Abstract

Religious legitimacy is a potent means of achieving one's objectives, including the pursuit of economic benefits. This is how Islamic financial institutions employ the fatwa of the National Sharia Council (DSN-MUI) in their operations. Nonetheless, this objective is often in conflict with the noblest religious ideals of justice, equality, and humanity. This paper aims to explain how the DSN-MUI fatwa acquires religious legitimacy, as well as the repercussions of granting this legitimacy to the public that utilizes Islamic financial institutions. The collected data consists of the texts of DSN-MUI fatwa from 2000 to 2021 as well as the results of interviews with DSN-MUI practitioners of Islamic economics, and pertinent academicians. The data is then descriptively and critically analyzed. The findings of the study suggest that there are three fatwa issued by the DSN-MUI that legitimize profits gained by Islamic financial institutions. However, this method may violate significant religious norms. This paper also concludes that competition between conventional and Islamic financial institutions is a significant factor in the emergence of this legitimacy.

Abstract

Sharia financial literacy is one of the important programs carried out by the government in order to improve the Indonesian economy in the future. This research aims to determine the level of sharia financial inclusion literacy among teachers at the Bukittinggi City Islamic Boarding School, with a sample size of 73 respondents, by conducting qualitative descriptive analysis. The author's background in discussing this title is because he sees that Islamic boarding schools as institutions or sharia-based institutions have sharia-based teachers who still lack sharia-based financial literacy and inclusion, so there are still many teachers who use conventional-based financial products rather than sharia-based ones. This research uses a qualitative approach using the Nvivo application using primary and secondary data. The analytical method used is a descriptive approach, namely identifying problems related to Islamic boarding schools currently facing using Nvivo analysis. The results of the research found that the results of the research that had been carried out on the teacher council at the Bukittinggi City Islamic Boarding School through interviews at the time of the research stated that the majority had understood sharia financial literacy because financial literacy had now been widely socialized and even some teachers already knew about sharia financial literacy. , it's just that knowledge about financial inclusion is still low

Abstract

Introduction: This study aims to examine the influence of lifestyle on personal financial management, with financial imprudence serving as a moderating variable. The focus is on students at Islamic State Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN) in West Sumatra, where increasing consumer behavior raises concerns about financial discipline among young adults. Method: A quantitative survey method was employed, with data collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire distributed via Google Forms. The population consisted of PTKIN students in West Sumatra. A total of 288 responses were collected, with 271 valid after data screening. Sampling was conducted using the Rao Purba formula. Data were analyzed using the Warp Partial Least Squares method through WarpPLS 7.0 software. Result: Findings indicate that lifestyle has a positive and significant effect on personal financial management (p-value = 0.056 < 0.05). Additionally, financial imprudence moderates the relationship between lifestyle and financial management, as evidenced by an interaction coefficient of 0.080. While the moderating effect is statistically significant, it is relatively small in magnitude. Conclusion: Lifestyle significantly shapes how individuals manage their personal finances. A more balanced lifestyle tends to support better financial practices. Furthermore, financial imprudence—as a reflection of excessive or wasteful spending—can either strengthen or diminish this relationship, suggesting its critical yet nuanced role in financial behavior dynamics.

This finding confirms the validity of the factor structure as well as its compatibility with the maqasid al-sharia approach.Practical Implication: This study emphasizes the integration of maqasid al-shariah into regional development, ensuring a balance between material and non-material welfare. The framework supports policymakers in reducing disparities and promoting inclusive and sustainable growth.Originality/Value: This research offers a new approach in mapping conventional economic development indicators into the maqasid al-sharia approach through the EFA method, which has not been widely done in shariah economic development studies in Indonesia.
