Abstract

The company has always prioritized cost reduction. In this study, the researchers aimed to decrease maintenance costs by actively eliminating expensive non-value-added processes. The study employed Process and Time Driven Activity Based Costing to integrate cost with the activities performed. By conducting maintenance value stream mapping, the researchers identified various forms of waste, such as centralized maintenance, ineffective data management, poor inventory management, inadequate maintenance, under-utilization of resources, and waiting time for maintenance resources. Several alternative improvement options were proposed, and the Pugh method was used to compare and select the most promising alternatives or combinations of alternatives. The third alternative, which involves conducting internal training and implementing standard operating procedures for maintenance technicians, supervisors, and machine operators, as well as integrating an IT system for maintenance and creating an equipment and spare parts inventory database, was chosen as the highest-ranking option. The results showed that this approach reduced processing time for administrative activities, lowered corrective maintenance costs, and improved maintenance efficiency for both preventive and corrective maintenance.

Abstract

In an era where digital transformation is increasingly imperative, many industries struggle to navigate the complexities of technological adoption and operational efficiency. Lean principles, which emphasize waste reduction and process optimization, provide a robust foundation for digital transformation, particularly in the chemical industry, where unique operational challenges exist. This research aims to develop an integrated Lean 4.0 readiness assessment tool to bridge the gap between leanness and Industry 4.0 readiness. The study begins with a literature review on existing lean and Industry 4.0 readiness measurement tools and integrates them to create a new framework, using the Indonesia Industry 4.0 Readiness Index (INDI 4.0) as a reference, tailored specifically to the chemical industry. Expert interviews are conducted to refine the assessment tool, ensuring alignment with real-world industry conditions and practical insights. A Delphi-based expert consensus method combined with a fuzzy approach for handling imprecision in indicator ratings is employed to validate the framework, resulting in five key dimensions and 86 indicators. By gathering expert input, the tool addresses the chemical industry’s specific challenges and simplifies readiness evaluation, helping companies assess their preparedness for digital transformation and identify areas for improvement. The resulting framework enables chemical companies to bridge readiness gaps and prioritize targeted enhancements. Furthermore, this tool has the potential to serve as a scalable model for other industries, fostering more efficient and strategic digital transformation aligned with Industry 4.0 objectives globally.

Abstract

The ongoing energy crisis underscores the pressing need for more efficient energy utilization, particularly in the transportation sector. In this regard, the shift from conventional fossil fuels to electric vehicles (EVs) is essential for achieving both environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. Several developing countries, including Indonesia, have introduced regulations to promote EV adoption. However, electric motorcycle sales remain stagnant due to persistently low adoption rates. The primary challenge lies in the limited success of commercialization efforts, which continues to hinder broader market penetration in Indonesia. This study aims to identify research opportunities that can support the commercialization of EVs in Indonesia and to explore the push and pull factors influencing this process. An exploratory approach is employed, incorporating bibliometric analysis using R 4.3.1, a scoping literature review, and in-depth interviews with EV experts. The bibliometric analysis highlights the considerable development potential of electric motorcycle commercialization. From in-depth interviews with eleven experts, forty-four influencing factors were identified: twenty-nine of which are newly emerging factors, and fifteen are already established in the literature. Among these, four pull factors were confirmed, while twelve push factors were consistently highlighted by the experts. “Inexpensive product price for consumers” emerged as the most dominant pull factor in accelerating electric motorcycle commercialization, whereas the provision of incentives was the most frequently emphasized push factor driving supportive commercialization policies.
