Abstract

This study examines the integration of patriotic spiritualism into Islamic boarding school education as a model for fostering grassroots nationalism in Indonesia, with a case study at Sabilunnajat Islamic Boarding School in Ciamis. The research aims to understand how spiritual values are reformulated into educational practices that strengthen students’ national identity. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with kyais, teachers, students, and community leaders (N = 25), and document analysis of curriculum and activity archives. The data were analyzed through coding, categorization, and thematic interpretation using a phenomenological lens. The findings reveal that Sabilunnajat cultivates patriotism through spiritual habituation, disciplined learning, and the internalization of historical narratives of ulama and santri in Indonesia’s independence struggle. The novelty of this study lies in the concept of patriotic spiritualism as an alternative model of civic education that develops nationalism without military indoctrination. The research concludes that Islamic boarding schools function as grassroots agents of national identity formation by integrating faith-based education with civic values. The study implies that this model can inspire policymakers and educators to strengthen national character through spiritually grounded education.

Abstract

Abstract This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of using interactive map media in improving elementary school students' understanding of geography material. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a literature study, utilizing various recent sources from both national and international journals. The study results indicate that interactive map media, such as digital maps based on Google Earth and geographical learning applications, have a positive influence on students' understanding of spatial concepts, geographical location, and natural phenomena (Prastya & Maharani, 2023; Ramadhani & Kurnianto, 2025). Furthermore, these findings confirm that technology-based social studies learning can enhance students' learning motivation and spatial thinking skills, aligning with the research results of Dewi et al. (2024) and Novitasari & Miaz (2023), who emphasize that interactive visual media helps facilitate the understanding of abstract concepts. Critical analysis also shows that the use of digital maps can bridge the gap between theory and the geographical reality students face daily, as stated by Maulaya et al. (2025). Thus, the use of interactive map media is not only theoretically relevant but also has practical implications for improving the quality of social studies learning in elementary schools. This research recommends that teachers integrate interactive map technology with the curriculum to create educational, participatory, and contextual learning. Keywords : Interactive map media, geographical material, elementary school.

Abstract

Educational policy formulation in the digital era requires the precise selection of strategic instruments to ensure the effectiveness of institutional governance. This study aims to synthesize various theoretical perspectives on policy instrument typologies and evaluate their implications for contemporary educational management transformation. The method employed is a narrative literature review analyzing academic documents from reputable databases over the last ten years. Findings indicate that reliance on mandate-based regulatory instruments tends to create administrative rigidity that stifles pedagogical innovation. The integration of a policy mix that includes incentives and internal capacity-building is more effective at building organizational resilience. This article makes a theoretical contribution by offering a conceptual framework for adaptive governance responsive to the dynamics of the educational ecosystem.

Abstract

This research investigates the?integration of local wisdom-based reading materials into an effective problem-based learning model in enhancing university students’ reading comprehension. The study was inspired by the lack of cultural relevance of reading material often sourced from other countries and not aligned with ?students' backgrounds. A pre-experimental mixed-methods design was used with 33 students, who received the reading comprehension pre- and post-tests and an interview. Quantitative data were analyzed using paired-samples t-tests and N-Gain, while qualitative data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed an improvement in the post-test scores of students who used local wisdom-based materials, with a very high N-Gain, indicating that LKBKpBL based on PBL can be categorized as effective. Additional outcomes indicated improvements in motivation,?critical and reflective thinking, collaboration, and cultural identity. The research recommends that fostering local wisdom in PBL is not only helpful for enhancing understanding and perception but also for maintaining cultural insight and interaction. Educationally, the findings contribute to literacy education by presenting a culturally responsive, problem-based instructional framework that fosters students’ ability to relate reading to their cultural experiences, sustain higher learning outcomes, and maintain local value relevance in institutions of higher learning.

Abstract

Purpose – This study investigates how recontextualizing EFL reading instruction through local-wisdom-based Problem-Based Learning (PBL) supports students’ reading comprehension and learning experiences.Methodology – The study employed an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design to integrate students’ perceptions with their classroom experiences. Quantitative data were collected through a closed-ended Likert-scale questionnaire administered to 27 third-semester English Language Teaching (ELT) students, examining perceived support for reading comprehension across text understanding, inferential reading, critical reading, cultural relevance, and engagement. Qualitative data were gathered through three classroom observations, reflective journals, and in-depth interviews with three purposively selected students.Findings – Students perceived strong support for reading comprehension, particularly in cultural relevance, understanding main ideas, and engagement. Qualitative evidence indicates that familiarity with local narratives, traditions, and places reduced cognitive distance between texts and readers, enabling more focused meaning construction in English. Problem-based tasks further positioned reading as a purposeful, collaborative activity focused on solving contextualized problems rather than answering isolated comprehension questions. However, support for inferential and critical reading was perceived more unevenly, reflecting differences in linguistic readiness and analytical confidence. Integration of quantitative and qualitative findings demonstrates that positive perceptions of reading support were grounded in culturally familiar, problem-oriented, and socially mediated reading experiences.Contribution – The study concludes that local-wisdom-based PBL fosters a coherent EFL reading environment that anchors comprehension and engagement while gradually supporting the development of higher-order reading processes.

Abstract

The goal of this study was to see if a snowball throwing cooperative learning strategy could improve students' English learning outcomes in from of writing an advertisement. Classroom Action Research is the research method used in this study. The actions are divided into two cycles, each with four stages: preparation, implementation, observation, and reflection. The study was carried out at SMPIT Al Muhsinin with 24 students, 10 males and 14 females. Data gathering procedures are observations, interviews, assessments, and documentation. the findings of the research shows that snowball throwing cooperative learning strategy has a good influence on enhancing student learning outcomes, as seen by an increase in student learning completion in each cycle, which is 56.25 percent in cycle I and 81.25 percent in cycle II. As a result, the classical completion of pupil learning has been attained. The Snowball Throwing methodology, when used collaboratively, can boost students' learning motivation and cooperation when learning English.
