Abstract

This study aimed to discover the learning difficulties experienced by the guidance and counseling students on group counseling practicum. This study was categorized as a descriptive study involving 286 students of seven Universities in the Special Region of Yogyakarta as the sample of the study. The sample was taken by using purposive sampling technique. The data collection technique of this study was a learning difficulties in group counseling practicum questionnaire by open and closed-ended questions. The data of this study were analyzed by using simple descriptive analysis by calculating the percentage and the categorization of the questionnaire score. The result of the study showed that the most contributing factor to the the students’ learning difficulties on the group counseling practicum was the aspect of the lecturer teaching method by 53.31%. Besides, the result of the open-ended questionnaire showed that lack of group counseling basic skill mastery is one of the difficulties they experience during the group counseling service at the school. It contributes 38.46%. It showed that the practicum teaching methods need improvement to optimize the students ability in practicing group counseling in school. This study becomes the basic consideration of the needs of learning model for group counseling practicum for the students of guidance and counseling in the Special Region of Yogyakarta.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the effectiveness of Donald Super's career counseling in increasing student self-efficacy and career commitment. This experimental research involved 20 guidance and counseling department students in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, recruited using purposive sampling technique. The subjects were divided into two groups. Self-efficacy and career commitment scales were deployed to collect the data. The collected data were analyzed using Wilcoxon test. The results of the study show that Donald Super's career counseling was  effective in increasing self-efficacy and career commitment of guidance and counseling students. The results of this study can be used as a reference by counselors in higher education to increase self-efficacy and career commitment of students using Donald Super's career counseling.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to discover the effectiveness of miracle questions technique on rational problem-solving skill. The method employed in the study was pre-experimental with single-subject experimental design. The subject of the study was five managers of HIMA PPB FIP UNY consisting of three males and two females. The present study was conducted in 3 (three) phases namely pre-treatment, treatment, and post-treatment. The data were collected using problem-solving scale and miracle questions technique counseling guide. The data were analyzed using non-parametric statistical analysis namely wilcoxon test. The result of the study exhibited that miracle questions technique was effective on rational problem-solving skill (Asymp sig. (2-tailed 0,043<0,05) With 5% of level of significance. Therefore, miracle questions technique is effective to improve the rational problem-solving skill of the student organizer of HIMA PPB FIP UNY. The result of the study can be used as consideration to applying miracle questions technique in broader scope for counselor.

Abstract

The present study aimed to describe students’ anger management based on its aspects. Applying descriptive quantitative approach,  the present study involved 280 students of SMK Muhammadiyah Mungkid who were recruited using simple random sampling technique.  The data were collected using anger management scale and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The present study showed that students’ overall anger management skill was categorized as very high. In terms of anger management aspects, students’ anger recognition, anger control, anger relief, and assertive anger expression skills were categorized as high, high, moderate, and high, respectively. The result of the present study is expected to serve as a preliminary study for school counselors to determine appropriate techniques to help students to improve anger management skills.

Abstract

The present study aimed to discover the relationship between Learning Interest and Learning Autonomy of the Students of SMP Negeri 10 Yogyakarta. This study was categorized into correlational and ex post facto study. The population of the study was all students of SMP Negeri 10 Yogyakarta (507 students), the sample of the study was 253 students; they were selected by using proportional stratified random sampling.  The data were collected using learning interest scale and learning autonomy scale. The data were analyzed using wilcoxon signed rank test, the p result was 0.740 for learning interest and p=0.744 for learning autonomy. The result of the study showed that there was a relationship between Learning Interest and Learning Autonomy of the Students of SMP Negeri 10 Yogyakarta by 0.327, the 5% Ts probability score was 0.000 (p <0.05). The result of the present study can be used as a picture for the school counselor in providing a service that suits the students’ learning interest and learning autonomy.

Abstract

This correlational study aimed to find out the relationship between self-control and academic dishonesty among students in SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta Data were collected from 222 randomly selected 11th-grade students using self-control and academic dishonesty scales.   The product Moment Correlation analysis result showed a correlation coefficient of -0.188, indicating a negative correlation between self-control and academic dishonesty. In other words, students with better self-control tend not to commit academic dishonesty. This study result serves as a reference for school counselors in developing services to improve students’ self-control.

Abstract

Many countries worldwide undergo changes in various sectors due Covid-19 pandemic, including Indonesia and Malaysia. The pandemic also affects university students’ physical and psychological aspects. This comparative study attempted to find out the difference in university students’ psychological well-being during the Covid-19 pandemic. The population of this study was university students of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and Universitas Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Malaysia. Six hundred-one university students were recruited using an accidental sampling technique. The data were collected using psychological well-being scale. Mann-Whitney test was performed to determine the difference in students’ psychological well-being in the two universities. The study result showed a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a difference in students’ psychological well-being at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta and Universitas Pendidikan Sultan Idris. This study result is expected to provide a depiction of students’ psychological well-being during the covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine 1) the relationship between course interest and learning motivation. 2) Differences in course interest and learning motivation in terms of gender and grade level after the Covid-19 Pandemic. The participants were 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade vocational high school students at Bandar Lampung. Data were collected using the Course Interest Scale (CIS) and Instructional Materials Motivation Survey (IMMS) developed by Keller and analyzed using product moment correlation, Mann-Whitney, and Kruskal Wallis.   While learning motivation and course interest exhibited a significant difference in terms of gender, no significant difference was noticed in terms of grade. This study found a significant relationship between course interest and learning motivation, with a value of 0.668. The results of this study can be used as a basis for developing a program in vocational high school context in Bandar Lampung.
