Abstract

This research investigates Indonesian affiliate marketing strategies on TikTok. Using content analysis, 25 successful affiliate videos were analysed through the lens of Jamieson's Electronic Eloquence Model. The findings confirm the model's effectiveness in identifying persuasive elements, with self-disclosure building rapport, conversational style enhancing authenticity, synoptics summarizing key information, and visual dramatization engaging viewers. Successful affiliates combine these elements, focusing on storytelling and visuals to drive persuasiveness. This study provides actionable insights for TikTok affiliates, emphasizing the importance of relatable content and strategic visual aesthetics.

Abstract

This study was conducted to understand the interpretation of millennial parents in Semarang City regarding gender performativity in the film "Kucumbu Tubuh Indahku." Gender performativity based on Judith Butler's perspective views gender as non-binary, where individuals may enact their gender differently over time based on their experiences and contexts. This qualitative descriptive research used Stuart Hall's reception analysis method to discover the audience's reception towards gender performativity in “Kucumbu Tubuh Indahku” and John Fiske's semiotic analysis to identify the preferred readings offered by "Kucumbu Tubuh Indahku”. The result revealed that (1) Tolerance towards gender diversity can be accepted by the public to achieve gender inclusivity. (2) Audiences encountered certain limitations in accepting gender performativity due to conflict with their cultural and religious beliefs (3) There is a correlation between the individuals’ background and their acceptance towards gender performativity. The research findings indicate that the audiences' backgrounds shape their receptions towards media (film).

Abstract

The childfree phenomenon in Indonesia, although still considered taboo, is increasingly being discussed, especially on social media. Data from the Central Statistics Agency shows a 2.1% decline in the marriage rate, which was 1.74 million marriages, to 1.7 million in 2022. In addition, the birth rate has also experienced a significant decline of 30.64% in the last three decades. This decline is thought to be due to various social, economic, and cultural factors, including changes in views on the family and the role of women. The childfree phenomenon has sparked heated debate over traditional values that place children as an essential part of the family and women's identity. This study examines how audiences respond to the childfree narrative in the YouTube video "Semua Hal Itu Egois" on the Menjadi Manusia channel using the Netnography and Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approaches. The results of the study show a strong division of opinion. The pro-childfree group supports this choice as an expression of personal freedom and a form of rejection of traditional gender roles. Meanwhile, 1 the opposing group emphasizes patriarchal and religious values that consider the role of mother as a natural obligation for women. This debate illustrates a complex social dynamic, in which the childfree choice reflects the tension between individual freedom and strong cultural pressures to have a family in Indonesia. These differing interpretations highlight how deeply rooted traditional values are in Indonesian society.

Abstract

Women are the gender group that dominates the number of migrant workers in Indonesia. The significant increase in the number of women among migrant workers is directly proportional to the increase in the number of cases experienced by migrant workers. Online media as a provider of public space to monitor the power and representation of minorities should be able to provide news with a positive climate for women through the implementation of gender perspective journalism. The results of the research show that online media in Indonesia has implemented most of the gender perspective journalism indicators through the proportion of sensational diction in news titles, the proportion of news bodies that meet the journalistic code of ethics adopted from articles 4, 5 and 8, the proportion of diction used in body of news, and the proportion of female and male sources in the news. Of the 63 news stories analyzed, 39 news stories (61.9%) had titles that contained some sensationalist diction, 33 news stories (52.4%) had implemented a journalistic code of ethics that was relevant to gender perspective rules, and 30 news stories (47.6%) had used diction that gender perspective. In the resource element, the research results showed that 60.5% of the resource persons were male, while 39.5% of the resource persons were female. However, the number of categories implementing some indicators and implementing all indicators is not significantly different in the category of using stereotypical diction in news titles and body of news. Thus, online media has a record of creating a more balanced proportion of reporting in terms of diction selection.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the interactivity and the classification of victim blaming comments by X netizens towards NCII Rebecca Klopper case on @sosmedkeras post. This research uses a qualitative method with a netnography framework that focuses on X comments. Data collection techniques were carried out using archival data types and documented as screenshots or copy and paste of comments from @sosmedkeras post. This research used New media theory and interactivity theory to analyze the interactivity and classify victim-blaming comments against Rebecca Klopper. The results of this study show that the victim blaming comments on Rebecca Klopper occurs in two-way communication that dominantly carried out by anonymous accounts on X and elicited various pro and con responses. Pro responses are shown in the form of interactivity such as likes, reposts and comments demeaning the victim. Meanwhile, the con response is shown in the form of interactivity such as rebuttal comments and personal attacks agains the sender of the victim blaming comments. The study further identifies four categories of victim-blaming comments: 1) Blaming the act of recording sexual activities; 2) Sexual harassment; 3) Refusing to recognize Rebecca Klopper's status as a victim; and 4) Refusing to support or sympathize with the victim. Upon further examination, the deeply ingrained patriarchal culture in society and misunderstandings about NCII (Non-Consensual Dissemination of Intimate Images) case are the primary reasons for victim blaming phenomenon against Rebecca Klopper. To mitigate victim-blaming behavior in NCII cases, it is important to enhance education and raise public awareness about NCII, sexual behavior, and the concept of consent. This will contribute to creating a safer digital environment.

Abstract

Indonesia, which was chosen to host the 2022 ASEAN Para Games, was in the spotlight of online media Okezone.com and Solopos.com which published news about athletes with disabilities competing in this event. Because of this, the news of athletes with disabilities is considered that there are still stereotypes attached to the news of athletes with disabilities and news writing that still uses figures of speech to corner the physical condition of the athletes. This study aims to analyze the news frames created by Okezone.com and Solopos.com on athletes with disabilities competing in the 2022 ASEAN Para Games with social construction theory by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann. The framing model used in this research is the framing model of William A. Gamson and Modigliani which focuses on how to tell a story or a group of ideas that present meaning construction. This research uses a qualitative method with a sample of 9 news from Okezone.com and 3 news from Solopos.com from February 2022 to August 2022. Based on the framing model of William A. Gamson and Modigliani which uses two devices, framing devices and reasoning devices, the results of the study found that athletes with disabilities were framed from 5 themes, namely (1) Athletes with disabilities as heroes, (2) Athletes with disabilities as passive victims, (3) Athletes with disabilities as objects of interest, (4) Athletes with disabilities as objects of public curiosity, (5) Disabled athletes as self-defeating individuals. This is shown from how Okezone.com and Solopos.com highlight the achievements of ASEAN Para Games disabled athletes so as to form a construction that people with disabilities are considered to have obtained their rights fairly but at the same time form an unbalanced standard against other people with disabilities who do not have abilities in sports.

Abstract

The background in this research is women who are victims of online bullying or cyberbullying on social media. Understand the informant's experience of cyberbullying incidents through the communication process, then what impacts they receive after experiencing cyberbullying behavior. There are two theories used in this research, New Media Theory and Standpoint Theory. The method used in the research is descriptive qualitative, using a phenomenological approach and interpretive paradigm, where this research is to see how victims of cyberbullying act as research subjects. The research subjects were six informants who experienced cyberbullying on social media. The results of this research found that Instagram was a forum for cyberbullying carried out by the perpetrator, where the perpetrator who carried out the cyberbullying was someone closest to the victim. From here the communication experience that occurred between the subject and the perpetrator had three phases in the communication process. New Media Theory proves that the cyberbullying experiences received by victims are mostly found on social media Instagram. Where in New Media Theory media has the nature of being easily manipulated. Cyberbullying perpetrators do this by spreading information on Instagram that is related to the victim, and it is spread widely and is believed by many people even though the truth has not been proven. Standpoint Theory reveals that women who are victims of cyberbullying do not have space to clarify the cyberbullying incidents they experienced.

Abstract

TikTok is media that currently popular among teenagers. The convenience and freedom in accessing TikTok provide teenagers with the freedom to be creative and expressive. In addition to being creative and expressive, the convenience and freedom offered by TikTok also make it a place for cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is an issue and a social phenomenon resulting from misuse of TikTok. One of the cases of cyberbullying on TikTok was experienced by the account @Cimoycantik12, who received insulting comments, taunts, and insults from teenagers through her comments section. In that case, this research aimed to describe what forms of cyberbullying are given by the perpetrators on the official TikTok account @Cimoycantik12 and analyze the various reasons for the perpetrators in cyberbullying on the official TikTok account @Cimoycantik12.The research utilized Alfred Schutz's phenomenological approach and the General affective aggression model (GAAM) by involving 5 teenagers (aged 18-24 years) who had committed cyberbullying on TikTok account @Cimoycantik12. It is qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. The results of this study indicate that the form of cyberbullying that occurs is carried out by teenagers as perpetrators is an action that they consciously take because of the personal experience of the perpetrator who has also been a victim of cyberbullying and the factor of the victim in this study, @Cimoycantik12, which provokes the perpetrators to commit acts of cyberbullying against him. The form of cyberbullying found in the official TikTok @Cimoycantik12 is a form of flaming and harassment carried out through the TikTok @Cimoycantik12 comment column. The reason for teenagers as perpetrators of cyberbullying on the official TikTok @Cimoycantik12 account is because the perpetrators consider that the TikTok @Cimoycantik12 content is less educational, not in accordance with the ethics of social media in adolescence which should trigger the perpetrators to carry out cyberbullies.

Abstract

Male facial care advertisement has the aim of offering products as a solution to men's facial problems through the talent presented as the image of the product. Current facial care advertisements feature a metrosexual figure, but researchers found a different figure through the MS Glow For Men "Semua Juga Bisa" advertisement arguing that all men are capable of looking good without having to follow beauty standards. This research aims to describe the representation of the male figure and understand why MS Glow For Men presents the figure in the product advertisement with the tagline "Semua Juga Bisa". This research was conducted using qualitative method with semiotic analysis of Roland Barthes model. Researchers use various theories to describe the male figure in advertisements, namely the theory of social construction of reality, superiority/disparagement theory, and incongruity theory. Representation is seen with a constructionist approach that interprets symbols and language based on cultural and social meanings. The research resulted in the finding that the representation of the male figure displayed in the MS Glow For Men "Semua Juga Bisa" advertisement is the figure of a worker (working-class men as target consumers), risk takers (men are willing to do anything to achieve their dreams), violent figure (men use violence to solve problems), leader, loyal, and responsible (assertive male, decision-maker, obedient, and responsible for him and the group), facialist (men are interested in body care), and narcissist (men have high self-confidence and success comes from appearance). The male figure in the MS Glow For Men “Semua Juga Bisa” advertisement is an illusion that is presented with humor, but contains content that degrades the lower middle economic group, finally this advertisement persuades target consumers to follow the beauty standard
