Abstract

New employees often face difficulties in adapting to their new work environment, leading to high turnover rates, especially in the banking sector. These difficulties are influenced by selfconcept and communication skills. This study examines the relationship between self-concept and communication skills with the adaptation ability of new employees in banking companies. The study uses a positivist paradigm and a quantitative approach, involving 100 respondents aged 21-45 years with a maximum working period of one year. A survey method with a questionnaire was used to measure the variables studied. The results of the correlation analysis showed a significant positive relationship between self-concept and adaptation ability, and between communication skills and adaptation ability. This relationship aligns with Henri Tajfel's social identity theory and Giles & Ogay's (2007) social accommodation theory. The results of the coefficient of determination test showed a significant positive relationship between self-concept and communication skills simultaneously with adaptation ability, consistent with what Schneiders stated in Ulfa et al. (2022). The results of this study indicate that new employees with a positive self-concept and good communication skills can adapt quickly and effectively in a strict and high-risk work environment. This shows that a good self-concept and communication skills greatly support the adaptation process of new employees in a new workplace.

Abstract

Media convergence is interpreted as the combination of various information and communication technology services, along with increasing digitalization making it possible for people to access various types of media content, making media organizations produce content that can be enjoyed across media. On the other hand, internet users continue to increase and people's attention to conventional media, especially radio, has decreased, which has caused the radio industry to begin to decline. A strategy is needed for radio to still be heard, namely by carrying out media convergence. This research aims to find out how the media convergence process strategy is carried out by Radio Republik Indonesia Semarang to maintain its existence in the digital era. The theory used in this research is Media Convergence Theory, while the method used is qualitative research using a case study approach, by conducting interviews and observations in the RRI Semarang environment who are involved and related to the process of implementing media convergence. The results of this research indicate that RRI Semarang views media convergence as quite important in its position as a Public Broadcasting Institution and reference media which needs to anticipate changes in information consumption patterns in society. This is done through various owned platforms such as RRI Digital, the RRI.co.id page, the RRI NET channel, social media for each program and news, as well as the YouTube channel. Planning is carried out in the broadcast and news sector, guided by the LPP RRI Broadcast Guidelines Book and the Reporting Style Book. The technical convergence strategy refers to understanding the direction of convergence, positioning as a media verifier, following the flow of convergence, strengthening the technical and multimedia sectors, adapting content, and building interactivity. The promotional strategy refers to the use of soft-selling through promotions on personal accounts and hard-selling through on-air and off-air promotions. This has implications for analytical and quality achievements, although it still has shortcomings.

Abstract

Introduction: The 2024 Indonesian presidential election will see significant Generation Z participation, yet unverified political information may affect their understanding. The documentary ‘Dirty Vote’ has the potential to enhance political knowledge and influence voting decisions, particularly regarding election fraud--a key concern for Generation Z voters who are active digitally but vulnerable to misinformation. Using the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM), this study examines how the documentary influences political knowledge, mediates voting decisions, and affects political engagement. The research evaluates whether ‘Dirty Vote’ can effectively enhance political understanding and shape voting choices among Generation Z. Methods: This explanatory quantitative study targets viewers of the ‘Dirty Vote’ documentary on social media. A sample of 384 participants was determined using the Lemeshow formula and non-probability purposive sampling. Data were collected via Google Forms and analyzed using Generalized Structured Component Analysis (GSCA). The ELM theory guided the analysis. Findings: The study found that ‘Dirty Vote’ significantly enhances political knowledge and influences voting decisions among Generation Z. Political knowledge acted as a mediator, strengthening the documentary's impact. The credibility of the documentary’s source also played a key role in how the information was received. These findings suggest that documentaries can be an effective tool for political education, particularly for young voters. Originality: This study provides new insights into the role of documentaries in political education for Generation Z in Semarang, using ELM theory and GSCA to explore media’s impact on political knowledge and behavior.

Abstract

This study delves into the challenges confronted by women working in the media sector in Pakistan, specifically focusing on journalists, producers, and editors. The primary objective is to identify and analyze the various obstacles hindering the professional advancement and well-being of women in this industry. Phenomenology method was used to collect the data. Thematic analysis was employed to identify common themes and patterns across the participants' experiences and perceptions. The findings reveal a multitude of challenges faced by women in the media industry, including workplace stress, technical difficulties, tight deadlines, gender discrimination, biased promotion practices, unequal pay, harassment, limited training opportunities, and closed circles obstructing career progression. Gender inequalities are pervasive, with women being underrepresented in top management positions and facing lower compensation compared to their male counterparts. Additionally, female journalists struggle to balance work and personal life responsibilities amidst societal expectations.  To address these challenges, the study recommends the implementation of policies and regulatory frameworks to protect women journalists, the establishment of training programs for professional development, the creation of mentorship opportunities, and the promotion of inclusivity and diversity within media organizations. Collaborative efforts between governments, media outlets, and society are essential to ensure the safety, well-being, and advancement of women in the media sector.

Abstract

Tempo magazine's covers depicting the political battle between Jokowi and Prabowo in the context of the 2019 Presidential Election are worth examining. Not only because in 2019, Jokowi and Prabowo met as rivals who defeated each other for the second time after the 2014 Presidential Election. Using semiotic analysis and media agenda setting theory, this study aims to identify the connotational aspects of the figures of Jokowi and Prabowo in the context of the 2019 Presidential Election on various covers of Tempo magazine. This research highlights the importance of the agenda setting process carried out by the Tempo Magazine Editor in determining the cover of Tempo Magazine in the context of the 2019 presidential election in Indonesia. This study finds that Tempo Magazine’s covers show no bias toward any presidential candidate, positioning Tempo as a neutral observer of the candidates' political behavior. The covers depict a balance of power leading to societal polarization and support divisions. Moreover, the agenda media discourse shows, instead of building opposition, it suggests a political coalition, reflecting the political communication character of Jokowi administration.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the trends in publications regarding terrorism and social media in Indonesia in 2010 to 2023. The data is categorized by publication year, research topics, and fields of study. Researchers also calculated the citations received by each publication By using citation analysis, the study seeks to uncover patterns of scholarly attention, identify the most cited works, and determine the degree to which Indonesian research is integrated into the global discourse on terrorism and digital media. This research is necessary because of limited bibliometric assessment of how this field has grown and how influential it has been.  The research findings indicate that publication trends peaked in 2021 in several topics such as radicalization/propaganda, counter radicalism/deradicalization, and religious moderation. The fields of Islamic studies and Communication studies were the most prolific in publishing studies on this subject. Of the 165 articles analyzed, only 15 articles received more than 10 citations in the broader terrorism research. On average, social media and terrorism research were cited only six times per publication in the broader terrorism literature. These suggest a lack of integration with the broader terrorism literature.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to ascertain the tactics, chances, and difficulties that the Bengkulu City National Narcotics Board has faced when educating the younger generation (Gen Z) about P4GN. The concept of the Berlo SMCR communication model is employed in this study's descriptive qualitative analysis to describe the tactics, possibilities, and difficulties faced by PUPAN Bengkulu in spreading P4GN information. The study's informants were chosen using the snowball sampling approach. Techniques for gathering data included recordkeeping, interviews, and observation. The strategies employed in data analysis include data reduction, data visualisation, and conclusion drawing. PUPAN Bengkulu uses a communication strategy that is carried out through the creation of strategic plans, their implementation, evaluation, and management. Prior to distributing P4GN material, PUPAN Bengkulu first identifies and selects the resource person. It next ascertains the intended recipient of the P4GN material and composes the message in accordance with the recipient. The media and communication channels that PUPAN Bengkulu uses to spread P4GN information are selected based on the kind of media that the general public accesses most frequently. PUPAN Bengkulu has a number of obstacles, including a shortage of manpower, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, geographic limitations, and difficulties mobilising large numbers of people during the epidemic.
