Abstract

The Bali Countryside Sidemen area holds great potential to be developed as an agrotourism destination that combines the charm of rural landscapes, traditional farming practices, and the local wisdom of the community. Located in Sukahet Village, Sidemen District, Karangasem Regency, this area has the opportunity to become a model of sustainable agricultural tourism that supports food security, environmental education, and economic empowerment of local residents. However, the development of this destination still faces several challenges, such as limited promotion, inadequate tourism infrastructure, underdeveloped attractions, and poor accessibility. This study aims to formulate a development strategy for community-based agrotourism. A qualitative approach was used, involving interviews with five key informants consisting of tourism actors and local farmers, supported by documentation and direct field observation. The analysis was based on four key tourism elements (4A): attraction, accessibility, amenities, and ancillary services, with a focus on the agricultural context. The results show that strengthening promotion, creating educational attractions such as planting and harvesting activities, processing local agricultural products, and providing environmentally friendly accommodations rooted in farming culture are strategic steps to unlock the area’s potential. The main recommendation of this study is the collaboration between farmers, tourism entrepreneurs, and village government to establish an inclusive and sustainable agrotourism system.

Abstract

Bali has become a leading destination for wellness tourism rooted in traditional healing practices, driven by global interest in holistic well-being and spiritual travel. This study employs a qualitative approach, incorporating field observations, interviews, literature reviews, and focus group discussions across Gianyar, Bangli, and Badung Regencies to explore how wellness experiences are socially and culturally constructed. Findings reveal four key domains—Fitness, Healing, Therapy, and Treatment—categorized into Soft Wellness (preventive, lifestyle-based) and Hard Wellness (restorative, spiritual). These practices reflect the interaction between local traditions and global wellness trends. Theoretical frameworks such as the Experience Economy, Cultural Capital, and the Global Wellness Institute’s Wellbeing Model are applied to analyze the co-creation and symbolic value of wellness experiences. Despite rapid growth, challenges persist, including limited regulation, a lack of professional branding, and insufficient institutional support. This study recommends strategic policy measures to strengthen governance, maintain cultural authenticity, and promote sustainable development of Bali’s wellness tourism sector.

Abstract

Abstract

Event-based tourism has become a key strategy in destination development. Nusa Lembongan, with its unique natural beauty, has significant potential for development as a tourism event destination. This analysis aims to assess the potential and challenges of this development using the 5A model framework (attraction, accessibility, amenities, activities, and ancillary services). The research uses observation, interviews, documentation, literature review, and data analysis. The findings of this research analysis shows that Nusa Lembongan excels in Attractions and Activities, with its underwater beauty, beaches, and mangrove forests ideal for ecotourism and water sports-based events. However, the island still faces significant challenges in the pillars of accessibility (limited sea transportation and road infrastructure), Amenities (lack of large-capacity MICE venues), and supporting services (limited medical facilities and waste management systems). Overall, Nusa Lembongan has strong potential to become a thematic event destination, but its development requires strategic improvements in infrastructure and supporting services. It is recommended to invest in the development of specific event facilities, improve sustainable environmental management, and promote events that are in harmony with the island's natural character, such as eco-tourism and wellness retreats.
