Abstract

Human development is a key indicator used to assess the quality of a country's human resources. Although Indonesia's HDI has experienced a significant increase of 75.02 in 2024, inequality is still a pressing issue, especially in terms of gender representation in the workforce. This study aims to identify the influence of poverty, economic, health, employment and education factors on human development in Java Island by considering gender equality as a mediating variable. The data used in the study is limited to 119 districts/cities in Java Island and sourced from BPS publications, the Health Office and the Education Office. The novelty of this study lies in the use of the Finite Mixture Partial Least Square (FIMIX-PLS) approach with mediation effects which is rarely applied in human development research in Indonesia, as well as allowing the identification of latent population heterogeneity and region-based segmentation. The results of this method reveal two distinct district/city segments in Java, with Segment 1 dominated by the variables in this study that have significant direct and indirect effects through the mediation of gender equality on human development, while Segment 2 has characteristics that emphasize the effect of gender equality. Given these differences in characteristics, it is important that contextual and regional segmentation-based development policies are designed by local and central governments. Statistical segmentation approaches such as FIMIX-PLS make a significant contribution to more targeted policy making. By changing the type of intervention according to specific problems, the government can allocate resources more effectively. This supports the achievement of SDG-10 in reducing inequality.

Abstract

Survival analysis is used to study the timing of an event, such as recovery or death, in the context of medical data. One of the diseases that many people suffer from is stroke. Based on the survey results, the number of stroke sufferers in Indonesia reached 8.3% of 1000 people in Indonesia continues to increase every year, especially among the elderly. The research conducted aims to model the estimation of the type III censored Weibull distribution parameters with the Bayesian Linear Exponential Loss Function (LINEX) method. This study uses secondary data on stroke patients in the period January-November 2024 with a sample of 62 patients at the Haji Surabaya Regional General Hospital. Weibull distribution model with Bayesian approach using Linear Exponential Loss Function (LINEX) was applied to estimate the distribution parameters and survival function. The estimation results show that the parameter α is 6.32342 with an average hospitalization time of 5.9151646 days. MSE value is 0.000270555, which indicates that the estimation model is more accurate in predicting data for the length of hospitalization for stroke patients at the Haji Surabaya Regional General Hospital. The probability value of the survival function of stroke patients who have been hospitalized on the 5th day shows a probability of 82.4% so that no further hospitalization is needed, which indicates that the patient's health condition is improving. In addition, the hazard function analysis shows that the longer a patient is hospitalized, the greater the risk of the patient not recovering.

Abstract

Muhammadiyah 1 Trenggalek Elementary School is one of the leading private elementary schools in Trenggalek Regency that implements an innovative system in its learning and has a strong commitment to improving the quality of education. However, most of the teachers in this elementary school still lack understanding of the concept of statistics along with the application of technology to analyze student learning data, so that the evaluation of student learning outcomes becomes less than optimal. Therefore, this community service program is carried out to provide intensive training on basic understanding of statistics, the use of Microsoft Excel to process data, and the application of analysis results to improve teaching methods. This program was carried out through several stages, consisting of providing offline training and assistance to groups of teachers in applying the training results to student learning data. The evaluation results show an increase in teacher understanding of the training material provided, with evidence of an increase in the average pre-test score of 64.46 to 71.08 in the post-test. Thus, this community service activity can be said to have succeeded in increasing teacher competence in using Microsoft Excel as a means of analyzing student learning data, which is also a start to improving the quality of Muhammadiyah 1 Trenggalek Elementary School teachers.

Abstract

Abstract

Hepatitis is an inflammatory liver disease caused by viral infection and remains a major global public health concern, responsible for approximately 1.4 million deaths annually. Egypt is among the countries with the highest prevalence of Hepatitis C. To address this issue and support Goal 3 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this study applies a quantitative approach using secondary data to analyze factors influencing Hepatitis C infection in Egypt. Two statistical models Binary Logistic Regression and Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS) were compared, with the SMOTE method implemented to correct class imbalance. The dataset consisted of 608 patient observations, initially imbalanced at a ratio of 86.5:13.5, and were balanced to 52.6:47.4 after SMOTE application. The results revealed that the MARS model demonstrated superior predictive performance compared to binary logistic regression. All independent variables were found statistically significant (p < 0.05), except sex. Additionally, all odds ratios were less than 1, indicating a lower probability of Hepatitis C infection relative to non-infection. These findings highlight the relevance of statistical modeling and data-driven strategies in supporting preventive health measures.

Abstract

This study addresses the reliability assessment of solar-powered lighting systems using a partial step-stress accelerated life testing (ALT) model with Type-II censoring. The research aims to estimate the mean failure time and quantify the acceleration effect due to elevated stress. Secondary data from an experiment involving 31 lighting devices were analyzed. Initially, devices were tested at a normal temperature (293 K) until 16 failures occurred. Subsequently, the stress was increased to 353 K, and testing continued until all units failed or were censored. Under the assumption of an exponential lifetime distribution and a linear accelerated failure-time model, the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) method was applied for parameter inference. The results show that the estimated mean failure time under normal conditions is approximately 711.6 hours, which reduces to about 38.7 hours under accelerated stress, yielding an acceleration factor of 18.354. Furthermore, a 95% confidence interval for the mean failure time under normal conditions is between 460.2 and 1245 hours. The reliability and percentile life at various stress levels were also derived. This research provides a practical statistical framework for evaluating the reliability of solar-powered lighting devices, offering a more efficient alternative to conventional life testing methods.
