Abstract

The research was conducted in the Maruni limestone forest habitat. The observation plots were carried out at an altitude of 35 masl to> 212 masl. Observations were made 2 times every day (day and night). The method of calculating diversity is done using the Shannon-Wieners Index and the species population is calculated using the Alikodra formula. 11 species were found that belong to the Varanidae, Boidae, Gekkonidae, Ranidae, and Hylidae families. The diversity of wildlife in the Maruni limestone location follows the altitude of the habitat. Reptiles do not differ according to height. The most common types are in the class of lizards, monitor lizards, and frogs. The types of herpetofauna that can be found are carnivores and are not protected. This type of monitor lizard can be found in abundance in low areas to an altitude of> 200 meters above sea level. Meanwhile, monitor lizards can be found in wet forests and near water sources. Similar to lizards, frogs inhabit wet or watery areas. The diversity of wildlife species in limestone habitats in each class of Reptiles is 18%. The population of herpetofauna species found varied between 25-1200 individuals.

Abstract

The study aimed to descriptively capture livestock production and food waste and the suitability of border farms in the lowland Merauke region. Data were analyzed on livestock population structure (individual/ST), food crop waste production (dry weight, DW), capacity, and location quotient (LQ), and SWOT. Food crop waste production is 350 thousand tons of DW and so far only provided for ruminant cattle about 11%. Food crop straw waste is still dominated by rice straw (97%), followed by corn waste (2%), sweet potatoes, and peanuts. The capacity to increase the cattle population is close to 315 thousand ST. The LQ value of both livestock and food crops in Merauke is still in the range of 0 -<1 and is still a prospective sector to be optimized. The results of SWOT analysis conclude that the S-O strategy is the intensification and expansion of livestock commodities. Abstract

Broiler farming in Malang Regency, East Java, Indonesia, has experienced rapid growth, significantly contributing to the regional economy. In this region, the open cage system is among the broiler cage systems that are commonly used. Therefore, this study aims to analyze 1) factors affecting growth, 2) factors causing technical inefficiency, and 3) technical, allocative, and economic efficiency. The results showed that factors such as day-old chicks (DOC), feed, and drugs positively affected broilers' development. However, there was a variation in the level of technical efficiency of 0.047 due to inefficient sources, which included the age of breeders, education level, work experience, number of family members, and employment status. Despite the variation in efficiency levels, the average breeder demonstrated high technical, allocative, and economic efficiency with values of 0.93, 0.99, and 0.92, respectively. This performance indicated that the average breeders had yet to reach peak efficiency but were categorized as high-efficiency. To further enhance productivity, broiler farming required additional DOC feed and adequate training for broiler breeders to maximize productivity and resource utilization. Based on these results, recommendations were made to provide loans to broiler farms with simple terms and conditions, specifically for purchasing DOC, feed, labor, medicines, and fuel.

Abstract

ABSTRACT. Stakeholders and their network place top rank of value chain business and ruled prominent roles in the livestock development sector particularly poultry commodity. The involvement of many stakeholders and other parties is questionable because they perform and shape the market and business chain. The study was done in Manokwari using focus group discussion towards twenty-four various represented individuals, groups and mass organizations. The key queries discussed concerning the introduced background of the organization, shared resources, inter-connectivity amongst actors, intervention and innovation preferences and shared by actors. Stakeholder Network Analysis was employed to run the network and relationship between actors using the Pearson Correlation Coefficient and Hierarchical Clustering Analysis. The finding is that the stakeholders in the poultry farming systems are dominated by private group actors who are working in groups to manage the farms and its value chain process and officially have been under laws. These actors commonly act like positive important stakeholders, who ruled the farms. The threats are real and exist and should be lowering as much as possible to mitigate the turn-back effect. The top five shared resources are access, spaces, time, policy, knowledge and skills. Those resources will stay longer to sustain the strong needs of poultry farms. The relationship of actors is dominated by the ranges of correlation are varying in between negative, neutral to positive. Actors are not delivering the intervention and innovation yet. Actors with low interest and low power should then be promoted to high interest and high power by using aids, guidance, and services from each actor from its value chain and cooperation and farming business.

Abstract

Distribution, development, stabilizer, and consumer areas status of livestock development become the objective of this research. Little is known concerning the portrait of livestock production in the neighborhood region of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea such as Keerom Regency in Papua Province. The descriptive method employed was using desk study. The measured parameters were population structure, carrying capacity, regional development, and suitability commodity using LQ. The finding shows that Skanto and Arso Timur hold the first two districts with a high population of the goat. The 2 districts out of 11 districts have no swine recorded. The Skanto District has the highest cattle population recorded, i.e. 4136,38 AU, followed by Arso Timur, Arso, and Arso Barat. Production of fodder from crop yields is harvested from Senggi and Arso, followed by Skanto, Web, Arso Barat, Yaffi, and Arso Timur. Corn is the highest production of crops. Senggi can be a central of livestock development, followed by Arso, Skanto, Web, and Arso Barat. The KPPTR calculation for Keerom regency shows Web district has the highest value of 379.31 ST, while the lowest is Skanto. The goat sector from the point of agribusiness density shows optimum values reached by the Skanto district. The cattle sector from the point of regional density is dominantly shown by Arso Barat. The cattle sector from the point of economic density is dominantly shown by the Skanto district. The criterion found commonly is very dense compared to dense, medium, and rare. The total values of this finding range from 6 to 12 for EU, EW, and UW. In the EU, the WK (CA) of the three commodities is greater found, i.e.  18 areas compared to WPP (DDA) only found 13 areas. The figures for cattle are under 0,50, not achieving 1,00 and greater than that of 1,00. Only in the Skanto district, the LQ mark of the goat reached 0,539. However, swine is the common livestock raised by farmers in Keerom Regency.

Abstract

This study investigates the trends in goat population and meat production in Papua and West Papua from 2000 to 2023, analyzing the relationship between population growth, production output, and key management factors. Using secondary data from official sources such as the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Department of Animal Husbandry, the study employs descriptive analysis, Pearson correlation, and both linear and non-linear regression models. The results indicate a significant positive correlation between goat population and meat production, particularly in Papua, where a cubic regression model explained 61.9% of the variability in production. In contrast, West Papua showed a weaker relationship with more fluctuations in production trends. The study underscores the importance of sustainable management practices, including feed quality and health care, to optimize goat production. These findings provide insights into improving goat farming in these regions through targeted interventions and policy alignment with national agricultural strategies.
