This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the process of making and using vegetableinsecticide with basic materials Doddel Laurel (Cassytha filiformis L) of the brown planthopper(Nilaparvata lugens). The method used has two stages, namely 1). Preparation Extracts Doddel Laurel (Cassythafiliformis L)) as the solution of the Master, 2). Implementation Testing Laboratory Scale. The results of this study is doddel laurel (Cassytha filiformis L) has the potential to be used as abotanical insecticide. The process of making botanical insecticide with doddel laurel (Cassytha filiformisL) has 2 stages of preparation for the extract doddel laurel (Cassytha filiformis L) as the solution of theMaster consist of washing, cutting, drying, extracting, and screening and testing laboratory scale consistof variationing concentration of solution, adaptation brown planthopper, botanical insecticide spraying, and observations. The use of botanical insecticide with basic material doddel laurel (Cassytha filiformis L)against brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens) has not been as effective as compared with decis within900 seconds. The use of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% botanical insecticide with basic materials doddel laurel(Cassytha filiformis L) was able to take the death brown planthopper in a row are 1 head, 1 tail, 2 tailsand 3 tails. Compared with decis that take the death of 4 brown planthoppers. The recommendedsolution is to extract with 100% concentration having the time of death is the shortest. Keywords: Doddel Laurel, botanical insecticide, brown planthopper

Abstract

Analysis of toxicity and anti-cancer potential of Majapahit (Crescentia cujete) leaf methanol extract using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test methodThe Majapahit plant (Crescentia cujete) is one of the plants in Indonesia which is known to have phenolic compounds, saponins, tannins, alkaloids, and terpenoids. Several types of compounds belonging to the phenol group are known to have anticancer activity. The study aimed to determine the toxicity of the methanol extract of the leaves of Majapahit using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method. Toxicity test was done using five concentrations of Majapahit leaf methanol extract, there were 500, 400, 300, 200, and 100 ppm. The Majapahit extract was then tested on Artemia salina L. shrimp larvae aged 48 hours. At each concentration, ten larvae were used with three repetitions. Larvae mortality data for each concentration of the extract would be used to carried out probit analysis to determine the LC50 value. Based on the results of the probit analysis of the mortality of shrimp larvae at each extract concentration, it could be seen that the LC50 value of the Majapahit leaf methanol extract is 642.877ppm. So, it means that the extract is toxic and has the potential to be developed as an anticancer because it has an LC50 value of 1000 ppm.

Abstract

Abstract

Synthesis of curcumin analogs (2.5-Bis((E)-4-Hydroxy-3-Methoxy Benzylidine) Cyclopenta-1-On) based on Claisen-Schmidt condensation using an acid catalyst and inhibition of glucosidase enzyme was carried out. The antidiabetic activity of curcumin analogs was carried out by the use of α-glucosidase enzyme from moldy rice (Oryza sativa). The curcumin analogs were synthesized by reacting the vanillin with cyclopentanone.  The structure of all products was confirmed by FTIR, GC-MS, 1H-13C-NMR spectrometers, and the activity enzyme. The results showed the curcumin analogs were yielded in 52.27%, respectively as yellowish-green solid. The inhibition test of the α-glucosidase enzyme showed that the curcumin analogs were the potential to inhibit the α-glucosidase enzyme with an inhibition percentage of about 94.26% in 5 mM.

Abstract

Waste cooking oil (WCO) resulted from the frying process with the same cooking oil repeatedly. The use of used cooking oil can pose a danger to the human body, and the continuous disposal of used cooking oil harms the environment and the sustainability of human life. This problem was found in Wates Village, Sumbergempol District, especially housewives who are also members of the Rukun Makmur KRPL in the village. This community service aims to provide socialization and training (education) in making soap made from used cooking oil. The method used in this activity is lecture and discussion. COVID and posttest are carried out before and after the activity, which is one form of evaluation. The activity results showed that counseling and training on soap making had provided new information and knowledge to KRPL mothers in Rukun Makmur, Wates Sumbergempol Village, Tulungagung Regency, and provided skills to make soap from used cooking oil. This activity has been able to be followed and carried out well by the participants.

Abstract

The beach is an attractive place to unwind from your daily routine. The beauty of the beach must always be maintained so that comfort can still be obtained for everyone who visits it. The beach becomes a comfortable place if cleanliness is maintained. Plastic waste, if any along the coast, can be carried by the waves into the ocean. Plastic waste brought to sea can be consumed by marine biota because marine biota cannot distinguish between plastic and food waste. This community service activity intends to inspire visitors (tourists), managers and traders at Balekambang beach to care about the environment. A well-preserved environment will be a legacy that will be left on the next generation. The survey results show that visitors understand the meaning of waste and are willing to dispose of waste in its place. DOI: https://doi.org/10.26905/abdimas.v5i2.3573
