Abstract

Abstract

On the 2919 GT Ro-Ro vessel, structural geometry changes, specifically in the Length Between Perpendiculars (LPP) with additional framing, lead to variations in loading and maximum stress, in accordance with Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (BKI) regulations in Volume II. Finite Element Method analysis reveals structural responses, particularly in the parallel middle body section. Initially, the vessel was 10.5 meters long to support loads of seven 20-foot trucks; modifications increased this to 13.5 meters for loads of seven 40-foot trucks and 18 meters for a combination of 20-foot and 40-foot truck loads. The analysis results indicate significant differences in the vessel’s maximum structural stress under truck-loaded conditions. For lengths of 10.5 meters, 13.5 meters, and 18 meters, the stresses remain within safe limits under all conditions (Calm Water, Sagging, and Hogging), with (sigma)ult lower than the allowable as set by BKI. However, the 18-meter length exhibits maximum stress approaching the safe threshold in the Hogging condition, with (sigma)ult = reaching 243.4 MPa, suggesting structural modifications are required to ensure vessel safety.

Abstract

Delays that occur in the KMP Dharma Rucitra 1 ship refurbishment project have an impact on the MT Trikasa 17 ship refurbishment project, so that the project work must be accelerated in order not to exceed the contract. This study aims to overcome the delays that occur by finding the most optimal time acceleration value and the minimum cost. The time cost trade off method is often used in scheduling the repair of two or more ship units simultaneously to optimize project time and cost, so this method is considered to be able to overcome the problems that occur. Based on the repair list and main schedule data, the critical trajectory and productivity values of each job were obtained. The work on the critical trajectory was treated with variations of additional working hours (overtime) and variations of additional workers. The analysis shows that the addition of working hours (overtime) provides effective results, namely the addition of 1 working hour (overtime) with a reduction in time by 12.5% and a cost of Rp. 253,236,000 (4.35% increase). While the addition of labor provides effective results, namely the addition of 4 workers with a 25% reduction in time and costs of Rp. 245,140,000 (0.78% increase). Based on the two effective results, the most efficient result to overcome the delays that occur is the addition of 4 workers.

Abstract

In shipbuilding projects, it is often the case that the project completion time exceeds the planned target time. Risk is an important factor in estimating the project schedule. If risk occurs in a project, it is certain that the project duration will increase. Therefore, risk analysis and mitigation are needed in the risk management of shipbuilding projects. The case study in this research is the 11.3 DWT TRANSKO Tawes mooring boat construction project owned by PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental which is experiencing delays. With data in the form of the project main schedule, risk analysis uses Primavera Risk Analysis software integrated with the Monte Carlo method to analyze risks to the schedule and provide an estimate of the exact project completion time. By randomly decreasing the uncertainty variable for 201 iterations, the results show that the percentage value of project delays is 11.38% of the target project construction duration of 167 days so that the project is estimated to experience a maximum delay of 19 days from the planned target duration so that the project is completed in 186 days or 1 day longer than the actual duration of the project which is completed in 185 days. In the TRANSKO Tawes 11.3 DWT mooring boat construction project, 12 risks were obtained that affected the project with details of 3 high category risks, 2 medium category risks, and 7 low category risks. As for the actual duration of the project, there is an increase in productivity compared to the duration of the simulation results, which is 0.0001 DWT/mandays.

Abstract

ASTM A36 steel is a steel commonly used in shipbuilding construction. The property of steel that is highly avoided is susceptible to corrosion or corrosive which can reduce the strength of the structure. Over time, technology has developed, and methods have been found to inhibit the rapid rate of corrosion, coating process is one of them. The success rate of coating process is also strongly influenced by the surface preparation process. The surface preparation process in this study was by differentiating the size variations of the SG18, SG25, and SG40 steel grit abrasive materials and the spraying pressure of the 5 bar, 6 bar, and 7 bar abrasive materials and the provision of scratch defects on the specimens that had been coated with epoxy primer paint. The purpose of the research conducted was to analyze variations in size of the abrasive material, the spraying pressure of the abrasive material, and which combination of variations is the best for specimens considered to have been scratched. In each variation, the value of the corrosion rate will be increased when the size of the material increased and the value of the corrosion rate increases when the spraying pressure decreases. The results obtained from this study indicate that the lowest corrosion rate value is 0.0027 mmpy with the outstanding category of the variation used, which is grit SG40 steel abrasive material and at a pressure of 7 bar.

Abstract

Maintenance of the main engine lubrication system determines the engine’s performance and components based on the standard of Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance. The purpose of the system analysis is to determine the critical components and evaluate every lubrication system component as a base on maintenance planning as a preventive measure to avoid downtime during ship operations. Data needed are the ship’s motion, damage frequency, components’ downtime, and lubrication system diagram. Data was analyzed qualitatively with Failure Mode and Effect Analysis and Fault Tree Analysis as well as quantitatively with Overall Equipment Effectiveness, Markovian Decision Process, and damage distribution. Results show that LO filter crisis components with 120 RPN and LO Pump (standby) with 105 RPN. FTA analysis results there are 3 lost types cause happening failure system that is pressure oil low , overheating of the oil , and there is pollution in oil. At its steady-state conditions, have a probability of 0.45 to experience moderate damage and 0.55 to be severe damage. Therefore, it is recommended to carry out maintenance before passing the MTTF value of each component so that the system can work optimally.

Abstract

Over the decades, advancements in computer technology have significantly contributed to the development of numerical methods, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD). CFD encompasses two primary approaches: mesh-based and mesh-free methods. While mesh-based methods are well-established and widely used for analyzing free-surface flows, such as ship resistance, mesh-free methods like smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) have gained traction in real-world engineering applications. Despite its growing use, limited research has explored the application of SPH to ship resistance analysis. This study investigates the total ship resistance of a planing hull using the open-source SPH solver DualSPHysics. The research focuses on analyzing spray patterns and complex flow dynamics around the hull. DualSPHysics typically employs dynamic boundary conditions (DBC) as its standard boundary definition method. However, this study utilizes an advanced implementation of DBC, known as Modified Dynamic Boundary Conditions (mDBC), in conjunction with Project Chrono for enhanced simulation accuracy. The results demonstrate that SPH provides acceptable accuracy when compared to the Strip theory approach. Additionally, key parameters such as total force, sinkage, and trim are effectively reproduced using Project Chrono. This research highlights the potential of SPH, particularly with advanced boundary conditions, for ship resistance analysis and contributes to the growing body of knowledge in this field.
