Abstract

As we study higher education, the least we can do is contribute back to society. We need to apply the rule of ? Give and Take?. Inspired by our lecturer giving us support and encouragement. We, eight people, decided to visit an orphanage called ?Panti Asuhan Istana Yatim Al-Jufri? which located at sekupang as our class?s devotion target is in this area. We donate things such as food & drink, snack, stationery stuff and teaching the kids mandarin language based on our ability. We believe that even though we are not giving them much, but it?s better than no. right ? Seeing the kids smile and laughing is the best satisfaction we get from this implementation program. It may sounds like there?s no innovation, we do admit that. However, we thought that the outcome we get is far more important than innovation that we don?t even have any ideas.

Abstract

This study examines the lack of adequate knowledge of residents of Batam Block 3 Lubuk Baja about online taxes. The purpose of this study is to provide an introduction to online tax and to encourage citizens of Block 3 to participate in paying taxes as an Indonesian citizen (WNI). The data collection process was carried out by observing the needs and constraints of local residents, as well as through interviews with the head of RT 01 Block 3 (Mr. Irwansyah). The material obtained from interviews was transcribed and analyzed. The results of the analysis raised 2 themes discussed here: social support and the goal of participation. The study of these two themes is very useful for understanding how to optimally increase the knowledge and motivation of citizens in carrying out online tax payments.

Abstract

Having a purpose of providing all Indonesian students with cheap but qualified textbooks, the e-textbooks should be culturally inclusive, which are able to make the students engage with the texts, and later be motivated to learn. Ena (2013) and Wulandari (2019) found cultural biases in English e-textbooks for senior high schools in Indonesia, which could demotivate students from certain cultural groups, which were underrepresented or represented unfairly. Thus, aiming to elaborate to what extent diversity is represented in the action verbs of the e-textbooks studied, qualitative content analysis was chosen for this study. The reseachers were the main instruments, followed by categorizations and interraters. The results showed there was ethnicity bias. There was no Melanesian animal subjects using action verbs at all in all the e-textbooks and Melanesian human subjects never dominated any e-textbook, while Foreign subjects, who in reality are less in number than the Melanesian, dominated the e-textbook for grade X. Since there was ethnicity bias in the e-textbooks, all the parties involved in the creation of the e-textbooks should either vary the writer team’s ethnicities or vary the texts’ cultural settings and make them in line with the population rank of ethnicities in Indonesia.

Abstract

Carotenoids are fat-soluble pigments that have various benefits in health and beauty. The demand and market of carotenoids are increasing; thus, the faster and cheaper biological production of these pigments using microorganisms is desired. In this study, the optimum medium pH and nitrogen concentration for carotenoid production by Rhodosporidium (R.) paludigenum using orange peel extract as substrate were determined. The soluble sugars from orange peels were extracted using distilled water at 100 °C. The yeast inoculum was cultivated in Yeast Peptone Dextrose (YPD) media before fermentation. The independent variables in the fermentation factorial design included initial medium pH (5; 6; and 7) and nitrogen concentration (0; 1; and 1.75 g/L urea in the medium). The decrease in reducing sugar concentration and the increase in biomass dry weight during fermentation demonstrated carbon source consumption by R. paludigenum for growth and carotenoid production. On the sixth day of fermentation (D6), the culture was harvested for the total carotenoid extraction and determination. The highest total carotenoid yield (107.63 µg/g) was achieved by the treatment group with an initial medium pH of 6 without nitrogen supplementation. This result indicated the orange peel extract potential as a substrate for carotenoid production using R. paludigenum as a workhorse. This was the first reported research in natural carotenoid generation using R. paludigenum (strain InaCC Y-236) locally isolated in Indonesia as the producer and orange peel extract as the substrate. Thus, this research would enrich the microbial carotenoid exploration and waste valorization to value-added products at the same time. The study can then be developed further and upscaled for industrial applications.

Abstract

AbstractSince 17 Century, relation between States has been developing until today. In the process of the relationship, national from every country is one of the concern. National’s right is protected under international law especially in Vienna Convention 1961 concerning Diplomatic Relation and Vienna Convention 1963 concerning Consular Relation. Consular Notification is one of the rights that are protected for people who live in other countries. No one needs national protection more than someone who is accused at another country. Nowadays, many countries tend to violate that rule although they have ratified it. Many cases happened and submitted under the International Court of Justice can be the proves for it. Case Concerning Avena and other Mexican Nationals (Mexico v. United State of America) is one of the case that shows how important the rule of consular notification is.Keyword: Consular Relation, Consular Notification, National

Abstract

Rule of Law reflects a state’s quality. Rule of Law should play an active role in legal disputes. In actuality Decision of the Supreme Court 26/PID.SUS/2019/PN.PTI and Decision of the Supreme Court 378/PID.SUS/2017/PN.SMN show different verdicts. There are two verdicts – rehabilitation and jail time. From it’s benefits medical rehabilitation is very important for the victim. Rehabilitation is a legal act for narcotics abuse. Victims of narcotics abuse are not criminals but people who are ill physically and mentally. The verdict of rehabilitation is more suitable than the verdicts of jail time. Medical rehabilitation is an attempt done in order to recover, heal, and give mental guidance for victims of narcotics abuse. The practical implementation has been very different from the existing laws. Rule of Law can be done well if the practical implementation is also done well. This can be done through revisions of existing laws. The law enforcement has a no less important role to ensure the implementation of every existing law in the society. As a result, Indonesia will have a good, clear, and firm system of Rule of Law towards every legal problem.
