Abstract

Utilization of Eggshell Waste As Liquid Organic Fertilizer in Rumbai Bukit District. Eggshell waste can be used for the manufacture of liquid organic fertilizer. Eggshells can come from laying hens farm waste and household kitchen waste. The utilization of liquid organic fertilizer (POC) from eggshell waste is done to minimize environmental pollution. In addition, eggshell waste recycling has economic value. The activity of making liquid organic fertilizer was carried out by 10 Kukerta students, Riau University. The location for making liquid organic fertilizer is in the yard of Mr. Masdi's house, the chairman of RW 7, Rumbai Bukit District. The method of making liquid organic fertilizer is by fermentation for 10 days at a temperature of around 40oC. The materials used are eggshells, EM4 solution, brown sugar, and water, while the tools needed are a basin, a bottle, a grinder, and a thermometer. The purpose of this program is to increase the knowledge of the residents of Rumbai Bukit on the benefits of eggshell waste in making POC. So far, eggshell waste has only been piled up on vacant land belonging to the village and as a source of air pollution. Making POC from 1 kg of eggshell powder produced 500 ml. During the practice, 7 bottles of POC were produced containing 500 mL per bottle with a capital of Rp. 5,000 per bottle. POC testing on chili and papaya plants planted in people's yards was carried out with qualitative observations of the leaves which showed wider leaves than plants that were not given POC. The results of the participation questionnaire to increase the knowledge and skills of the RW 7 Rumbai Bukit community in participating in activities and developing POC manufacturing increased by 87.5%. This outreach activity adds to the value of eggshell waste every 1 kg after it becomes a POC, which is sold for a profit of Rp. 10,000. Utilization of eggshell waste as POC can increase the economy of the Family Welfare Development (PKK) women's group by 50%.

Abstract

An earthen pond was built at the location of catfish farming in Rumbai Bukit Village. Water sources come from springs, rainwater and water flow from surrounding channels. The volume of pond water during the dry season continuously decreases. The water level is reduced by > 10% per day in ponds 1, 2, and 3. To overcome the pond water level lowering, a pump is needed to drain water from pond 3 to pond 1 at the filter pond with a power of 16.23 watts. With the power requirements and pump capacity, the Aqua 125 W Pump was chosen, with a capacity of 30 Lpm, with a total head of 37 meters. Measurement of water quality before installing the pump and water filter showed that the pH ranged from 6.5-7.4, TDS ranged from 68-78 ppm, and the temperature was 27-34⁰C and after the pump and water filter were installed it was seen that the pH ranged from 6.6-7, 8 (an increase), TDS ranged from 66-41 ppm and a temperature of 26-29⁰C (decreased). The results obtained indicate that the application of pumps and water filters facilitates water circulation in ponds 1, 2, and 3 as well as 4, 5. Extension activities on the design of the soil pond and the application of pumps and water filters have overcome the decline in pond water levels during the dry season.

Abstract

Laundry detergent waste is toxic and can harm the environment and aquatic life. This study aims to find out the effect of detergent waste on the growth and mortality of gourami (Osphronemus gouramy) seeds and the threshold value of laundry detergent waste that can still be tolerated by gourami seeds. This research was carried out from December 2020 to January 2021 at the Aquaculture Environmental Quality Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPK) University of Riau. This research method used an experimental method using a completely randomized design (CRD) method with three tests namely the preliminary test, acute toxicity test, and sublethal test. Observation of fish behavior and morphology during the test is described descriptively. In the preliminary test, the lower and upper threshold values were 10 mlL-1and 100 mlL-1. Then in the acute toxicity test, the value LC50-96hour was obtained at 30.1 mlL-1with a biological safe limit value of 0.301 mlL-1. The best treatment obtained from the sublethal test was P1 with a concentration of 0.3 mlL-1resulting in an absolute weight gain of 1.03 g, a specific growth rate of 1.56%, and a survival rate of 83.33%. The mortality rate is influenced by the concentration of detergent waste, the higher the concentration of detergent waste, the higher the mortality rate. Detergent waste that enters the waters affects the surface tension of the water so that the oxygen diffusion process is hampered, the reduced dissolved oxygen stresses the fish. Detergent waste can also enter the fish's body, irritating the gills and other organs, which can lead to death
