Abstract

This study discusses the direction and strategy of developing character education to change the personality and disposition of students towards a more religious, disciplined, and moderate direction, especially those who study at integrated Islamic boarding schools in Aceh Besar using the taghyir approach.  This term itself means changes that are made in earnest to shape the personality of students. The study was conducted at four integrated Islamic boarding schools in Aceh Besar; Pesantren Al-Manar, Pesantren Al Falah Abu Lam U, and Pesantren Oemar Diyan. The paradigm of interpretation with a character education approach becomes a framework of thinking in this study. This study uses qualitative research methods, by selecting several informants who are directly involved in the world of education in integrated Islamic boarding schools, to get an emic perspective and observe directly the process of character change carried out. The results of the study show that character building with taghyir methods and models has been practiced by each of the integrated pesantren is almost uniform, considering that the third qibla of pesantren is Gontor which is the basis of the development of modern pesantren in Indonesia. The locus of character change is prioritized on changing attitudes in the context of religion, discipline, respecting differences, and upholding attitudes as a student. Character changes tend to be easily developed among female students, given their attitude of obeying every pesantren regulation. In addition, the example of teachers is the main key in the application of taghyir in the most popular Islamic boarding schools for the formation of the character of students.  Taghyir in Pesantren was developed with an emphasis on the value of religious character, and the role of teachers and parents in changing and fostering the character of students to foster the character of students who live in integrated Islamic boarding schools in Aceh Besar.

Abstract

This study examines the role of Muslim families in children's education regarding environmental ethics. It aims to understand how Muslim parents' integration of Islamic values such as amanah, caliphate, and tawhid can effectively instill awareness and pro-environmental behavior in children. This research explores various parenting methods, including stories from the Qur'an and Hadith, practical activities like gardening and recycling, and discussions and reflections on environmental issues using the literature review method. The findings reveal that children educated with this approach exhibit high ecological awareness and proactive behavior in ecological conservation. However, challenges such as lack of knowledge and resources and differences in cultural and geographical contexts affect the effectiveness of this education. The study concludes that there is a need for support from formal education institutions and communities to strengthen environmental education at home. With the right approach and adequate support, environmental education based on Islamic values has excellent potential to form a generation that cares about the environment. This research provides important insights for developing holistic environmental education programs rooted in religious values.

Abstract

Human rights and Islamic law are two distinct sources of law with the common orientation of upholding the dignity of human beings. This study aimed to explore the compatibility of the two to avoid any conflicts and to ensure legal development that considers both human rights values and Islamic law, particularly in Aceh where Islamic law is implemented. The study began by asking two fundamental questions: how are human rights and Islamic law compatible in the context of legal development in Aceh? And how do interfaith figures in southwest Aceh view the compatibility of human rights and Islamic law? The study utilized qualitative research methods with a phenomenological approach and an interpretive paradigm, and it concluded with a continuous qualitative narrative analysis from the start of the research until its completion. The research findings indicate that human rights and Islamic law have been incorporated into the formulation of every law and can accommodate all segments of society in Aceh, both in terms of religion and humanity. Additionally, human rights and Sharia law in Aceh have found a point of convergence that is supported by the acceptance of cross-religious communities, particularly in southwestern Aceh. Thus, this research suggests that human rights and Sharia law are not in conflict with each other because they share the same orientation of respecting the dignity of humanity.

Abstract

The implementation of Islamic law in Aceh over the past two decades has not only reflected the enforcement of Sharia but also illustrated the cultural and political dynamics of Acehnese society. As a region rich in customary law traditions and social pluralism, the response of Acehnese communities, particularly in multicultural border areas, to violations of Islamic law and its existence varies widely. Islamic law in Aceh is often interpreted through the lens of political identity and local culture, while the maqashid sharia values, such as the protection of life, property, and security have yet to be fully integrated into daily practices. This study employs an anthropological approach with qualitative methods. Data collection was conducted through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and narrative analysis of the experiences and perspectives of local communities. The study focuses on how communities construct, understand, and respond to Sharia as part of their social lives. The findings reveal that border communities in Aceh perceive Islamic law not only as a religious rule but also as a political identity symbol to reinforce their social standing, including in rejecting the construction of non-Muslim places of worship. However, the study also highlights a gap in understanding and applying maqashid sharia, attributed to limited socialization and cross-cultural dialogue. Nevertheless, Islamic law remains respected as a crucial element of the social structure, although its interpretation is often situational and contextual.

Abstract

The professional development of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers is crucial to enhancing the quality of PAI learning in schools. One effective means to support their professional growth is through the utilization of technology as a learning medium and information source. This article aims to explore the use of technology by PAI teachers in their professional development, focusing on three key aspects: (1) The Importance of Integrating Technology in Teacher Professionalism; (2) Types and Functions of Technology Used by PAI Teachers; (3) Challenges Encountered by PAI Teachers in Advancing Professionalism through Technology. The research methodology used the qualitative method with the literature review approach, encompassing data collection and analysis from diverse sources such as journals, books, reports, and websites. The findings reveal that PAI teachers in Indonesia employ various technologies, including computers, laptops, smartphones, tablets, internet connectivity, social media platforms, applications, and software, for multiple purposes like information retrieval, communication, collaboration, content creation, presentation, and assessment of learning. The use of technology among PAI teachers yields several advantages, including the enhancement of knowledge, skills, motivation, creativity, networking opportunities, and learning resources. However, they face challenges related to limited infrastructure, access, costs, and support. Moreover, there's a lack of readiness, competence, and awareness regarding ethics and security among these educators. PAI teachers encounter difficulties, obstacles, and risks such as network disruptions, viruses, malware, spam, phishing, hacking, cyberbullying, and plagiarism. The challenges of utilizing technology for teacher professional development encompass skills, attitudes, infrastructure, and ethical considerations. Therefore, PAI teachers must possess adequate competence and readiness to integrate technology into their professional development.

Abstract

This study examines the contribution of aqidah education to preventing juvenile delinquency in Islamic schools through the literature review method. Aqidah education is considered necessary in shaping students' positive character, spiritual awareness, and religious identity, all of which play a role in reducing deviant behavior. Data was obtained from various relevant journal articles in the last ten years. The study results show that aqidah education effectively strengthens students' moral and ethical values, such as honesty and responsibility, and increases spiritual awareness that helps self-control. In addition, aqidah education also builds positive characters, such as discipline and empathy, and strengthens religious identities that make students more firm in Islamic principles. These findings underscore the importance of developing relevant aqidah education curricula, increasing student involvement in spiritual activities, and teacher training in teaching aqidah. Thus, aqidah education significantly prevents juvenile delinquency and forms students with character and integrity through Islamic teachings.
