This research aims to describe the transformation of the short story Blokeng by Ahmad Tohari into a drama performance. The theory used is Rifaterre and Pradotokusumo's transformation theory. This research method is descriptive qualitative. The research results show that there are two transformation processes that occur. First, five data were found in the form of expansion or additions to the plot and characters of the short story Blokeng by Ahmad Tohari in drama performances. Second, two modified data were found from the short story Blokeng by Ahmad Tohari for drama performances. Third, there are seven things from the research results regarding the transformation of short stories into drama performances that can be applied to the Drama Appreciation course. The creation of an adapted drama performance as a form of change in a literary work may result in several differences from the work that is the reference. Thus, in the process of adapting a literary work into a drama performance, one should still pay attention to the meaning of the story, so that the audience still gets a thorough understanding of the essence of the literary work when the transformation process occurs from what was originally a textual media then converted into an audio-visual media. or vice versa. Theoretically, this research contributes to providing knowledge to readers about the transformation of the short story Blokeng by Ahmad tohari into the drama performance. Furthermore, it is hoped that teaching materials will be produced that is useful for the Drama Appreciation course.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of gender injustice in Eka Kurniawan’s novel Cantik Itu Luka through a qualitative content analysis approach. The research focuses on five dominant forms of gender-based oppression: stereotyping, violence, double burden, marginalization, and subordination. These categories were applied to classify and interpret the narrative elements such as character, plot, and thematic structure that reflect unequal gender relations within the text. Data were collected through a thorough textual reading, supported by keyword identification and classification based on feminist theory, particularly radical and postcolonial feminism. The results reveal that stereotyping is the most frequently occurring form of injustice, where female characters are often labeled as immoral, dishonorable, or inherently inferior. Acts of violence against women, both physical and symbolic, are portrayed as normalized responses within patriarchal and militaristic structures. The novel also depicts how female characters experience a double burden working in both domestic and economic spheres without recognition or compensation. Furthermore, women's access to education, agency, and public space is repeatedly denied, reinforcing their marginalization. While subordination appears less frequently, it is ideologically significant in shaping the female characters’ roles as submissive, obedient, and sacrificial figures. Despite focusing on a single literary work, this study contributes to the development of feminist literary criticism in Indonesia by demonstrating how narrative fiction can reflect, reinforce, and challenge prevailing gender ideologies. The study also offers insights for further interdisciplinary research and critical literacy practices centered on gender equity.

Abstract

A fundamental gap between the demand for multimodal communication competence in the digital era and conventional, text-centric writing pedagogy in higher education was the foundational problem for this research. This study investigated the effectiveness of an integrated learning model, combining Project-Based Learning (PjBL) and Digital Storytelling (DST), as a solution to simultaneously enhance students' creative narrative writing skills and multimodal communication competence. The research employed a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design involving 60 Indonesian Language and Literature Education students, divided into an experimental group (n=30) and a control group (n=30). The results demonstrated a statistically significant advantage for the experimental group, which exhibited substantially greater improvement in creative narrative writing skills (t(58) = 20.45, p < .001) and achieved superior multimodal communication competence scores (t(58) = 16.98, p < .001) compared to the control group. The study concluded that the integration of PjBL and DST is an effective and robust pedagogical intervention for equipping students with holistic literacy skills relevant to the 21st century, successfully bridging traditional writing practices with contemporary digital communication demands.
