Abstract

This study provides empirical findings on the relationship between deforestation and income in 32 provinces in Indonesia. To enrich the discussion on deforestation, this study investigates the impact of the factors of population, roundwood production, land area, and main crop production on deforestation. The selected main crops in Indonesia are oil palm, coffee, coconut, rubber, and cacao. The results confirm the existence of the EKC relationship between deforestation and income in Indonesia. The study also finds that oil palm production positively affects tree cover loss, but the production of natural rubber has the opposite impact on deforestation.

Abstract

Agricultural crops greatly depends on the season, since the time of land preparation to harvest. Planting delays due to lack of capital, will result in crop failure or low crop productivity. Islamic microfinance institutions, such as BMT, offersmurabaha financing as one of financing options. Application of murabahais generally followed by monthly installment payments. The condition of most farmers doesn’t enable them to have enough income due to pay the main installments with a monthly period. Postharvest payment return system is an alternativemain return of financing. The research result showed the factors that influence farmers in choosing the monthly payment system and postharvest margins on murabaharice farming financing in BMT As Salam, Kramat, Demak using binary logistic regression. The analysis result showed the reason for choosing the payment system significantly influenced rice farmers choice. The chance of postharvest payment is acceptableaccording to the ability of most farmers. The effectiveness of postharvest payment return implementationonmurabaha rice farming financing was measured using a Likert scale. The results showed that postharvest paymentimplementation has been effective in all stages of financing and made a positive impact on farm members.

Abstract

Differences in economic structure, differences in income levels, food price levels cause differences in household consumption patterns. This paper analyzes food diversification in Java. Households are grouped by income group to assess the level of food diversification of each group. Households whose income groups Q3 and Q4 have lower food diversification compared to households in groups Q1 and Q2. The study results show that the value of BI is greater than the value of MBI in both urban and rural areas. This indicates that the source of calories does not come from only one type of commodity. The increase in per capita expenditure does not increase food diversification (the dependent variable is BI) for households in groups Q1 and Q2, while it is positive for households in groups Q3 and Q4. Food prices generally affect diversification. An increase in the number of household members will reduce the level of diversification for Q1 households. In contrast, increasing the number of household members will increase food diversification for Q2, Q3 and Q4 households. The level of household diversification in urban areas is higher than in rural areas.

Abstract

Dairi Regency has the potential to increase its maize production. One of the problems in maize farming is its low productivity because of its low efficiency of input use. The objectives of this research are:(1) analyzing factors influencing maize production, and (2) analyzing the economic efficiency of maize farming at Dairi District. The analysis methods used are the Cobb-Douglas stochastic frontier production function utilizing Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) to analyze technical efficiency, the dual cost function to analyze allocative efficiency. This research used cross-section data. The research findings showed thatfactors like seed and fertilizers (SP-36 and Phonska) were positively and statistically significant on maize production (level of significance at 5 percents), the use of urea and herbicide also havea positive and statistically significant influence on maize production (level of significance at 10 percents). Furthermore, labor use hasa positive, but not statistically significant effect on maize production. The efficiency analysis revealed that the maize farmers had economic inefficiency. The low frequency of extension visits was a substantial contributorto this technical inefficiency. Agricultural extension is deemed essential to significantly increase the technical efficiency.

Abstract

The fluctuation in exchange rate Indonesia may have an impact on the price of imported goods both consumer goods (finished goods) and raw materials. The aim of this study is to analyze the impact of exchange rate changes on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of foods categories and analyze the role of the exchange rate in explaining fluctuations in the CPI of food category in Indonesia. Econometric analysis using vector error correction model, indicates that the greatest degree of pass-through occurs in the consumer price index groups of milk and eggs. Contributions of exchange rate as the result of decomposition of forecasting error variance is largest in the meat category.

Abstract

Most developing countries in this study are middle to low-income countries that have a relatively low economic complexity. This study aims to analyze the effect of the economic complexity on economic growth in 86 developing countries in 2010-2019. The method used is the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) to capture dynamic panel analysis. The estimation results using the System GMM show that economic complexity has a positive effect on economic growth in developing countries. Increasing economic complexity encourages a structural transformation through high value-added economic sectors' creation to produce more complex products for earning a higher income. Human capital does not have a significant effect on economic growth because developing countries have relatively low-quality workers both in terms of education and health. The human capital development and government spending on the health sector are necessary to accelerate sustainable economic growth.
