Abstract

The aim is to find the learning facilities' impact on students' preparation on the TOEFL test. Students must take the TOEFL test as one of the requirements for admission to universities, scholarships and job vacancies. The research approach is quantitative, and the research method is a survey. The population are ninety students from English Department Study Program, STKIP Al Maksum, who already took the TOEFL test; the sample were fifty-three students, and the author used random sampling to choose the sample. The data collection is from the questionnaire, which was analyzed through descriptive analysis as the data analysis technique. The result is that learning facilities consisting of large and comfortable classrooms, presentation equipment, books, computers and the internet influenced students' preparation for the TOEFL test. The average score was above 50% among the questions. Workshops and seminars also support students to build confidence and readiness in following the TOEFL test. In conclusion, adequate learning facilities can support students' preparation for taking the TOEFL test.

Abstract

This research employs critical discourse analysis (CDA) to examine a news article titled "KPU Chief Rebuffs Allegations of Bias during VP Debate" from the Jakarta Post, focusing on the transition from print to online media or E-Paper. In this research, the two main methods used to collect data are documentation via the Jakarta Post e-paper news page and content review. This approach provides the advantage of exploring information in depth and comprehensively related to the phenomenon or event that is the focus of the research. Utilizing Teun A. van Dijk's CDA framework, the analysis encompasses macro, superstructure, and micro structures. The macro-structural analysis reveals the social and political context, identifying social groups and emphasizing narrative importance. The critical discourse superstructure analysis delves into linguistic patterns, representations of power, and strategic language use. Finally, the micro-structural analysis explores word choice, grammar, writing style, and sentence structure to understand how language constructs arguments and responds to accusations. Through these lenses, the study provides a comprehensive understanding of how the news shapes and reflects social and political dynamics, contributing valuable insights into media discourse surrounding political events in Indonesia.

Abstract

Artikel ini menggambarkan program pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang dilaksanakan dengan mendampingi guru-guru di SMA Swasta Tunas Bangsa dalam pengembangan e-modul pembelajaran berdiferensiasi dengan menggunakan FLIP PDF Professional. Dalam era digital saat ini, kebutuhan akan sumber belajar yang inovatif dan dapat disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan masing-masing siswa menjadi semakin penting. Penggunaan FLIP PDF Professional memungkinkan guru untuk menciptakan e-modul yang interaktif, mudah disesuaikan, dan menarik untuk siswa. Program pendampingan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi guru dalam merancang e-modul yang efektif, memaksimalkan potensi FLIP PDF Professional, serta memfasilitasi pembelajaran yang berdiferensiasi sesuai dengan kebutuhan dan kemampuan setiap siswa. Hasil dari program ini menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam keterampilan guru dalam pengembangan materi ajar dan penerapan strategi pembelajaran berdiferensiasi melalui e-modul, serta meningkatnya keterlibatan dan antusiasme siswa dalam proses pembelajaran.

Abstract

Actors in their business accounting records. This research has produced a research product in the form of a simple android-based accounting application. The simple android-based accounting application that was developed can be declared suitable for use if the media is valid. It is said to be valid if it has been validated by material experts and media experts. Making this simple android-based accounting application uses research and development (R&D) methods using the ADDIE development model which consists of 5 stages, namely: 1) Analysis; 2) Design (Design); 3) Development (Development); 4) Implementation (implementation); and 5) Evaluation. From the results of observations and interviews with the head of the Abadi Mangrove Women's Farmer Group that the women's group experienced problems in the production aspect, namely the limitations of equipment, where the production process still uses simple and traditional equipment as shown in the production process. The hardest thing for the Abadi Mangrove Women Farmers Group is the mixing/kneading stage of the ingredients, which still uses human labor in the process of kneading the ingredients so that the quality and quantity of the production results are not optimal. In fact, the Abadi Mangrove Women's Farmer Group is trying to develop its business, but its capital is limited. The group leader had applied for a capital loan at a rural credit bank but was rejected because he did not have business books. Financial statements are the key to monitoring business performance. Many Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are still not aware of the importance of making financial reports. One of the reasons MSMEs do not make financial reports is that they are seen as difficult, time-consuming, inconvenient, and unimportant. Technology-based accounting records are still very rarely found, especially in MSMEs.

Abstract

Pendidikan yang efektif memerlukan pendekatan pembelajaran yang inovatif dan sesuai dengan perkembangan zaman. Dalam upaya meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran di SMP Swasta Mulia Hamparan Perak, Kec. Hamparan Perak, Kab. Deli Serdang, pelatihan implementasi model pembelajaran Problem Based-Learning (PBL) telah dilaksanakan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan pelaksanaan pelatihan, dampaknya terhadap pemahaman guru tentang konsep PBL, dan perubahan dalam pendekatan pembelajaran mereka. Metode pelatihan melibatkan sesi teori, diskusi, dan latihan praktis dalam merancang skenario masalah PBL. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa para guru telah mengalami peningkatan pemahaman tentang konsep PBL dan keterampilan dalam merancang pembelajaran yang berbasis masalah. Selain itu, para guru merasa lebih percaya diri dalam mengimplementasikan metode PBL dan melaporkan peningkatan partisipasi siswa serta kolaborasi antar guru dalam konteks pembelajaran. Hasil survei menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas guru memiliki persepsi positif terhadap pelatihan dan model PBL. Penelitian ini memberikan wawasan tentang potensi positif dari pelatihan PBL dalam meningkatkan pendekatan pembelajaran guru dan pengalaman belajar siswa Kata Kunci : Problem Based Learning; Pelatihan Guru; Pendidikan Abad 21

Abstract

Menulis adalah salah satu keterampilan berbahasa yang harus dikuasai oleh siswa selain mendengar, berbicara dan membaca. Dengan menulis, siswa mampu mengungkapkan ide dan gagasan berdasarkan pengalaman yang mereka alami. Recount text adalah salah satu jenis teks yang bisa ditulis oleh siswa dalam upaya untuk mengungkapkan ide dan gagasan mereka berdasarkan pengalaman yang mereka alami sendiri ataupun orang lain. Dengan menulis recount text, siswa diharapkan menjadi lebih aktif dan kreatif dalam menulis. Recount text adalah salah satu bentuk text dalam bahasa inggris yang menceritakan pengalaman-pengalaman di masa lalu baik pengalaman pribadi, kelompok atau segala peristiwa yang ditulis dalam bahasa inggris. Recount text mempunyai struktur atau elemen-elemen yang ada di dalam teks terdiri dari orientation dan sequences of events and activities. Agar siswa mampu menulis recount text, siswa membutuhkan pelatihan tentang penulisan recount text agar supaya text yang dihasilkan memiliki konten yang khas serta memenuhi kaidah-kaidah penulisan recount text. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa siswa dapat menulis recount text secara baik dalam bentuk 3-5 paragraph dan siswa dapat mempersentasikan hasil recount text di depan kelas. Pelatihan recount text merupakan bagian dari penerapan Bahasa Inggris untuk siswa paket c untuk mempersiapkan siswa dalam menghadapi globaliasi dan moderinisasi yang membutuhkan kemampuan Bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

The English language ability test, in this case TOEFL, is an international standard language test to measure English language skills for speakers whose mother tongue is not English. In Indonesia, there are several conditions that require someone to take the TOEFL test, including continuing higher education both at home and abroad, meeting college graduation requirements, knowing the level of language skills applying for jobs, and getting a promotion. In general, there are three types of TOEFL, namely IBT (internet-based test), PBT (paper-based test), and ITP (Institutional Testing Program). In this regard, school age is considered the right time to introduce the TOEFL test to students, especially those whose solution is to provide TOEFL PREPARATION training. From the TOEFL training activities carried out from April 15 2024, the results showed that there was a significant increase in the students' TOEFL scores before and after the activity

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine use of the Elllo English learning Podcast Application can improve listening skills of seventh grade students at MTS Darul Ilmi Pangkalan Brandan. In this study, researchers used a quantitative experimental research method with type of true experimental by using two classes, namely class VII-1 as Experiment class and class VII-2 as Control class. In this study, researchers used a total sampling technique that used all class students of VII-1 and VII-2 classes totalling 45 students. In conducting research, researchers conducted pre-test and post-test in both classes. In conducting research, researchers conducted pre-test and post-test in both classes. The results of the average value of research obtained during pre-test of experimental class were 52.39 and control class was 51.81, both of which were included in poor category. After treatment,  average post-test score obtained by experimental class was 72.82 which was included in good category and control class was 65.68 which was included in low category.

Abstract

This article explores a community service initiative aimed at enhancing literacy among children in Rejatengah Village, Indonesia, as part of the national effort to develop Indonesia’s Golden Generation by 2045. The project was conducted by a team from Al Maksum College of Teacher Training and Education over a one-month period, targeting children aged 6 to 9 years. The initiative involved comprehensive educational activities, including literacy assessments, interactive workshops, and parental involvement, to foster a supportive learning environment. Significant improvements in literacy skills were observed, attributed to the innovative teaching methods and community engagement strategies employed. The establishment of a permanent educational resource center has ensured the sustainability of educational efforts, serving as a model for similar interventions in other rural areas. This project not only highlights the critical role of community-based educational programs in enhancing literacy but also demonstrates the potential of such initiatives to contribute to broader national development goals.

Abstract

This study aims to identify errors that are often made by 5th semester English language students in completing tree diagram assignments, especially in analyzing sentence structures in the Syntax course. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative approach, with data analysis techniques in the form of content analysis of 22 students who were divided into 10 groups to work on the task of making tree diagrams from English news texts from various sources. Based on the analysis, several types of main errors were found, namely errors in identifying word categories (168 words), incorrect node labeling (42 node labeling), and incorrect application of phrase structures (11 phrase structures). In addition, students also have difficulty in understanding the hierarchical relationship between syntactic elements, such as the correct placement of determiners and auxiliary verbs. These errors are often caused by a lack of understanding of basic word categories and the underlying syntactic rules. This study reveals that making tree diagrams requires a deep understanding not only of syntactic theory, but also its practical application in everyday sentence analysis. Errors in node labeling and errors in syntactic category identification indicate the need for a more contextual and deeper understanding-based learning approach.
