Abstract

This study aims to analyze research trends related to flipped classrooms in physics learning from 2019 to 2023 through bibliometric analysis. The research trends consistently show a growing interest in flipped classrooms as a relevant and compelling topic in physics education. Using bibliometric mapping techniques, several distinct clusters were identified, including purple, blue, green, and orange clusters. Key keywords such as flipped classroom, physics, and student emerged as prominent themes. Furthermore, the top five authors and affiliated institutions contributing to this research were identified, with the largest contributions originating from Indonesia. The research was conducted by systematically collecting data from the Scopus database using the keywords "flipped classroom" and "physics" for the selected time frame. Data were analyzed using VOSviewer, focusing on three types of visualizations: network visualization, overlay visualization, and density visualization. Microsoft Excel was used to graph publication trends and document distribution, providing additional insights into the results. The findings of this study highlight the significant potential of flipped classrooms to improve students' understanding of physics learning by employing participatory methodologies and engaging students directly in the learning process.

Abstract

Purpose—In the 21st century, where education emphasizes the development of holistic competencies, collaboration skills have become an important aspect of preparing students to face the complex demands of the real-world environment. This study aims to analyze the effect of discovery learning on improving students' collaboration skills in studying alternative energy sources, mainly hydropower.Methodology – This research employed a quasi-experimental design featuring a one-group pretest-posttest method, with 35 students at SMP IT Ibnu Abbas serving as participants. The sample was chosen using a random sampling approach, ensuring that every individual in the population had an equal chance of being selected. Information regarding students' collaboration skills was gathered through self-assessment using a questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistical methods to provide an overview of the results and inferential statistics to test hypotheses and reach more detailed conclusions.Findings—The results indicate a notable enhancement in students' collaboration abilities following the adoption of the discovery learning model, with the mean score increasing from 28.49 on the pre-test to 36.34 on the post-test. A paired sample t-test validated this change, yielding a significance level of 0.000. The N-Gain assessment also demonstrated a medium effectiveness level with an average score of 0.3255. The discovery learning model successfully improved collaboration skills through active exploration, discussion, and problem-solving, underscoring its potential to promote 21st-century competencies among students.Significance – In addition, this approach provides a reference for implementing strategic steps to help high school students improve their collaborative skills, fostering essential non-academic achievements like teamwork and problem-solving for their future success.

Abstract

Critical thinking is essential in contemporary times as it trains students to analyze, evaluate, and make logical and reflective decisions. This study aimed to determine the effect of discovery learning integrated with differentiated instruction on students' critical thinking skills. This research employed a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects were 30 ninth-grade students of SMPN 4 Sentajo Raya. Data were collected through pretest and posttest assessments using critical thinking questions on temperature and heat. The results showed that the average pretest score was 48 and the posttest score was 78. Based on the paired samples test with a significance value (2-tailed) < 0.05, the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H₁) was accepted. This indicates a significant difference in students' critical thinking skills before and after implementing the discovery learning integrated with differentiated instruction.

Abstract

This development was motivated by students' low science process skills and the limited availability of teaching materials that integrate simulation technology in junior high school science learning, necessitating innovation in the form of worksheets that can facilitate discovery-based learning. This research employed the Research and Development (R&D) methodology with the ADDIE model. A pre-experimental design with one group pretest-posttest was used at the implementation stage. The research subjects were ninth-grade students. Data was collected through validation sheets for experts and practitioners, student response questionnaires for readability testing, and science process skills test instruments in multiple-choice questions. Data analysis used quantitative descriptive techniques for validation and readability data, while N-gain test and nonparametric statistical analysis with the Wilcoxon test to analyze product effectiveness. Product feasibility assessment involved media experts, content experts, two practitioners, and 10 ninth-grade students selected through purposive sampling considering different academic ability levels to assess readability. The results showed very high product validity, with average scores of 0.83 from experts and 0.97 from practitioners. The readability test achieved 96%, falling into the excellent category. Product effectiveness was proven high, with an N-gain of 0.85. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test yielded a p-value < 0.05, indicating a significant improvement in students' science process skills. Developing technology-based teaching materials can provide alternative solutions for teachers in integrating virtual practicum into science learning to improve students' science process skills.

Abstract

The achievement of environmental literacy of students in Indonesia still faces various problems. Even though environmental literacy is one of the important literacy for students to have. This study aims to determine the profile of environmental literacy among junior high school students and the need for integrated science teaching materials based on problem based learning (PBL) at Rawa Bento. The population of this study consists of junior high school students from six schools in Kerinci Regency. The research sample includes 90 students selected using a purposive random sampling technique. Data collection is conducted through instruments such as tests to measure environmental literacy and student response questionnaires to determine the need for integrated science teaching materials based on PBL at Rawa Bento. The data in the study are analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis techniques. The research findings are as follows: 1) the majority of students have low to moderate levels of environmental literacy. 38.9% of students still have a low level of environmental literacy, 54.4% fall into the moderate category, and only 6.7% are in the high category; 2) the lowest ability of students is in analyzing the impacts resulting from environmental issues; 3) there is a need for the development of integrated electronic teaching materials based on PBL at Rawa Bento to enhance students' environmental literacy. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the environmental literacy of students from six schools in Kerinci Regency is in the medium category

Abstract

This study aims to develop a flipbook-based science e-module using Problem-Based Learning (PBL) to enhance critical thinking skills and learning motivation of grade VIII students on human circulatory system material. This research employed Research and Development (R&D) methodology using the ADDIE model consisting of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation phases. The research subjects included 33 students in the experimental class and 33 students in the control class at SMP Negeri 14 Yogyakarta. Data collection instruments included validation sheets, practicality questionnaires, critical thinking skills tests, and learning motivation questionnaires. The research design used a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design. Results showed that the developed e-module achieved very feasible category in material and media aspects with scores of 3.88 and 3.95 respectively. Practicality assessment by science teachers and students showed very practical category with a score of 3.80. Effectiveness testing using MANOVA showed significant differences (p = 0.000 < 0.05) between experimental and control groups. The N-gain scores were 0.70 (high category) for critical thinking skills and 0.45 (moderate category) for learning motivation in the experimental group, compared to 0.44 (moderate) and 0.29 (low) respectively in the control group. The effect size analysis using Cohen's d showed large effects for both variables (d = 0.89 for critical thinking; d = 1.73 for learning motivation). The flipbook-based science e-module with PBL approach proved effective in enhancing students' critical thinking skills and learning motivation on human circulatory system material.
