Abstract

Unggan weaving, an original cultural product of the Sijunjung people, especially in Unggan Village, is widely used as employee, traditional, and school uniforms once a week. However, the use of Unggan weaving in mathematics learning has yet to be widely explored. This research aims to reveal the mathematical elements of Unggan weaving as a learning vehicle more appropriate to students' culture. This research is qualitative research with an ethnographic approach. Data collection methods use in-depth interviews, documentation, and ethnographic notes. The interview subjects were Ernita, owner of Unggan Weaving (R-1), and Masniati, an employee of Unggan Weaving (R-2). Data analysis uses the results of interpretation and translation of the phenomena found, as well as based on the results of the informant's conception of the meaning and the informant's original language regarding the focus, which is combined verbally with the researcher's language after in-depth understanding through focus group discussions (FGD). The research results show that Unggan woven fabric contains mathematical elements of geometric transformation (translation, reflection, dilation, symmetry) and arithmetic number patterns. The results of this research can be recommended as material for developing school mathematics teaching materials based on local wisdom.

Abstract

This research is aimed to explore the cultural elements especially in Sasak architectures in Lombok Island such as a home living (Bale), worship building (masjid), lumbung (sambi) in ethnomathematics point of view. This research uses qualitative approach with cognitive (anthropology cognitive). The interviewees are the experienced custom leader and humanists who has conducted the research on Sasak society. Meanwhile, the data collection method used the participant, observation and documentation. Data analysis on this research is not only based on the researcher is interpretation but also the idea structure of the society. This research shows the evidence of sensitivity on the use of numbers practiced by Sasak ancestor long time ago in doing the measurement using their anthropometric ability (Ethnomathematics). The architecture products of sasak society also describe that sasak society is more focus on the process than the final products itself which describes the consistency in conducting role and cultural device which control the desire of individual construction.

Abstract

This study aims to develop Android-based learning media on the topic of curved surface geometry, named GeoFun App. The research method was a development research using the ADDIE model design. Participants in this study were ninth-grade students and mathematics teachers at one of the Islamic Junior High Schools (Madrasah Tsanawiyah) in East Lombok Regency, Indonesia, as well as two experts. The instruments used were media and material validation sheets, teacher and student response questionnaires, and learning outcome tests. Application validity analysis was conducted using Aiken’s V scale and the Likert scale. Absolute evaluation was used to test practicality, while the N-Gain method was applied to assess effectiveness. The research findings showed that the GeoFun App media met the validity criteria, with a validity score of 0.869 (material experts) and 0.844 (media experts), categorized as very valid. It achieved a practicality score of 60% from teachers (practical category) and 94.48% from students (very practical category). The result demonstrated an N-Gain of 76.3% and was categorized as effective. The GeoFun App possessed several unique superior characteristics, such as engaging assessments (quizzes, tests, and games), facilitating online and face-to-face learning, and integrating religious aspects (the use of Shalawat Nahdlatin and prayers on the initial display, as well as learning etiquette). Therefore, this study concluded that the GeoFun App met the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness, as it was tailored to student needs and learning difficulties and was Android-based, making it familiar to students. The GeoFun App thus provides an alternative that teachers can use to optimize students’ mathematical competence in learning curved surface geometry. This study recommends that future research continue to enhance the application's compatibility so that it can be used on lower Android versions. Keywords: ADDIE model, curved surface geometry, GeoFun App.

Abstract

Culture, with its diversity and unique customs, arts, and crafts, provides an identity for a region. This cultural uniqueness can be studied as part of learning resources. Ethnomathematics is a bridge to exploring mathematics that develops in society. Thus, this study seeks to analyze the frieze patterns, crystallographic patterns, and philosophical values in the subahnale woven fabric motifs in Sukarare Village. The method used in this research is the ethnographic method. Research data were collected through observation, literature study, and interviews with cultural practitioners, traditional leaders, woven cloth artisans, and humanists. The results showed that the motif (reragian) of the subahnale woven fabric was formed by a combination of geometric shapes: lines, triangles, rectangles, and hexagons. The geometric shapes are arranged using a mathematical model: translation, rotation, and reflection. The patterns formed are 4 frieze patterns, namely patterns 3, 4, 6, and 7. In addition, there are also crystallographic patterns, namely patterns p1, pm, and p4m.
