Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' metacognition skills in solving problems in geometric shapes in terms of numeracy abilities. In this study using descriptive qualitative method. Information sorting techniques involving instruments in the form of surveys of metacognition skills, tests structured as exposition questions regarding approved spatial forms and interviews to obtain information. In problem solving, students who have high metacognition skills are more thorough and precise starting from planning, monitoring, and evaluating. They take a long time to solve the problem, but the results obtained are correct or correct. Conversely, students who have low metacognition skills seem rushed and less thorough and begin with planning, monitoring and evaluation. Students who have low metacognition skills to solve problems have not been able to manage all activities and do not know what metacognitive activities are being carried out.

Abstract

One of the abilities that students need to develop is proportional thinking. Mathematical problems and real-world situations involving the connection between numbers and comparisons need students to use their reasoning skills to reach conclusions. The purpose of this study is to characterize, in terms of self-efficacy, students' proportional reasoning skills when addressing quantity content PISA questions. The self-efficacy questionnaire, PISA questions on quantitative content, interview instructions, and documentation are among the instruments used in this descriptive qualitative study. The study's findings demonstrate that students with low self-efficacy struggle to meet proportional reasoning requirements, contemplate difficulties, and give up quickly out of fear of failing, Pupils rely on guesswork to solve issues instead than attempting to come up with novel solutions. Students with moderate self-efficacy can identify proportional quantities in problems and understand them, but they are not yet able to convert quantities into other forms. They can also use the appropriate strategy but are still hesitant and make mistakes when calculating. Students with moderate self-efficacy are eager to work on problems, but they give up easily when faced with challenging ones. However, despite their continued self-doubt, students continue to look for answers. Despite their restricted talents, students who possess strong self-efficacy are able to meet proportional reasoning markers. Students who have high self efficacy tend to have motivation, high enthusiasm and have confidence in their abilities, students will try to find new ideas to solve problems.

Abstract

This research explores students' mathematical communication skills in solving Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) problems, considering visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. The study aims to describe students' mathematical communication abilities and understand how learning styles influence these capabilities. A qualitative descriptive research method was employed, involving second-semester seventh-grade students at MTs Negeri 1 Pacitan. Data collection comprised learning style questionnaires, mathematical communication skills tests, and interviews. Results indicate that students with visual learning styles effectively conveyed situations and explained problem-solving strategies but lacked precision in validating arguments. Auditory learners demonstrated proficiency in all four indicators of mathematical communication skills, including argument validation. Kinesthetic learners, while capable of stating situations, encountered difficulties in elucidating problem-solving strategies and did not engage in argument validation.

Abstract

Good learning design is a learning design that is adjusted to the needs of students in order to achieve the learning objectives that have been set. This study aims to analyze students' understanding of mathematical concepts in Realistic Mathematic Education learning with students who do not apply hypothetical learning trajectory to trigonometric comparison material. Quantitative research method with phonomology design. The subjects of this study were 28 students of class X IPA at SMA 1 Boyolali. The data and data sources in this study consisted of the results of observations of test answers, and interview results. Data collection techniques from written test results (diagnostic tests), interviews and observations. The results of the study obtained the results of the Mann-Whitney test on the post-test value data showed a significance value of 0.000 on students' conceptual understanding. This significance value is smaller than the significance level of α = 0.05 so that there is a significant difference in the average value of conceptual understanding between the experimental and control classes. So it can be concluded that students in the experimental class who were given mathematics learning treatment using RME-based HLT had a better conceptual understanding than students in the control class who were not given treatment.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of ethnomathematics in the architectural elements of the Grand Mosque of Keraton Kasunanan Surakarta, particularly in geometry topics, and to explore its use as a meaningful mathematics learning medium. Through a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach, this research explores the application of concepts such as flat shapes, solid shapes, and geometric transformations in architectural elements such as columns, towers, roofs, and mosque ornaments. The results of the study indicate that the architecture of the Grand Mosque of Surakarta is not only rich in historical and cultural values but also reflects relevant geometric concepts. This research identifies ethnomathematics in the Grand Mosque of Keraton Kasunanan Surakarta in the form of (1) Flat shape concepts, (2) Geometric transformation concepts, (3) Solid shape concepts; and the mathematical values contained in the Grand Mosque of Keraton Kasunanan Surakarta, including (1) Practical value and utility value, (2) Discipline value, (3) Cultural value. The study emphasizes that the integration of ethnomathematics in the curriculum can assist students in understanding mathematical concepts within the context of local culture, making them more relevant and meaningful. Thus, ethnomathematics at the Grand Mosque of Keraton Kasunanan Surakarta has the potential to offer a mathematics learning perspective that connects academic aspects with cultural and aesthetic values.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze students' mathematical representation skills in solving PISA Space and Shape content questions, taking into account their numerical ab. Mathematical representation is a key skills in understanding and solving mathematical problems, while numerical skills play a vital role in developing an understanding of concepts and their applications in spatial and shape contexts. The research method employed is a qualitative approach, collecting data from students through written tests and interviews. The research instruments include questions reflecting Space and Shape content from PISA, as well as numerical skills tests. The research findings indicate a significant relationship between students' numerical skills and their skills to represent mathematical problems related to Space and Shape. Students with better numerical skills tend to have better mathematical representation skills. Furthermore, these findings can provide insights for educators and researchers to develop teaching strategies that integrate the development of numerical skills and mathematical representation, there by enhancing the quality of students' mathematical understanding at a global level.
