Abstract

Textile industry wastewater is a very complex pollutant-containing waste with high dye intensity, requiring proper and appropriate treatment. Membrane technology is one of the appropriate methods for treating textile wastewater due to several advantages such as environmentally friendly and biopolymer-based processing. Therefore, this review aimed to determine the effectiveness of membrane technology and provide information regarding the appropriate treatment of textile wastewater. The articles subjected to review were obtained from several journal sources such as ScienceDirect, Elsevier, Springer, Google Scholar, and national journals. The results showed that several membranes had been used in textile wastewater treatment, such as PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene), PES (Polyethersulfone), Polysulfone-Polyvinyl Pyrrolidone Blend Polymer Composite Membrane, CA (Cellulose Acetate), Cellulose Membrane of Sargassum Sp., polysulfone (PSF), Bacterial Cellulose Membrane, and cellulose acetate propionate (CAP). Furthermore, membrane technology was found to reduce dye pollutants in textile wastewater with the highest coefficient value of approximately 97%.

Abstract

The rapid rise in urbanization and waste production has significantly impacted the environment. Therefore, community-based waste management is a crucial approach for reducing the environmental impact of domestic and household waste. This community service project aims to promote environmental sustainability through community-based education on waste management. This initiative was carried out in Dech Charoen Village, Thailand, aiming to increase community awareness about the importance of sustainable waste management practices. This paper discusses the community service activities conducted in Dech Charoen Village and their impact on community empowerment and environmental sustainability. The activities included a sharing session on community-based waste management, outreach on the reduce, reuse, and recycle (3R) principle for inorganic waste, and practical outreach on processing organic waste using a composting machine. Results showed a considerable rise in awareness of waste management methods, with more than 90% of participants achieving a better understanding of waste segregation, recycling, composting practices, and the importance of community involvement.

Abstract

Pencemaran ion sulfat menjadi masalah serius dalam lingkungan, terutama akibat aktivitas industri seperti pertambangan dan pengolahan mineral. Tingginya konsentrasi sulfat dapat merusak kualitas air dan kesehatan manusia. Tujuan dari artikel ini adalah untuk mengevaluasi efektivitas material maju dalam menghilangkan ion sulfat dari air limbah. Metode yang digunakan mencakup studi literatur yang komprehensif, dengan fokus pada berbagai material seperti nanomaterial, komposit, dan resin penukar ion yang telah terbukti efektif dalam penghilangan sulfat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan ettringit dan polialuminum chloride (PAC) dapat mencapai efisiensi penghapusan sulfat hingga 90%. Selain itu, material seperti hidrokalumite dan resin penukar ion juga menunjukkan potensi yang signifikan. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa pemilihan material yang tepat dan pengaturan kondisi operasional, seperti pH dan waktu kontak, sangat berpengaruh terhadap efisiensi penghilangan sulfat. Oleh karena itu, penggunaan material maju menawarkan solusi yang lebih berkelanjutan untuk mengatasi pencemaran sulfat dalam industri, sekaligus mendukung pengelolaan air limbah yang lebih efektif dan ramah lingkungan. Artikel ini diharapkan dapat memberikan wawasan baru untuk praktik pengolahan air yang lebih baik di masa depan.

Abstract

Industrial wastewater generally contains heavy metalssuch as lead, cadmium, arsenic, nickel, chromium and mercury. Contamination of water with these elements is very dangerous and will pollute the environment, so a suitable waste water treatment is required. This review aims to find out the efficient methods of handling industrial wastewater and the benefits of biomass. Many scientific methods are used in this regard, including adsorption, chemical precipitation, ion exchange, electrochemical treatment, membrane filtration, coagulation and flocculation. However, some of these techniques have drawbacks such aswill produce a large amount of metal sludge, making it difficult to recycle metal, and the formation of toxic sludge or other wastes. Of all these techniques, adsorption with adsorbent biomasshas been widely known because it is an economical, effective and environmentally friendly processing technique, so this method is suitable for treating industrial wastewater. The use of biomass as an adsorbent is intendedto help reduce dependence on fossil raw materials and greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change.

Abstract

Hanamaza Pan and Bakery merupakan suatu usaha roti dan kue halal yang dirintis oleh warna negara Indonesia yang menetap di Gifu, Jepang. Sebagai salah satu home industry yang mengolah produk-produk berbahan organik, Hanamaza Pan and Bakery berpotensi tinggi menghasilkan limbah domestik berupa minyak jelantah. Salah satu cara untuk mengolah minyak jelantah adalah dengan memanfaatkannya menjadi produk yang lebih bermanfaat seperti lilin aromaterapi. Pelatihan teknologi tepat guna ini diharapkan dapat memberdayakan home industry tersebut dalam hal pengolahan limbah yang sifatnya berkelanjutan menjadi produk yang bernilai ekonomis. Berdasarkan evaluasi kegiatan pengabdian yang telah dilakukan, diperoleh hasil berupa peningkatan pengetahuan dan wawasan mitra terkait dengan daur ulang minyak jelantah sebesar 63,3% serta kenaikan pengetahuan wawasan mitra terkait dengan prosedur pembuatan lilin aromaterapi dari minyak jelantah sebesar 26,67%.
