Abstract

Risky sexual behavior is a serious issue as it is a major risk factor for the emergence of diseases such as Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), disabilities, and mortality among adolescents due to a lack of information about sexual health. The aim of this study is to prevent risky sexual behavior through health education based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). A systematic review was conducted using four electronic databases (Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science (WoS), and Science Direct) on previous studies employing cross-sectional, quasi-experimental, and Randomized Control Trials (RCT) designs from the last 5 years (2017-2021). The database search was performed from November to December 2021. The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) was used as a guide for assessing the quality of the studies, and PRISMA was used as the research guideline. Data analysis utilized descriptive analysis to identify themes. There were 11 articles that met the inclusion criteria in the review. All selected studies discussed sexual health education using the TPB approach. There was an improvement in behavior change based on TPB (attitudes, subjective norms, control, and intention) among adolescents who received sexual health education. The factors influencing adolescents' intentions are closely related to the process of behavior formation. These factors include attitudes, subjective norms, and behavioral control. A Sexual health education based on TPB can be an appropriate intervention to prevent risky sexual behavior among adolescents, as its priority is to strengthen behavioral intentions by enhancing attitudes, subjective norms, and behavioral control through continuous health education.

Abstract

Background: Anemia in adolescents, particularly young women, remains a significant public health concern in Indonesia, with low adherence to iron supplementation being a key contributing factor. While previous interventions have focused primarily on individual compliance, the role of teachers as health educators in schools is often overlooked. This study aimed to analyze the determinants of teachers’ intention to provide health education on anemia prevention in Surabaya high schools.Method: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 119 high school and vocational school teachers within the working area of Tanah Kali Kedinding Health Center, selected through simple random sampling from a total population of 170 teachers. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using multiple logistic regressions to assess the influence of attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control on teachers' intention to deliver health education.Result: The analysis indicated that teacher' attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control did not significantly influence their intention to deliver health education on iron supplementation. This indicates that structural and institutional factors, rather than individual psychological characteristics, primarily influence teachers' involvement in health education delivery.of the risks of e cigarettes. Efforts to enhance adolescent anemia prevention should address structural barriers within the educational system. Policy support from schools and educational authorities is critical to institutionalizing health education as part of the teachers' formal responsibilities.

Abstract

Teenage premarital pregnancy is a population issue that requires preventive efforts involving various parties, including traditional leaders as part of the community around adolescents. This study aimed to determine the influence of transformational leadership style on the role of traditional leaders in preventing teenage premarital pregnancy. This observational study used a cross-sectional design involving 200 traditional leaders selected through a simple random sampling technique. The independent variables were transformational leadership style and sociodemographic factors, while the dependent variable was the role of traditional leaders in preventing teenage premarital pregnancy. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using univariate analysis, bivariate analysis with the Chi-square test, and multivariate analysis with multiple logistic regression. The results showed that sociodemographic factors (age, gender, education, occupation, and income) did not significantly influence the role of traditional leaders (p>0.05). However, work experience had a significant effect (OR=0.514, p=0.023). Transformational leadership style also had a significant influence (OR=15.910, p=0.001). Multivariate analysis revealed that transformational leadership style was the most influential factor on the role of traditional leaders (OR=17.127, 95% CI=8.093–36.246, p<0.001). It can be concluded that transformational leadership style plays a crucial role in strengthening the role of traditional leaders in preventing teenage premarital pregnancy. Transformational leadership training programs for traditional leaders are strongly recommended, and collaboration between government and health institutions with traditional leaders in adolescent reproductive health programs should be enhanced.

Abstract

Postpartum depression (PPD) affects many aspects of a mother's life. Understanding the factors that contribute to this condition is crucial, as some factors may play a greater role than others. This study aimed to identify the prevalence of PPD, examine its associated factors, and determine the dominant factors related to the incidence of PPD in Badung Regency, Indonesia. This research employed a cross-sectional design conducted between May and July 2024. It involved 239 mothers who were 2 – 6 weeks postpartum. Participants were selected from seven public health centers in Badung Regency using two-stage cluster sampling. A questionnaire was used to assess several factors, including sociodemographic characteristics, obstetric history, baby characteristics, stressors during the postpartum period, husband’s support, and postpartum depression symptoms. These factors were analyzed using bivariate chi-square analysis and multivariate logistic regression. The prevalence of PPD in this study was 47.3%. Associated factors included maternal age, stressors related to personal needs and fatigue, infant nurturing, body changes and sexuality, and instrumental and emotional husband support. Among these, the most dominant factors were body changes and sexuality, personal needs, and fatigue, which increased the risk of PPD by approximately threefold. The prevalence of PPD in Badung Regency is higher than previously reported in other areas. This highlights the importance of PPD screening and educating husbands about the need to provide both instrumental and emotional support during the postpartum period. We recommend implementing early screening and husband involvement programs.

Abstract
