Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to produce an animation video with the main goal of helping elementary school children to understand English learning material, especially in the Covid-19 pandemic situation, which requires online learning. The novelty in this research is the making of English-learning animation videos using Melayu Bangka as the language of instruction. This study uses the Research & Development method with the Borg & Gall research steps, namely Potential and Problems, Data Collection, Product Design, Product Revision, Product Trial, Design Revision, Design Validation, Trial Usage, Product Revision, and Implementation. This research produced a learning video with nine sequences. Sequence 1 contains the opening, sequence 2 contains an introduction from Dini and Philip, sequence 3 contains songs sung by Philip and imitated by Dini, sequence 4 contains 'Recitation,' sequence 5 is a practice question, sequence 6 Dini fills in the blank spaces that Philip has given her, sequence 7 contains 'Sentence Formation,' sequence eight contains closing, and sequence 9 contains credit titles. This learning video goes through the Effectiveness Test with the results; namely Paired Samples Test showed that Sig. (2-tailed) of 0,000 < 0,05, which explained that there is an improvement between the results of learning English using video in the Pre-Test and Post-Test results. Independent Samples Test result showed Sig. (2 tailed) 0,011 < 0,05, which explained that English learning animation video using the Melayu Bangka language as the instruction could increase students learning outcomes. Similar research can be further developed related to learning English using regional languages as the language of instruction.

Abstract

This study examines literary works in the form of films via a sociological approach. The purpose of this study is to describe the major characters’ characterizations and define the different kinds of social interactions in Peter Sohn’s 2023 film Elemental: Forces of Nature. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study described sources and information as research objects, such as dialogue or transcripts and movie stills. This study made use of Tischler's social interaction theory (Nonverbal Behavioral Interaction, Exchange Interaction, Cooperative Interaction, Conflict Interaction, and Competitive Interaction) as well as Petrie and Boggs' characterization theory (Appearance, Dialogue, External Actions, Reactions from Other Characters). 32 social interaction data points were gathered for this study, which showed how social interactions influenced the main character's description based on her words, actions, and behaviors. First, two data were reflected in characterization through appearance, four data were reflected in characterization through external activities, and three data were reflected in characterization through other characters' reactions in social interactions that took the form of nonverbal behavioral exchange. In addition, social contacts in the form of exchange encounters revealed that two data were represented in characterization through other characters' reactions, four data were reflected in characterization of external activities, and five data were reflected in characterization through dialogue. Subsequently, five data were represented in characterization through external actions, and one data was reflected in characterization through discussion in the form of cooperative social engagement. Lastly, social interactions in the form of conflict interaction revealed two data represented in appearance characterization, three data reflected in dialogue characterization, and one data reflected in other characters' reactions. This investigation did not find any competitive interaction. According to the study's findings, the primary character's characterization varies as a result of the social interactions in its environment.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the type of tense used in the lyrics of the song “Heaven” by Lyodra Ginting and Calum Scott. The research method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive research method. The data used in this study came from the lyrics of the song “Heaven,” which Calum Scott wrote and sang by himself and Lyodra Ginting. The researcher uses the theory of grammar and style in Stylistics to analyze the tenses selection in the song lyrics data. The study results show that this song’s lyrics predominantly use the simple present tense, and the rest use the present continuous tense, present perfect continuous tense, simple past tense, past continuous tense, and past future tense. There are reasons behind the songwriter’s tense selection. The tense in the song is dominated by simple present tense to express a habitual use indicating a generalization over a set of times. Abstract

Effective technology integration in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching requires teachers to develop strong Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK). In Indonesia, where teacher education programs increasingly emphasize digital learning, understanding pre-service EFL teachers’ self-concept of TPACK is crucial for assessing their readiness before entering the profession. This study examines the TPACK profile of Indonesian pre-service EFL teachers, identifying their strengths and areas for improvement in applying technology to language instruction. The study involved 111 final-year undergraduate and first-year master's students who had completed teaching practice but had no formal teaching experience. Data were collected using a TPACK survey and analyzed through descriptive statistics to identify patterns in their TPACK mastery. Findings reveal that pre-service teachers are confident in their content knowledge (CK) and basic technological skills (TK). Still, they struggle with the full integration of technology into pedagogy (TPK), pedagogical adaptability (PK), and leadership in TPACK. While they acknowledge the importance of technology in teaching, gaps persist in their ability to select and apply diverse technologies effectively in classroom settings. Additionally, they face challenges adapting teaching strategies to different learners and assessing student understanding in varied ways. Their leadership in supporting peers with TPACK integration was also limited. These insights underscore the need for curricular enhancements in teacher education programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, focusing on practical applications of TPACK, deeper technological and pedagogical training, and leadership development to better prepare future EFL educators for technology-enhanced instruction.

Abstract

Political parties are a forum for Indonesian people from various ideological backgrounds as channels for the aspirations of a pluralistic society. The party's ideology is embodied in the vision and mission that the party aspires to when domination is obtained after the General Election is held. In this research, the anthem lyrics of the top three political parties, based on the 2019 legislative elections, were taken as the data and studied through a stylistic approach at the lexicogrammatical level to figure out the ideology in the realization of the vision and mission of the political parties. The method of the analysis applied descriptive qualitative through transitivity analysis in order to reveal the lexical and grammatical construction in the lyric. The typical processes used in each anthem characterized the cognitive frame of how the political parties set their vision and orientation towards the nation goals. It was found that the use of stylistic devices came in low frequency, including epizeuxis, parallelism, imagery, metaphor, symbolism, asyndeton and anaphora. The construction of clauses in the anthem lyrics has a significant impact in expressing the goals of political parties ideologically, so that the results of this study are expected to be an alternative reference that provides a paradigm for the voting community during the election period

Abstract

Abstract

The Bangka Malay language, which is a Malay-Polynesian language family, has dialect variations with heterogeneous sub-dialects within it, and one of them is Sungailiat dialect. The purpose of this study is to focus on documenting prosodic features of Sungailiat dialect as one of the dialects in Bangka Malay language. This research is a qualitative research with research stages applying phonetic experiments using a practical phonetic and phonology approaches developed by Collins and Mess (2019). Prosodic features include speech intensity, duration, and intonation. Data collection was carried out through a process of observation, interview, and recording of respondents who are native speakers of the Sungailiat dialect. The data were processed by using voice analyzer software Praat version 6.3.03 to obtain accurate measurements of intensity, duration, and intonation. The results of the analysis show some variations in lexical entries, particularly from the elder informants. Intensity is marked by the oscillation of intensity contours and the frequency densities since the speech flows in co-articulation effect. That means that the adjacent vowels or consonants interchange to form the speech dynamics. Speech intonation in Sungailiat dialect is identical with accentuations of initial syllable, particularly when addressing someone. Imperative mood is prone to be in offering form rather than in command. In speech duration, elder informants are likely to show the whole prosodic variables particularly, as in the flow of their speech in higher pace, and more accented points in intonation contours. Interference of culture in daily communications is believed to shape Sungailiat dialect as it is shown in the prosodic analysis.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the role of Bangka Island’s folklore as an element of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) in shaping, promoting, and sustaining local tourist destinations. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research integrates semi-structured interviews, field observations, and document analysis conducted across three folklore-associated sites: Batu Rusa, Dempu Awang, and Pantai Penyusuk. Narrative mapping and thematic analysis reveal that each site presents varying degrees of narrative richness and cultural embodiment. Batu Rusa demonstrates the strongest integration of folklore into cultural practices, featuring layered narratives, rituals, and community traditions that reinforce place identity. Dempu Awang, anchored by a single hero legend, shows strong symbolic potential but limited cultural activation, while Penyusuk Beach offers a thin narrative layer overshadowed by its natural scenic appeal. The findings indicate that folklore enhances destination identity, deepens visitor engagement, and serves as cultural capital for tourism development. However, institutional utilization remains limited due to the absence of structured storytelling programs and interpretive tourism infrastructure. This study concludes that Bangka Island holds significant potential for literary and folklore-based tourism, and greater integration of ICH within tourism planning could strengthen cultural preservation and support sustainable destination development.
