Abstract

Nursing students constitute a population that is particularly vulnerable to stress due to academic demands, clinical practice requirements, and complex psychosocial pressures. Poorly managed stress may adversely affect mental health, learning motivation, and academic performance. This study aimed to explore the levels of stress among students of the Faculty of Nursing at Sultan Agung Islamic University, Semarang. A descriptive study design with an exploratory quantitative approach was employed. The sample consisted of active students selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected using a stress-level questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Univariate analysis was conducted to describe the frequency distribution of respondents’ stress levels. The findings revealed that the majority of students experienced moderate stress, followed by mild and severe stress. Academic factors, workload, clinical practice demands, and time pressure were identified as the main contributors to stress. These results highlight the crucial role of educational institutions in providing psychological support programs and promoting adaptive coping strategies to enhance student well-being and support academic success.

Abstract

Scabies is a contagious skin disease caused by infestation of the mite Sarcoptes scabiei and commonly occurs in densely populated environments such as Islamic boarding schools. Poor personal hygiene behavior is a major risk factor that facilitates the transmission of scabies. Miftahul Huda Islamic Boarding School in Kendal reported a high number of skin disease complaints over the past three months, indicating the need for health interventions in the form of personal hygiene education to prevent and reduce scabies symptoms among students. To determine the effect of personal hygiene education on scabies symptoms among students at Miftahul Huda Islamic Boarding School, Kendal. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-test post-test approach. A total of 27 students were selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected using an 8-item scabies symptom questionnaire. Data analysis included descriptive analysis, Kolmogorov–Smirnov and Shapiro–Wilk normality tests, and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test due to non-normal data distribution. The mean scabies symptom score before the intervention was 7.85 and decreased to 0.00 after the personal hygiene education. The Wilcoxon test showed a Z value of −4.916 with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Personal hygiene education has a significant effect on reducing scabies symptoms among students.

Abstract

Depression is a common mental health issue among older adults, particularly those living in social care facilities due to limited social support, declining physical function, and reduced independence. These factors can adversely affect quality of life and increase the risk of physical and psychological complications. This study employed a cross-sectional design with 135 elderly respondents residing in Pucang Gading Social Care Home and Wening Wardoyo Home. A total sampling technique was used. Data were collected using demographic questionnaires, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), a chronic disease questionnaire, the Barthel Index, and the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15). Data analysis included univariate, bivariate using Spearman’s test, and multivariate analysis using logistic regression. Most respondents were aged 60–74 years (63.0%) and female (63.0%). Spearman’s test indicated significant correlations between social support (p=0.000) and independence (p=0.000) with depression levels. Chronic diseases showed a significant but very weak relationship (p=0.034). Multivariate analysis identified social support as the most dominant factor associated with depression (p=0.002). Conclusion social support and independence are significantly associated with depression levels among older adults living in social care homes, with social support emerging as the most influential factor

Abstract

The incidence of hypertension in the community has increased every year. The management of hypertension requires the optimization of the role of Posyandu cadres. This study aimed to describe the role of Posyandu cadres in the working area of the UPTD Puskesmas Pudakpayung in managing hypertension cases in the community. The regeneration of Posyanducadres has become one of the challenges addressed in this study. This study employed a descriptive quantitative design. The research was intended to provide an overview of the role of Posyandu cadres in hypertension management at a specific point in time without intervention. Data were collected using a questionnaire, with validity and reliability test results showing an r-value of 0.411 with a p-value of 0.05 and a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.965. Sampling was conducted using a total sampling technique. Data analysis was performed using univariate analysis. Based on statistical analysis, the roles of Posyandu cadres in the primary and secondary categories were more dominant than those in the tertiary category and were influenced by length of service and prior hypertension training history. Continuous empowerment is necessary to balance and strengthen the roles of Posyandu cadres in the primary, secondary, and tertiary categories.

Abstract

Background: Family adherence to tuberculosis preventive therapy (TPT) plays an important role in preventing tuberculosis transmission and progression among household contacts. The Health Belief Model (HBM) provides a useful framework for explaining how families perceive risk, severity, benefits, and barriers related to preventive therapy. However, evidence on factors associated with family adherence to TPT based on the HBM remains scattered across studies and has not been synthesized comprehensively. Objective: This systematic review aimed to identify and synthesize factors associated with family adherence to tuberculosis preventive therapy based on the constructs of the Health Belief Model. Methods: This study used a systematic review design. Literature searches were conducted in Google Scholar, PubMed, ProQuest, and ScienceDirect for articles published between 2019 and 2025 in English or Indonesian. The review included empirical studies that examined family-related adherence to tuberculosis treatment or preventive therapy and studies that used or reflected HBM constructs. Data were extracted using a structured form and synthesized narratively according to HBM domains and family-related adherence factors. Results: Eight studies were included in the final synthesis. The findings showed that family support consistently influenced adherence behavior in tuberculosis treatment and preventive therapy. Perceived benefits emerged as the strongest predictor of TPT acceptance, while perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived barriers, and self-efficacy were also significantly associated with adherence-related behavior. Knowledge and attitudes contributed to treatment adherence, and HBM-based educational interventions improved medication adherence, nutritional practices, and transmission prevention behavior. Conclusion: Family adherence to tuberculosis preventive therapy is a multidimensional behavioral outcome influenced by family support, HBM-related perceptions, knowledge, attitudes, and contextual barriers. The Health Belief Model provides a relevant theoretical basis for understanding and strengthening adherence in family and household contexts.

Abstract

Comfort in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) is crucial to accelerate the healing process during their stay in intensive care units (ICUs). Factors contributing to patient comfort are essential in providing comprehensive nursing care. This study aims to investigate the relationship among variables, including patient characteristics, emotional response, healthcare service, Islamic spirituality, spiritual meaning, and comfort in patients with CHD. A cross-sectional study was conducted, involving 110 respondents in the ICUs of hospitals across Central Java Province, Indonesia, from January to May 2023. The sample was taken using purposive sampling. The data were collected using questionnaires that had been modified under a permission from the authors. SmartPLS 3 with partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was employed to analyze the correlation among the variables. The result showed that patient characteristics showed significant correlations with emotional response (t=2.082, p=0.038) and spiritual meaning (t=3.142, p=0.002). Similarly, support significantly correlated with emotional response (t=4.032, p<0.001) and spiritual meaning (t=2.448, p=0.015). Healthcare service exhibited significant correlations with emotional response (t=9.485, p<0.001) and spiritual meaning (t=5.249, p<0.001). Emotional response was found to correlate with Islamic spirituality and spiritual meaning (t>1.96, p<0.05), while Islamic spirituality showed a significant correlation with spiritual meaning (t=2.727, p=0.007). Finally, spiritual meaning significantly correlated with comfort (t=6.119, p<0.001). In conclusion, this study demonstrated significant correlations among variables such as patient characteristics, support, healthcare service, emotional response, Islamic spirituality and spiritual meaning to enhance patient comfort in ICUs. Policymakers should pay attention to factors affecting patient comfort during their stay in ICUs, including physical, psychospiritual, sociocultural, and environmental comfort based on self-regulation.

Abstract

Background: Workload is a major occupational factor that contributes to employees’ job stress and may also impair sleep quality. Increasing evidence suggests that sleep quality is not merely an outcome of work strain, but may function as an important mechanism through which workload influences psychological well-being. However, the mediating role of sleep quality in the relationship between workload and employees’ job stress has not been systematically synthesized across occupational settings. Objective: This systematic review aimed to examine the mediating role of sleep quality in the relationship between workload and employees’ job stress and to synthesize current evidence on how sleep quality explains or modifies this association across employee populations. Methods: This study employed a systematic review design. Literature searches were conducted in Scopus, PubMed, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, and ClinicalKey for Nursing for articles published between 2015 and 2025. Studies were included if they involved employees or workers, examined workload or work-related stress, assessed sleep quality, and reported job stress-related outcomes. Study selection, data extraction, and quality appraisal were conducted systematically, and the findings were synthesized narratively because of heterogeneity in study designs, measures, and analytical approaches. Results: The search identified 2,264 records, and 12 studies were included in the final synthesis. The included studies consistently showed that higher workload or work-related stress was associated with poorer sleep quality across diverse occupational groups. Sleep quality emerged as a recurrent mediating factor linking occupational burden with adverse outcomes, including burnout, depressive symptoms, daytime dysfunction, and reduced well-being. Additional psychological mechanisms, such as rumination, anxiety, and depression, frequently strengthened this pathway, whereas physical activity, resilience, and social support appeared to buffer the negative effects. Conclusion: Sleep quality plays a significant mediating role in the relationship between workload and employees’ job stress. Interventions to reduce job stress should therefore address not only workload management, but also sleep health and related psychological factors in the workplace.
