningkatan kadar gas alkohol selama proses fermentasi dideteksi oleh sensor MQ-3. Kadar gas alkohol 0,58% menjadi acuan bahwa tapai sudah matang. Hasil pengukuran suhu, kelembapan, dan kadar gas alkohol selama proses fermentasi ditampilkan pada LCD dan aplikasi Blynk berbasis IoT. Buzzer berbunyi pada saat tapai matang. Waktu fermentasi tapai ketan hitam lebih lama yaitu selama 39 jam, sedangkan tapai ketan putih selama 36 jam. Tapai ketan yang dihasilkan memiliki tekstur yang lunak, berair, dan memiliki rasa yang manis dengan kadar gas alkohol yang sama sebesar 0,58%.

Abstract

Balita merupakan usia yang peka terhadap pertumbuhan dan perkembangan atau disebut juga dengan usia emas. Pertumbuhan dan perkembangan Balita dapat diketahui dengan pemantauan secara berkala status gizi berdasarkan usia, berat badan, dan tinggi badan. Ketidakseimbangan tumbuhkembang pada usia Balita dapat mengakibatkan efek jangka pendek dan jangka panjang mulai dari penurunan sistem kekebalan tubuh, kerusakan otak hingga dapat mengidap penyakit degeneratif saat dewasa. Telah dirancang alat ukur tinggi badan, berat badan, dan penentuan status gizi pada Balita berbasis Mikrokontroller ESP32 WROOM 32 melalui Telegram. Sensor yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah Ultrasonik HC-Sr04 dengan ketelitian 97,47% untuk mengukur tinggi badan Balita dan Load cell 40 kg dengan ketelitian 99,61% untuk mengukur berat badannya. Berdasarkan data input identitas (Id), usia, dan jenis kelamin serta data yang diukur oleh sensor menghasilkan keluaran berupa status gizi. Alat ini dapat mengukur tinggi, berat badan, dan menentukan status gizi Balita usia 1-5 tahun. Alat ukur ini sudah dapat menentukan status gizi Balita berdasarkan Berat Badan menurut Umur (BB/U), Tinggi Badan menurut Umur (TB/U), dan Tinggi Badan menurut Berat Badan (TB/BB) yang tampil pada TFT LCD dan Telegram Bot.  Pengukuran ini dilakukan pada enam orang Balita. Hasil dari pengukuran ini semua Balita memiliki status gizi kategori BB/U dan TB/BB dengan status normal namun pada kategori TB/U lima Balita berstatus gizi normal namun satu diantaranya memiliki status gizi kategori TB/U dengan status pendek berdasarkan Grafik Pertumbuhan Anak (GPA).
