Abstract

This study aims to determine how implementing the problem-based learning (PBL) model has improved students' higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) and their interest in global warming material. This study employed a descriptive method intended to accurately describe a variable, phenomenon, or condition as it exists. A one-group pretest-posttest design was used in this study, with one classroom serving as the sample. The sample for this study was selected from class X-E of SMAN 1 Ngaglik in the 2023/2024 academic year, which consisted of 31 students, using a lottery-based random sampling method. A HOTS test was administered to measure the abilities in analysis, evaluation, and creation defined in Bloom's taxonomy to collect data. Furthermore, participants were required to submit an interest questionnaire. The interest questionnaire used indicators of interest, including 1) student interest, 2) the feeling of pleasure, 3) student involvement, and 4) student attention. Students' HOTS on global warming material showed a significant improvement, with an N-gain score of 0.67 and scores rising from 54.84 to 85, classified as moderate. Students' interest in global warming material increased from a score of 37.76 to 78.71, with an N-gain score of 0.66, also categorized as moderate. The results of the paired sample t-test on HOTS and student interest showed the same result, namely, Sig (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05. The paired t-test results and the percentage of normalized gain score, show that the PBL model can be used to significantly enhance students' HOTS and interest in global warming material. The results of this study provide teachers with practical suggestions for establishing innovative, meaningful, and rich learning environments that foster students' intellectual curiosity and improve their HOTS.

Abstract

Physics identity plays a significant role in shaping individuals’ careers and academic engagement in physics. This study aims to analyze the development of research on physics identity over the past decade using bibliometric analysis based on Scopus data. A total of 114 documents were collected, then filtered based on publication year (2014–2024), English language, and article type, resulting in 60 articles for analysis. This study examines publication trends, geographical distribution, and under-researched topics in physics identity. Using VOSviewer and Publish or Perish 8 software, the findings indicate a fluctuating increase in publications, with a predominant focus on gender issues and identity-forming factors such as self-efficacy, recognition, and motivation. However, the research of physics identity concentrated in the United States, highlighting a lack of studies in other regions. Additionally, efforts to address the physics identity crisis are still minimal. This study provides a comprehensive synthesis of the field and highlights the need for further research on alternative strategies to mitigate gender stereotypes and enhance physics identity, particularly in countries with low research contributions.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas pengaruh teknologi senjata api Cina terhadap kerajaan Majapahit pada abad ke-14 hingga ke-15 Masehi. Dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif berbasis kajian literatur dari jurnal, artikel, dan buku sejarah, penelitian ini mengungkap pengaruh teknologi senjata api terhadap kerajaan Majapahit serta dampak positif dan negatifnya. Teknologi senjata api berbasis mesiu, seperti meriam pao, meriam cetbang, Huo Qiang, dan Huo Qiu, diadopsi serta dimodifikasi untuk meningkatkan kekuatan pertahanan benteng dan armada laut kerajaan Majapahit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa inovasi ini memperkuat posisi Majapahit sebagai kekuatan maritim utama di Asia Tenggara. Namun, meskipun memiliki keunggulan militer, Majapahit tidak mampu mencegah keruntuhannya akibat konflik internal dan eksternal seperti, ketidakstabilan politik, dan ancaman dari kerajaan baru seperti kesultanan Demak, kerajaan Sunda, dan Kesultanan Malaka. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa teknologi maju tidak selalu menjamin keberlanjutan kekuasaan. Penelitian ini menekankan perlunya pengkajian lebih lanjut tentang sejarah teknologi senjata api Cina di kerajaan Majapahit.Kata Kunci: Senjata Api, Militer, Perkembangan Teknologi, Sejarah, Kerajaan Majapahit.

Abstract

Teknologi Informasi semakin berkembang pesat. Hal ini menyebabkan siapa saja dapat mengakses internet dengan mudah. Bagi anak-anak usia sekolah internet tentunya menjadi bagian dari kehidupannya sehari-hari baik yang tinggal di daerah maupun di perkotaan atau yang bisa kita kenal dengan generasi digital. Generasi ini dinamakan generasi digital karena dari mereka lahir sudah kenal dengan berbagai macam perangkat digital. Generasi ini akan memanfaatkan internet dengan cara yang positif tentu saja banyak sekali hal-hal dan informasi baik yang didapat seperti dalam bidang pendidikan, pengetahuan yang tersedia dari seluruh platform yang sangat mudah diakses.  Selain itu juga anak-anak dapat memanfaatkan internet untuk melatih otak dengan permainan-permainan yang edukatif. Pemanfaatan internet juga sebagai bagian dari komunikasi, sebut saja electronic mail, atau aplikasi-aplikasi pesan instan yang dapat mudah di unduh di internet. Selain itu juga internet digunakan sebagai media untuk terhubung dan bersosialisasi dengan cara daring, seperti aplikasi facebook, Instagram, youtube dan lain-lain. Seiring dengan perkembangan kemajuan dari teknologi internet dan kemudahan dalam mengakses data, maka tentu saja ancaman negatif dari internet sangatlah dekat. Mudahnya mengakses konten-konten pornografi, cyberbullying, judi, dan pelecahan pun tentu saja menjadi ancaman yang menakutkan yang mempengaruhi remaja saat ini, hal tersebut menjadi alasan perlunya diadakan pendekatan, pemahaman dan sosliasisasi penggunaan internet yang baik sehingga dapat mengatasi bahaya yang ada. Adapun manfaat yang diperoleh dari kegiatan Pengabdian Masyarakat melalui pelatihan Internet Sehat dan Aman Untuk Remaja di bawah binaan Panti Wisma Karya Bakti bisa dilihat dari hasil posttest pengetahuan mereka tentang internet sehat. Menurut peserta pelatihan, dengan diadakannya pelatihan ini mereka mendapatkan manfaat yang cukup besar sehingga mengetahui Batasan-batasan dalam mengakses internet. Para peserta awalnya menganggap link-link yang beredar dapat dengan mudah di akses tanpa ada bahaya konten, dengan pelatihan ini, para peserta lebih berhat-hati lagi dalam mengakses informasi yang ada di internet

Abstract

Purpose – As critical thinking is a key competency in science education, this study employs a meta-analysis to systematically evaluate the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in enhancing students' critical thinking skills. This study analyzed 21 articles published between 2017 and 2024. These articles specifically discuss the effectiveness of PBL implementation in enhancing students' critical thinking skills.Methodology – The selection criteria included peer-reviewed articles published between 2017 and 2024, which provided explicit numerical data (sample size, mean, standard deviation) and a direct focus on the impact of PBL on critical thinking skills. A random-effects model was chosen due to expected variability among studies, and the effect size was calculated using Hedges' g to ensure robust findings. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 29 to calculate the summary effect, analyze heterogeneity, construct a forest plot, and identify potential publication bias.Findings – The meta-analysis revealed a significant improvement in critical thinking skills for students who experienced PBL-based learning compared to conventional methods (summary effect = 0.57, 95% CI = 0.15-1.0, p = 0.01). This shows that 57% of learning with PBL models analyzed has a significant positive effect on students' critical thinking skills. The heterogeneity test indicated (I² value = 93,9% > 25%), suggesting moderate variability among the analyzed studies. Funnel plots and Egger's regression tests indicate no risk of publication bias.Contribution– These findings emphasize the importance of integrating PBL into science curricula to foster critical thinking skills. Educators should consider structured PBL frameworks, while policymakers could support teacher training initiatives to optimize implementation. Future studies may explore longitudinal effects and variations across different educational levels.

Abstract

This study discusses the digital curation in Unsoed Library Unit. Digital curation is an ongoing process of digital collection management activities. The purpose of this research is to know the process of management and handling of digital collection of thesis in terms of Digital Curation Center (DCC) Life Cycle Model. The benefits of this research are as material evaluation of the management of digital document objects, and as reference in the formulation of policies and legal basis needed in the management of digital collections in Unsoed Library Unit. This research uses descriptive qualitative method that is by doing depiction using word and language from perception and action performed by librarian. Based on the data obtained through interviews, expert observation and consultation, digital curation cycle already exists in Unsoed Library Unit. However, there is still a need to strengthen the legal basis, renewal of standard operating procedures, facilities, and understanding of digital curation.

Abstract

Assessment and evaluation of student learning outcomes are crucial aspects of education. Effective assessment requires well-designed evaluation test questions, one of them is multiple-choice questions. However, the quality of the multiple-choice questions made must be high. Quality questions are those that have undergone item analysis to assess the validity and reliability of the assessment results for students during the learning process. This study employed an evaluative research methodology with a descriptive quantitative approach. The research subjects involved 251 tenth grade students from two schools in Bombana Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province. The evaluation was conducted using an instrument consisting of 10 physics questions that were created and validated with the assistance of teachers from each school. These questions covered the topics of the nature of physics, the scientific method, and work safety. The purpose of this study is to analyze the quality of the physics questions to determine whether they meet the criteria or not. Data collection was carried out using the QUEST software and analyzed using the Rasch model. The analysis results showed that the 10 questions had INFIT MNSQ values ranging from 0.77 to 1.33, which are consistent with the Rasch model. Furthermore, the OUTFIT t values for all item questions were obtained at values less than or equal to 2.00, indicating that the questions can be considered usable and passable. The reliability estimate score for the items is 0.98, indicating that this test has high consistency and can be relied upon to accurately measure students' learning outcome.         Keywords: cognitive assessment, rasch modelling, Item response theory.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i2.pp671-685

Abstract

This study aims to obtain information on the improvement of conceptual understanding and the students' cognitive learning outcomes completeness through the application of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) with a reading guide strategy in the elasticity material at SMAN 2 Sumber Barito. This study uses a descriptive method. The instruments used include a conceptual understanding test administered at the beginning and end of each meeting, as well as a cognitive learning outcome test administered at the end of all meetings. The research sample consists of 42 students from class XI IPA. The results reveal that students' conceptual understanding of the elasticity material experienced a significant improvement, with an overall N-Gain score percentage of 61% in the medium category. The students' cognitive learning outcomes completeness classically reached 80.95%, with 34 students achieving individual learning completeness. ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh informasi mengenai peningkatan pemahaman konsep dan ketuntasan hasil belajar kognitif siswa melalui penerapan Problem Based Learning dengan strategi reading guide di SMAN 2 Sumber Barito pada materi elastisitas. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif. Instrumen yang digunakan meliputi tes pemahaman konsep yang diujikan pada awal dan akhir setiap pertemuan, serta tes hasil belajar kognitif yang diujikan pada akhir seluruh pertemuan. Sampel penelitian ini sebanyak 42 siswa kelas XI IPA. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa pemahaman konsep siswa pada materi elastisitas mengalami peningkatan yang signifikan, dengan persentase skor N-Gain sebesar 61% dalam kategori sedang. Ketuntasan hasil belajar kognitif siswa secara klasikal mencapai 80.95%, dengan 34 siswa mencapai ketuntasan belajar secara individu.

Abstract

This study aims to map the evolution of research on computational thinking (CT) within the context of science and technology, with a particular focus on science education and physics learning. Through a content analysis of a corpus of scholarly publications from 2015 to 2023, this study seeks to identify annual trends in research on computational thinking and computational thinking skills in the context of science and technology, with a deeper exploration of the context of science education and physics learning. A content analysis guide was employed as the research instrument. In synthesizing the articles, four main aspects were examined: (1) the number of publications per year, (2) research subject areas, (3) research types, and (4) the treatments and variables measured in computational thinking research in science education and physics learning. An analysis of the number of publications, research areas, methodologies, treatments, measured variables, and findings revealed a significant increase in interest in CT in 2022, particularly in the social sciences. Quasi-experimental research emerged as the dominant approach, with a focus on developing and evaluating learning interventions that integrate CT. The use of technology in computational thinking activities to enhance students' computational thinking skills in science education and physics learning was highlighted. The findings of this study have important implications for future research, such as expanding the diversity of research methodologies, delving deeper into CT instruments and data analysis techniques, conducting more in-depth studies on technology products designed to enhance computational thinking skills, and exploring a wider range of learning contexts.

Abstract

This research investigates the physics concepts embedded in the traditional musical instrument "Tamburu" of the Moronene tribe in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. The Tamburu, a traditional plucked string instrument made from layers of bamboo bark, serves as a fascinating case study for exploring physics concepts. The research aims to uncover the connections between the physics concepts applied to this traditional cultural instrument. The methodology combines observational analysis, video recording, and theoretical physics calculations to provide a comprehensive understanding of the sound waves involved in the Tamburu. The results reveal intricate connections between interrelated physics principles, demonstrating how traditional local wisdom can provide explanations for complex scientific knowledge. The research found several connections between physics concepts in the Tamburu, including the concept of sound sources, types of sound waves, frequency, tone (timbre), resonance, and open organ pipes. This research not only highlights the significance of the local culture of the Tamburu but also emphasizes its potential in the field of education as a means of teaching and understanding physics in real-world contexts. This research seeks to integrate the heritage of local wisdom into the educational framework to enrich learning experiences and introduce a deeper appreciation for indigenous knowledge systems.
