Abstract

Ecological issues are not just ordinary problems but global issues that affect grassroots communities that are powerless in terms of knowledge, social, economic, cultural, and religious aspects. The objective is to analyze the presence of religious minority communities in responding to the ecological crisis in Southeast Aceh through the contextualization of ecological theology from the encyclical Laudato Si’, using a qualitative phenomenological approach through interviews and focus group discussions with 26 participants in 2025. The results of the study show the successful implementation of an integral ecology model that transforms reforestation from a technical action into a practice of faith, supported by the synergistic integration of three dimensions: spiritual as a driver of ecological conversion, social through participatory community structures, and technical with sustainable methods such as agroforestry. The main conclusion offers a transformative solution: that addressing the ecological crisis must begin with a transformation of the heart driven by spirituality, strengthened by community, and manifested in systematic concrete actions, while also becoming a blueprint for contextual and value-based environmental conservation. This research contributes to developing a model that promotes social and cultural awareness, as well as ecological conversion, which can be used to create educational curricula from elementary to university levels. Additionally, it serves as a policy recommendation for both the government and the Catholic Church regarding Christian anthropological theology education.

Abstract

This study examines the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in reshaping religious authority and learning practices within Catholic education, focusing on the subject of the Church as the People of God. Employing a qualitative research design based on Creswell’s approach, the study seeks to explore the lived experiences of teachers and students in engaging with AI as part of religious learning processes. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis at SMA Katolik 2 Kabanjahe, North Sumatra Province, involving two Catholic Religious Education teachers, thirty students, and the school principal. Data analysis followed the stages of data reduction, data display, and interactive conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that AI does not merely function as a pedagogical tool, but actively transforms patterns of religious learning and the mediation of ecclesial authority in the classroom. AI facilitates more contextual theological explanations, supports simulated pastoral dialogues, and provides visual resources that strengthen students’ conceptual and reflective understanding of the Church’s identity as the People of God. At the same time, the integration of AI reconfigures the role of teachers from primary transmitters of knowledge to mediators of meaning, interpretation, and ecclesial values. Students demonstrate increased learning motivation, deeper faith reflection, and more critical engagement with religious content. However, this transformation also generates challenges, including technological dependency, unequal digital literacy, and the need for continuous ethical and ecclesial guidance to ensure that AI-mediated learning remains aligned with Catholic values and religious authority structures

Abstract

This study analyzes and describes the multidimensional role of Catholic religious educators as a determining factor in innovating a conducive learning environment for academic achievement and the development of students' creativity. This study was conducted at SD Negeri 101856 Gunung Rintih, involving Catholic religious educators, homeroom teachers, students, and the principal as research subjects, using a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques included participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation collection. The findings of this study indicate that professional teachers who understand the essence of learning creativity have the strategic capacity to innovate a dynamic and inspiring learning environment through the implementation of their integrative roles as educators, teachers, mentors, creativity motivators, and counselors. The implementation of this role has been proven to foster a creative learning climate, as seen in increased active participation, courage to present ideas, frequency of questions, and willingness to take intellectual risks among students. The implication is that the integrative role of teachers is key to stimulating creativity and academic achievement. Therefore, to optimize and maintain these achievements, continuous professional development is needed to transform this positive dynamic into a culture of sustainable learning quality in the school environment.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the understanding of the faithful and the implementation of Eucharistic liturgical gestures at Saint Christopher Parish, Siborongborong. Liturgical gestures such as the sign of the cross, standing, sitting, kneeling, and striking the chest are essential elements of active participation in the Eucharistic celebration. These gestures are not just physical actions but carry profound spiritual significance. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the faithful’s understanding of the symbolic meaning of these gestures remains limited, which leads to a tendency to perform them mechanically without deep spiritual reflection. This lack of understanding results in a disconnect between the physical actions and their intended spiritual effects. Nevertheless, in practice, the faithful generally follow these gestures in accordance with the liturgical norms of the Church. Therefore, the study emphasizes the need for continuous and contextual liturgical formation programs. These programs should aim to deepen the awareness and spiritual engagement of the faithful in the Eucharistic celebration, ensuring that the gestures are not just performed but fully understood and internalized.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui implementasi kompetensi pedagogik Guru Pendidikan Agama Katolik dalam membentuk minat belajar peserta didik di Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 2 Parbuluan. Permasalahan penelitian ialah bagaimana minat belajar peserta didik dan implementasi kompetensi pedagogik Guru Pendidikan Agama Katolik. Metode penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan dengan teknik wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi. Informan peneliti adalah Guru Pendidikan Agama Katolik, Kepala Sekolah, guru sejawat dan peserta didik. Untuk mengukur keabsahan data penelitian maka peneliti melakukan triangulasi baik teknik dan sumber. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peserta didik sudah memiliki minat dalam pembelajaran Pendidikan Agama Katolik, terlihat dari implementasi kompetensi pendagogik yang dilaksanakan sudah terlaksana dengan baik oleh Guru Pendidikan Agama Katolik.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the important role of Catholic Youth (Orang Muda Katolik/OMK) in the life of the Church. However, their involvement still faces various challenges that affect their active participation in Church ministries. This study aims to describe the diaconal ministry of Catholic Youth and their involvement in the life of the Church at St. Andreas Kempawa Station. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Theoretically, this study is based on the concept of diakonia, which includes charitable service, empowerment service, and social transformation, as well as the concept of Catholic Youth involvement in ecclesial life. The results show that the diaconal ministry of Catholic Youth at St. Andreas Kempawa Station is manifested through charitable service, empowerment service, and social transformation. Meanwhile, the involvement of Catholic Youth is reflected in their active participation in liturgy, fellowship (koinonia), and charitable service (diakonia). These various forms of involvement contribute to strengthening faith, character formation, and enhancing the sense of responsibility and solidarity among Catholic Youth in the life of the Church and society. Keyword:   diakonia, involvement, Catholic Youth, pastoral ministry, Catholic Church.   Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya peran Orang Muda Katolik (OMK) dalam kehidupan menggereja, namun keterlibatan mereka masih menghadapi berbagai tantangan yang memengaruhi partisipasi aktif dalam pelayanan Gereja. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan diakonia Orang Muda Katolik dan keterlibatan Orang Muda Katolik di Stasi Santo Andreas Kempawa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Analisis data dilakukan melalui tahap reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Secara teoretis, penelitian ini menggunakan konsep diakonia yang meliputi pelayanan kasih, pelayanan pemberdayaan, dan transformasi sosial, serta konsep keterlibatan Orang Muda Katolik dalam kehidupan menggereja. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa diakonia Orang Muda Katolik di Stasi Santo Andreas Kempawa diwujudkan melalui pelayanan kasih, pelayanan pemberdayaan, dan transformasi sosial. Sementara itu, keterlibatan Orang Muda Katolik tampak melalui partisipasi aktif dalam bidang liturgi, persekutuan (koinonia), dan pelayanan kasih (diakonia). Berbagai bentuk keterlibatan tersebut berkontribusi terhadap penguatan iman, pembentukan karakter, serta peningkatan rasa tanggung jawab dan solidaritas anggota OMK dalam kehidupan Gereja dan masyarakat. Abstract

This study aims to analyze and compare the understanding of assurance of salvation in the dogma of the Roman Catholic Church and the tradition of Martin Luther that gave birth to the Lutheran Church. In the Catholic Church, assurance of salvation is understood as a process that takes place through God's grace, sanctification, and the involvement of the faithful in the sacraments and moral life. Meanwhile, the Lutheran tradition emphasizes that salvation is received entirely as a gift from God (sola gratia), through faith (sola fide), and based on the authority of Scripture (sola scriptura), with Christ as the only basis of salvation (solus Christus). The research method used a literature study with a dogmatic-historical approach, examining the documents of the Council of Trent, the Augsburg Confession, Luther's writings, and the magisterial documents of the Catholic Church, including the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification (JDDJ). The research indicates that the JDDJ is an important milestone in modern ecumenism because it affirms the basic agreement between the two traditions: humans are justified solely by grace through faith in Christ, while true faith always produces love and renewal of life. The results of the study show that the main difference lies in emphasis: the Catholic Church highlights the continuity of grace lived out in the sacraments and morality, while Lutherans emphasize the certainty of salvation received through faith that bears the fruit of love. Nevertheless, both agree that salvation is entirely the work of God through Christ. This research is expected to enrich soteriological understanding and strengthen fraternal dialogue between Christian denominations so that the experience of faith is increasingly rooted in God's saving grace.

Abstract

Doktrin pembenaran merupakan tema teologis yang sangat mendasar dalam ke – Kristenan dan sejak reformasi abad ke – 16 menjadi salah satu titik perbedaan utama antara Gereja Katolik dan Gereja Lutheran. Penandatanganan  Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justiication (1999) menjadi tonggak penting dalam dialog ekumenis karena berhasil merumuskan kesepahaman teologis mengenai pembenaran sebagai karya rahmat Allah yang diterima melalui iman. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis secara komparatif pemahaman doktrin pembenaran dalam tradisi Gereja Katolik dan Gereja Lutheran serta menilai relevansinya bagi kehidupan Gereja dan masyarakat Indonesia yang bersifar plural. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi pustaka deskriptif-analitis melalui penelaahan dokumen resmi Gereja, terutama dokumen  Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification (1999), serta berbagai literatur teologis yang relevan. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa meskipun kedua tradisi masih memiliki perbedaan penekanan teologis dan praktik eklesial, konsensus yang dicapai dalam Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification (1999) memberikan dasar kuat bagi pengembangan sikap saling memahami dan kerja sama ekumenis yang lebih nyata. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa doktrin pembenaran memiliki implikasi pastoral yang penting dalam memperkuat dialog antar Gereja, pembaruan pemahaman iman umat, serta penghayatan kesaksian Kristiani bersama dalam konteks Indonesia.

Abstract

The This study aims to describe the discourse of integral ecology and the praxis of ecological conversion within families at Saint Joseph Parish, Lawe Desky, in light of the Encyclical Laudato Si’. Ecological crises in agrarian regions are often triggered by the tension between economic necessity and environmental preservation, requiring a theological-practical review at the grassroots level. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, data were gathered through observation and in-depth interviews with seven lay families, the Parish Pastoral Council (DPPH), and the Parish Priest. The results reveal a “cognitive anomaly”, where the faithful are unfamiliar with the technical terminology of Laudato Si’, yet substantially embody the values of stewardship through an existential awareness of human dependence on nature. The praxis of ecological conversion manifests in microscopic actions within the Ecclesia Domestica, such as disciplined waste management and intergenerational ecological education. Nevertheless, structural hurdles persist, particularly the economic dependence on the corn farming sector, which poses risks of forest degradation. This research concludes that sustainable ecological conversion in Lawe Desky requires an integration of spiritual faith and the transformation of agricultural techniques aligned with nature.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out how people understand the validity of marriage and the implementation of marriage validation for the validity of Catholic marriages in the Stasi Saint Paulus Sukanalu, Paroki Santa Perawan Maria Diangkat Ke Surga Kabanjahe. This research employs a qualitative approach. The informants in this research were KDPS, a valid Catholic spouse and illegitimate Catholic married couples. Marriage in the Catholic Church has three elements of validity: agreement, confirmation system and free status. The unfulfilled one of the elements results in the marriage being invalid and not recognized by the Church and to legalize it by accepting validation. The finding of this research is that people understand the elements of the validity of Catholic marriage but have not been able to apply validation to live as a member of the Church. Most of the people, especially the illegitimate spouses, still receive the right to be a Catholic even though they should not be accepted.
