Abstract

The importance of differentiated learning in the classroom is to meet students' diverse learning needs, increase engagement, and maximize individual potential so that each student can achieve optimal learning outcomes. This research was carried out as a starting point in the use of differentiated learning modules on problem-based comparison materials so that students' mathematical problem-solving skills are good, but there are still many learnings that do not integrate student needs, and students still experience difficulties in understanding comparative materials. The type of research used is development studies-type design research with the aim of producing a problem-based differentiated learning module on comparative materials that is valid, practical, and has a potential effect of using differentiated learning modules of comparative materials on students' mathematical problem-solving skills. The research subjects were 36 students of class VII.8 of junior high school 17 Palembang. The data collection techniques used were questionnaires, tests, and interviews. The results showed that the problem-based differentiated learning module on comparison material was quite valid with an average percentage of 82.9% and very practical with an average percentage of 83.3%, and students had good mathematical problem-solving skills with an average percentage of 83.069% after the implementation of learning. The resulting teaching module contains lesson plans, student worksheets, teaching materials, assessments, and assessment rubrics.

Abstract

This study purposes to describe the strategies used by students in solving PISA type problems seen from the strategy of problem solving according to Polya. The research methodology is qualitative type descriptive study. Research subjects were 6 high school students in Palembang who had different levels of mathematical ability. Data was gathered using observation, interviews, and student answer sheets on the type of PISA questions given. The results showed that the dominant strategy used by students in solving PISA type problems included making pictures when they solve problem related to geometry; looking for possible answers systematically when they try to solve problem within numeric; writing information stated and the question when the problem is in the form of storytelling; and using trial and error when the problem provide answer alternatives. Abstract

The aims of the research is to produce the set of oriented realistic mathematical education (RME) approach material that is valid and practical for teaching in elementary school student of the fifth grade and have a good potencial effect. PMRI is one of learning approach which dribbles students in understanding mathematics concept by selfcontruction through prior knowledge which is related to daily activity, finding the concept by themselves so that the learning becomes meaningful. The research is a development research and method used in two stages, that are preliminary study (analysis and model development stage) and formative study (evaluation and revision stage). The samples were students of fifth grade at SD Negeri 179 Palembang. In technique collecting the data, the writer used interview with the experts, observation by using prototype. The data was analyzed by using descriptive method. The result of data analyses concludes that the development of geometry and measurement prototype for the fifth grade students is valid based on content, construction, and language. It can be conclude from the documentary data that the use of student’s book has been a practical use. The try out tested on students has given potential effect which is the students like to study using realistic mathematical education approach with student activity level of 6.47 in a very high criteria and the average of final mark of 87,17 in a very good criteria. Abstract

Abstract

Mathematical communication is a skill to articulate mathematical ideas through written and verbal expressions. Despite its importance, students often exhibit difficulties in initiating and organizing mathematical ideas, particularly in written form. Prior research highlights the critical role of communication in fostering early algebraic thinking. This study aims to: (1) examine students’ mathematical communication skills and explore how it reflects early algebraic thinking, using the commognitive framework, which encompasses word use, visual mediators, narratives, and routines, and (2) describe statistically the relationship between algebraic thinking and oral communication skills. A descriptive research design with mixed-methods approach was employed, involving 29 eighth-grade students as participants. Data was collected through written tests, and the results were analyzed descriptively. The findings indicate that four students demonstrated excellent communication skills, nine students were categorized as good, 11 students as fair, three students as poor, and two students as very poor. Further analysis showed that students with stronger communication skills more effectively conveyed algebraic ideas. The results also underscore the commognitive framework practical application in enhancing students’ conceptual understanding. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of how students communicate, reason algebraically, and demonstrates the potential of the commognitive framework to support instructional design and skill development in mathematics education.

Abstract

Numerous studies have shown that students face difficulties in learning probability. This study aimed to enhance students’ understanding of the concept of probability while developing their reasoning skills by integrating comics into student worksheets. It focused on designing probability material for grade 10 using the student worksheets and microlearning (comics) that were both effective and efficient. The material was developed using Pendidikan Matematika Realistik Indonesia (PMRI) approach, incorporating a microlearning method within the context of culinary tourism, to enhance students’ understanding of probability and reasoning skills. This study employed a design research methodology in two stages, namely preliminary study and formative evaluation. The subjects of this study were 34 students of grade tenth at Senior High School in Prabumulih. Data collected through observations, tests, and interviews were analyzed descriptively. The study resulted the student worksheets on probability, which were incorporated with microlearning comics whose effectiveness and efficiency were aligned with the characteristics of the PMRI approach. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the PMRI-based student worksheets that were incorporated with microlearning comics were efficient and effective in helping students develop their reasoning skills. The integration of comics and the PMRI approach reflects a commitment to innovation and the continuous development of effective learning designs that promote inclusive, equitable, and meaningful learning experiences.
