Abstract

Instructional media that meet students' needs have a positive impact on the learning process. Tutorial videos in learning facial makeup photography have become a popular media choice among students. This study aims to determine: (1) the results of developing tutorial video media; (2) student learning outcomes; and (3) student responses to the media. The research was conducted using the 4D R&D model and involved 34 students of grade XI at SMK Negeri 3 Probolinggo as respondents. The results include: (1) the development of learning media through the stages of define, design, develop, and disseminate, which has gone through feasibility testing. The results showed an average score of 3.83 from material experts, 4.43 from media experts, and 4.83 from language experts, all categorized as very good; (2) the cognitive learning outcomes achieved an average score of 84.94, while the psychomotor domain scored an average of 86.05, measured through tests after using the tutorial video; and (3) student responses to the tutorial video reached 88%, indicating that the video is highly suitable as a learning aid for black-and-white facial makeup photography. Based on the validation results from material, media, and language experts, the tutorial video developed through the 4D stages has a very high level of feasibility as a learning medium. Students’ learning achievements, both in cognitive and psychomotor domains, showed improvement with scores exceeding the standard mastery level. Additionally, the student response of 88% indicates that the video tutorial is highly effective and appropriate for use in facial makeup photography learning.Keywords: Media development, Video Tutorial Learning Media, Photography Makeup.

Abstract

Education is a systematic effort to create an active, participatory, and meaningful learning process. This study has three main objectives, namely: (1) to determine the level of implementation of the inquiry learning model in learning activities; (2) to identify student learning outcomes after the model is implemented; and (3) to reveal student responses to the process of implementing the inquiry learning model on acne facial skin care competencies at SMK Labschool UNESA Surabaya. The type of research is One Group Pretest and Posttest Design. The subjects of the study were 34 students. Data were collected using observation methods in the form of the implementation of the learning process, tests in the form of cognitive tests and student response questionnaires. The results of the study obtained (1) the implementation of the inquiry learning model obtained an overall average of 3.85 categorized as very good, (2) hypothesis testing with a Sig. value (2-tailed) obtained 0.000 <0.05, so it is said that the inquiry learning model has a significant effect on increasing student learning outcomes and (3) student responses showed a mean of 94% in the very good category. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that the application of the inquiry learning model has a positive effect on improving student learning outcomes. In addition, student responses to the competence of acne facial skin care are classified as very good, which shows that the inquiry model is able to create a more effective, interesting, and appropriate learning process for students' needs. Abstract

Lembu Suro is a character from Javanese mythology depicted as a half-human, half-bull figure with angry, powerful, and mystical characteristics. Visualizing this character requires an artistic approach that is not only strong in aesthetics but also capable of expressing cultural narratives emotionally. The technique used in this study is prosthetic-based Special Effects Makeup (SFX Makeup). This research aims to: (1) produce a Special Effects Makeup design for Lembu Suro that reflects the physical and emotional characteristics of the Javanese mythological figure, particularly the expression of anger; (2) determine the realization of the Lembu Suro character using liquid latex; and (3) assess respondents’ evaluations of the character's visualization. The method employed is Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE model, which includes five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The design was validated by three experts (Makeup artistry, fine arts, and SFX Makeup), while the realization was assessed by 30 trained respondents in character Makeup. The results showed that the first design was selected with a feasibility percentage of 96%, indicating its ability to reflect the physical and emotional traits of the mythological character, especially the expression of anger. The realization process involved lifecasting, sculpting, molding, prosthetic application, painting, and finishing. Respondents' evaluation of the character realization received an average percentage score of 88,67%, categorized as “Highly Appropriate,” indicating that the character realization aligned very well with the designed concept. This study demonstrates that the use of liquid latex in SFX Makeup techniques is effective in visualizing mythological characters emotionally and narratively, and it can serve as a medium for preserving local culture through a modern artistic approach based on character Makeup. Abstract

Abstract This research focuses on exploring the application and enhancement of the discovery learning approach to improve students' academic results in manual facial care at SMKN 1 Buduran. The motivation for this research comes from students' unsatisfactory final learning achievements, which stem from their limited engagement in the educational process. The methodology employed in this study is Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted in two stages: planning, execution, monitoring, and evaluation. A total of 34 students from the Grade X Skin Beauty Program participated in this study. Data collection methods included observation sheets, assessments of learning outcomes, and documentation review. Implementing the discovery learning approach has led to increased student participation and comprehension, as shown by the rise in the average learning outcome scores from pre-cycle to cycle II. The outcomes related to facial care topics that were not closely tracked have been positively affected by the discovery learning technique. Abstract

Hair shine spray is widely used as a styling product that relies on silicones for its shine effect. However, the proportion of silicones is crucial; too high can make hair feel heavy, while too low reduces product performance. This quantitative experimental study aimed to compare the effectiveness of silicone proportions in Formula 1 and Formula 2 on shine results, aroma, color, and preference level. Formula 1 used a different silicone proportion than Formula 2. Testing was conducted through an organoleptic test by 30 panelists and analyzed using the Independent Sample t-Test. Statistical results showed no significant difference between Formula 1 and Formula 2 in all tested aspects (p > 0.05). This suggests that the difference in silicone proportion did not yield a statistically significant effect on sensory quality. Nevertheless, descriptively, Formula 2 obtained a higher average score for all parameters, including shine (3.68) and preference level (3.71), compared to Formula 1. Thus, Formula 2 is superior in terms of consumer perception and preference.

Abstract

The development of digital beauty trends has influenced makeup techniques that emphasize eye dimension and a youthful appearance. This study aims to compare the results of the Douyin makeup look on monolid and double eyelid eye shapes. The research employed an experimental method using two models, with evaluations conducted by 30 observers using a Likert-scale observation sheet. The results indicate that monolid eyes obtained an average score of 3.45, while double eyelids achieved a higher average score of 3.60. The highest scores for both eye shapes were found in the aspect of overall visual harmony, whereas the lowest scores were observed in color gradation and soft-focus effects. The Independent Sample T-Test revealed a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05). In conclusion, double eyelid eyes produce more optimal eye makeup application results due to the presence of an eyelid crease that facilitates blending and dimensional formation. These findings may serve as a reference for makeup artists in selecting application techniques according to eye shape characteristics. Keywords: Douyin makeup look, monolid, double eyelids

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the factors influencing the interest of makeup students at Surabaya State University in choosing the profession of makeup artist and to determine the most dominant factor influencing their interest. This study employed a quantitative approach with an associative approach. The independent variables included social factors, personal factors, psychological factors, and intelligence. The dependent variable was the interest of UNESA makeup students in the profession of makeup artist. Data analysis used the Principal Component Analysis method. The results showed that four main factors influenced the interest of makeup students at Surabaya State University in the makeup artist profession: social factors, personal factors, psychological factors, and intelligence factors. These four factors were interconnected and simultaneously contributed to the formation of student interest. Personal factors were identified as the most dominant factor influencing UNESA makeup students' interest in the profession of makeup artist, contributing 81.863%. Students who have a personal interest or passion in the field of make-up show a greater tendency to consider the profession of Make Up Artist as their career choice.Keywords: interest of students, makeup artist
