Abstract

Teaching materials are one of the supporting components for achieving mathematical problem solving abilities. This research aims to analyze the need for teaching materials regarding sequences and series to improve mathematical problem solving abilities for class at SMAN 15 Pekanbaru. Data collection through interviews and questionnaires uses instruments that contain indicators, namely learning resources, content of teaching materials, and needs for teaching materials. The data analysis used is Miles-Huberman Interactive Analysis, which consists of data condensation, data display and conclusion drawing. The results of this research indicate that the teaching materials used in learning have shortcomings, namely: the teaching materials do not use a certain approach so that the teaching materials cannot improve mathematical problem solving abilities; material is received by memorization; teaching materials are less attractive, not contextual, unclear and difficult to use if there is no teacher explanation; teaching materials cannot make students active; and teaching materials cannot yet be called teaching materials because the constituent components are still lacking. The teacher stated that learning using teaching materials was better than just using textbooks. Based on the results of the research, it is hoped that it can be followed up to overcome students' problems in using teaching materials designed by teachers and developing teaching materials on sequence and series material which can improve students' mathematical problem solving abilities

Abstract

This developmental research is based on the low mathematical problem-solving ability of students. The heuristic approach can be used to guide students in problem-solving, thus the researchers used a heuristic-based module to improve students' mathematical problem-solving skills. The aim of this study is to describe the development process, quality, and effectiveness of the heuristic-based module. The research development, or Research and Development, uses the ADDIE model. The research subjects for module validation were experts in the field of education, while the subjects for practicality and effectiveness were eighth-grade students at SMPN 2 Sabak Auh. Data collection techniques included questionnaires and tests, with qualitative and quantitative data analysis. The feasibility assessment of the module obtained an average percentage of 81.31%, classified as very valid. Students' assessment of the module obtained an average percentage of 81.17%, classified as very practical. Based on the sig value in the sig (2-tailed) column of 0.000, which is smaller than 0.05, Ho is rejected and H1 is accepted, indicating that there is a difference in test results before and after using the module. This shows that learning using the heuristic-based module can improve students' mathematical problem-solving skills.

Abstract

This development study aims to produce a problem-based learning module on flat-sided geometry designed to enhance students' mathematical connection skills in Phase D. The teaching module consists of three main sections: the core, general information, and appendices. Given the limitations in students' mathematical connection skills, it is essential for teachers to use effective learning models. Problem-based learning focuses on real-world problems as the central point of instruction, helping students connect lessons to practical, everyday situations. This study followed the 4D development model, which includes the stages of define, design, develop, and disseminate. Product validation was conducted by three validators, who provided feedback for improvements. The readability of the student worksheets was tested through one-on-one trials with three students. Additionally, small-group trials involving 15 Phase D students from MTsN 4 Kampar were conducted to assess the module's practicality. The validation results showed an average score of 3.58, indicating the module is highly valid. The practicality test resulted in an average score of 87.5%, classifying the module as very practical. These findings demonstrate that the developed module can effectively improve students' mathematical connection skills. Furthermore, teachers can use this product as a teaching tool for the flat-sided geometry material in the mathematics learning process.

Abstract

Algebraic calculation operations are basic material that is the basis for studying other mathematical material, but there are still many students who still make mistakes in solving algebraic calculation operation questions. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the errors made by students in working on algebraic calculation operations questions. This research aims to describe the errors made by students when completing algebraic operations according to Kastolan theory in solving algebraic arithmetic operation problems. This type of research is qualitative descriptive research. The data collection technique used was a test. The data analysis techniques used were: examining the results of students' answers by identifying and analyzing the types of errors made by students in answering questions related to the Kastolan error type; 1) Calculate the percentage of error for each type of error, 2) The results of the percentage level are classified based on the percentage of error, 3) The data that has been obtained is then calculated and will be carried out using descriptive analysis, 4) Make conclusions from the results of the analysis of students' errors in working on form operation questions algebra based on the Kastolan error type. Based on the research data and discussions obtained, 69% of conceptual errors were in the high category, 58% of procedural errors were in the sufficient category, and 59% of technical errors were in the sufficient category. It can be concluded that the mistakes that many students make when working on test questions are conceptual errors, namely errors in understanding the questions. Factors that cause students to make mistakes are not understanding the concept and not being able to apply the concept
