Abstract

Permendikbud No. 30 of 2021 reflects the government's commitment to preventing and handling sexual violence in universities. However, its implementation triggered debates in various aspects such as religion, socio-culture, and law. Detik.com and Kumparan.com are examples of online media that provide a forum for public discussion on controversial issues related to the regulation. By applying constructivist framing analysis, this study reveals three frames used by online media Detik.com and Kumparan.com, namely "Permendikbud No. 30 of 2021 Upholding Human Rights", "Permendikbud No. 30 of 2021 is a Rudimentary Legal Provision", and "Legalization of Free Sex and increasing the number of LGBT in Permendikbud No. 30 of 2021". Research finds that the media has divided public opinion into three groups such as opponents, moderates, and supporters based on their respective ideological differences. The analysis also highlights the media's dominant focus on religious and legal themes, emphasizing the views of religious figures and referring to Islamic concept and legal prohibitions related to sex outside marriage.

Abstract

This research discusses the social media Instagram as a medium for women to express their sexual desires. The aim of this research is to describe and understand the experiences of women who express their sexual desires on Instagram. This type of research is descriptive qualitative and the method used in this research is in-depth interviews with informants. The results of research from in-depth interviews with informants show that when they first expressed their sexual desires they felt attracted to, curious about Prince Abdul Mateen and the influence of the surrounding environment. Women still hide behind anonymous accounts and are brave because fellow women have the same thoughts. This is not in line with the Existentialist Feminism Theory put forward by Simone de Beauvoir. The impact is that they only get satisfaction in expressing their opinions and expressing their sexual desires, giving appreciation to Prince Abdul Mateen. Apart from that, the response given by the informants regarding the news circulating on the internet was an attitude of ignorance and only following the response of the individual who was the 'object'. While the space provided by Instagram has provided satisfactory expression and adequate features, although some still feel that there are restrictions on expression on Instagram.

Abstract

Media convergence is interpreted as the combination of various information and communication technology services, along with increasing digitalization making it possible for people to access various types of media content, making media organizations produce content that can be enjoyed across media. On the other hand, internet users continue to increase and people's attention to conventional media, especially radio, has decreased, which has caused the radio industry to begin to decline. A strategy is needed for radio to still be heard, namely by carrying out media convergence. This research aims to find out how the media convergence process strategy is carried out by Radio Republik Indonesia Semarang to maintain its existence in the digital era. The theory used in this research is Media Convergence Theory, while the method used is qualitative research using a case study approach, by conducting interviews and observations in the RRI Semarang environment who are involved and related to the process of implementing media convergence. The results of this research indicate that RRI Semarang views media convergence as quite important in its position as a Public Broadcasting Institution and reference media which needs to anticipate changes in information consumption patterns in society. This is done through various owned platforms such as RRI Digital, the RRI.co.id page, the RRI NET channel, social media for each program and news, as well as the YouTube channel. Planning is carried out in the broadcast and news sector, guided by the LPP RRI Broadcast Guidelines Book and the Reporting Style Book. The technical convergence strategy refers to understanding the direction of convergence, positioning as a media verifier, following the flow of convergence, strengthening the technical and multimedia sectors, adapting content, and building interactivity. The promotional strategy refers to the use of soft-selling through promotions on personal accounts and hard-selling through on-air and off-air promotions. This has implications for analytical and quality achievements, although it still has shortcomings.

Abstract

The high rate of child marriage in Indonesia, largely driven by out-of-wedlock pregnancies, has presented a series of complex challenges for the men involved. These individuals face significant emotional, social, and economic pressures, including demands to drop out of school and the risk of experiencing depression and loneliness. Additionally, child marriages are often prone to divorce and domestic violence (DV), primarily due to the lack of emotional maturity and poor communication between partners. This study aims to explore the narrative of decision-making during marriage among men who married at a young age due to out-of-wedlock pregnancies. Through in-depth interviews with three informants who experienced child marriage, this research examines how communication influences the decision to marry at a young age, as well as the decisions made throughout the marriage. The study employs Labov's narrative analysis method to delve into and understand this process. The results of this study show that decision-making among men who marry at a young age involves a series of stages, whether in facing premarital pregnancy, economic crises, family planning, or decisions regarding domestic violence (DV) and divorce. Initially, they experience confusion and uncertainty, but with pressure from family and financial situations, they take steps to adapt to their new responsibilities. Decisions to marry and face economic challenges are made through cooperation and open communication with their partners. In terms of family planning, wives tend to take a more dominant role, while husbands support them through full trust. Furthermore, the rejection of DV and divorce reflects an awareness that conflicts can be resolved through patience and thoughtful discussion, indicating a commitment to the continuity of marriage.

Abstract

Suicide is still considered a taboo topic for discussion, and victims or survivors of suicide often face negative stigma from society. This stigma can be formed or reinforced through media reporting, which serves as a primary source of information. Reporting on suicide attempts and actions that is not handled carefully can also trigger copycat suicide phenomena among vulnerable groups, particularly adolescents. Adolescents and young adults are the most at-risk population for suicide. Detik.com views suicide as an important issue to address, but it is crucial to pay attention to the quality and ethics of reporting, especially in relation to the sensitivity of journalists toward suicide reporting ethics. This study aims to analyze how Detik.com frames its reporting on suicide and to identify potential ethical violations in the coverage of suicide actions and attempts among adolescents. One article published during the period of January 2023 to December 2023 was selected based on three dominant narratives and analyzed using the Zhongdang Pan and Kosicki framing model. This analysis includes four elements: syntactic structure, script structure, thematic structure, and rhetorical structure. The theory used in this research is the Social Responsibility Theory and the Ethical Guidelines for Suicide Reporting. The results of the study show that there are seven frames used by Detik.com in reporting on suicide victims, namely: (1) a quiet person, (2) someone experiencing romantic issues, (3) someone who is always determined to die and lacks consideration, (4) experiencing depression or mental disorders, (5) displaying strange and puzzling behavior, (6) suicide victims by hanging, and (7) suicide victims by jumping. Ethically, the frequently violated points are points 1, 4, 9, and 14 from the Suicide Action and Attempt Reporting Guidelines from the Press Council. These violations indicate that the news is presented sensationally, spreading myths about suicide, stigmatizing the victim, and providing excessive detail about the suicide event.

Abstract

Abstract

Women with experiences of sexual violence are often viewed as individuals who cannot rise and live their lives as they did before. This perception stems from a patriarchal ideology that oppresses women through sexual violence, causing women who have experienced such actions to be seen as degraded, inferior, and impure. However, Gina S. Noer, as the writer and director, along with Chand Parwez Servia, the producer of the film Like & Share (2022), strive to show how women can break free from these oppressive thoughts by portraying female survivors of sexual violence who are able to recover and find meaning in their traumatic experiences. The research titled ‘The Representation of Female Survivors of Sexual Violence in the Film Like & Share (2022)’ aims to describe female survivors and the actualization of Gina and Chand's statements regarding the film through the lens of critical theory: gender and race in organizational communication and the muted group theory. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method with a critical paradigm and Schleiermacher's hermeneutic analysis approach. The research results show that the character Sarah experiences rape and Online Gender-Based Violence (OGBV), while Fita faces OGBV. Both have gone through various stages, ultimately reaching the stage of acceptance as female survivors of sexual violence. Character analysis reveals that Sarah goes through stages of denial, depression, problem-solving, and acceptance, while Fita goes through stages of anger, problem-solving, and acceptance. Furthermore, the hermeneutics of the message conveyed by Gina and Chand regarding female survivors of sexual violence in the film Like & Share is also successfully actualized through scenes in the film that depict female as survivors of sexual violence who are able to heal and accept themselves despite having to overcome various obstacles in society.

Abstract

This research is based on the existence of Semarang City Punk Community which actively displays symbols in their events by members of the Punk Community. This study aims to analyze the formation of symbols and also the experience of members of the punk community in using their symbols. This research was conducted qualitatively with a phenomenological approach. The data used in this study were data from in-depth interviews with a number of informants. The informants in this study had the criterion of being members of the punk community who actively used punk community symbols. Analysis in this research will be carried out using Social Identity Theory, Identity Communication Theory, and Symbolic Interaction Theory. With a phenomenological approach with Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), research results will be obtained through a review of the patterns and final themes obtained. The results showed that the emergence of symbols was due to the unrest of corrupt government and defending the interested that was felt mutually by members of the Punk Community. This anxiety is generally conveyed through music, namely in song lyrics. In addition to music and songs, the symbols used by members of the punk community are conveyed in various forms such as black shirts, mohawck hair, boots, and other attributes. Each of these symbols has a collective meaning that members of the punk community themselves believe in. The collective meaning that members of the punk community widely believe has the meaning of resistance to a corrupt government. Furthermore, it was found that not only through songs, but punk ideology was also conveyed through fashion, attributes, and action. In the experience of using these symbols, receiving bad views from around is common for members of the punk community, including being scapegoats, difficult to gain trust from sponsors, being considered riotous, and so on. But this did not reduce the intensity of the use of symbols by members of the punk community despite being overwhelmed with mixed feelings of pride, happiness, and sadness. This feeling is based on a bad stigma and a pride for them to keep using their symbols and prove the opposite.
