Abstract

The rational use of medicine is one of the important aspects in maintaining public health. However, there are still many people who do not understand how to obtain, use, store, and dispose of drugs properly. To overcome this, the government through the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) has launched an educational program known as the DAGUSIBU concept (Get, Use, Store, and Dispose of Medicines Correctly). The purpose of this study was to determine the level of public knowledge about DAGUSIBU at Melur Health Center Pekanbaru, Riau. The research design carried out in this study was observational which was descriptive analytic, with a cross sectional research design, data collection techniques were carried out concurrently. The subjects of this study were people who came for treatment and bought medicine at Puskesmas Melur Pekanbaru. Data collection in this study used a questionnaire on the level of knowledge of the community. Based on the research that has been done about the description of the level of public knowledge about DAGUSIBU, the results obtained that the four dimensions namely Daptkan, Use, Save and Dispose are in the category strongly agree with a percentage of 76% and the category agree with a percentage of 24%. It can be concluded that the community of Puskesmas Melur Pekanbaru generally has a good knowledge of how to get, use, store and dispose of drugs.

Abstract

Diabetes melitus (DM) merupakan suatu kelompok penyakit metabolik yang terjadi karena kelainan sekresi insulin, kerja insulin atau kedua-duanya. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk melihat pengaruh pemberian informasi media leaflet tentang diabetes pada usia muda serta memberikan informasi melalui edukasi terkait penyakit diabetes melitus. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilakukan dengan metode face to face kepada masyarakat yang ada di Car Free Day (CFD). Responden pada kegiatan penegabdian ini adalah masyarakat yang ada di CFD dengan total responden yaitu 50 orang. Hasil pretest dan post-test menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan yang signifikan, dengan p-value 0,000 dari uji Wilcoxon, yang menunjukkan adanya pengaruh positif dari edukasi yang diberikan.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a public health problem that continues to increase, especially in rural areas that have limited access to modern health services. The use of herbal plants as alternative therapy is increasingly receiving attention because of its abundant availability and relatively low cost. In order to increase public awareness of the importance of prevention and treatment, especially with herbal ingredients for this degenerative disease, there needs to be ongoing counseling, one of which is through community service. This community service activity aims to provide education on the use of herbal plants that have the potential to lower blood sugar levels to the people of Empat Balai Village, Kuok District, Kampar Regency. The activities include counseling, interactive discussions, and demonstrations of the use of local herbal plants such as insulin leaves (Costus igneus), Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera), Belimbing Wuluh (Averrhoa bilimbi), Pare (Momordica charantia), sambiloto, and mahkota dewa. The research method uses a qualitative approach with counseling techniques and leaflets given to 50 respondents. The results of the study showed an increase in public knowledge or insight about the use of herbal plants for diabetes sufferers with significance (p <0.5). The results of this Community Service activity show the importance of educating the community about managing diabetes naturally and increasing interest in implementing the use of herbs as a treatment support. Therefore, further efforts need to be made to increase insight and prevention related to Diabetes Mellitus by using herbal plants holistically.

Abstract

Riau Province has abundant natural resources of mangrove forests almost along the coast of Riau. Mangrove fruit can be developed into various processed foods, but processed foods derived from mangroves have not been widely developed and are of interest to coastal communities. Kombucha tea is a probiotic beverage produced through the fermentation of tea and sugar using a kombucha starter known as SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast). The presence of sugar in kombucha colonies is a vital source of nutrition. Additionally, fruit juice can be incorporated to create variations of kombucha tea. Kedabu fruit (Sonneratia ovata B.), a native fruit of Riau Province, is recognized for its high carbohydrate content and secondary metabolites, which exhibit potential antibacterial properties. This research developed four formulations of kombucha tea, each with different concentrations of kedabu fruit juice (0%, 10%, 20%, and 30%). The study’s objectives were to formulate, evaluate the physicochemical properties and antibacterial activity of these formulations against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The organoleptic properties, alcohol content, pH, %TTA (Total Acidity Titratable), total LAB (Lactic Acid Bacteria), and yeast count were assessed during a 14-day fermentation period. The assay results indicated that the kombucha fruit kedabu tea formulation exhibited favorable organoleptic characteristics, a decrease in pH, an increase in %TTA, total LAB, and yeast count within the acceptable range defined by standards. Moreover, it displayed inhibitory activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, falling within the weak to moderate categories.

Abstract

Elderly people who undergo regular drug therapy often face problems in adjusting the time they take medication during fasting. This is due to changes in eating schedules during Ramadan. Some medications may require adjustments in dose, frequency, or even formulation so that they continue to work well. The aim of this service is to increase public understanding, especially the elderly, about how to manage medication schedules and doses during fasting. Service activities are carried out using a demonstration and discussion system by giving brochures to the elderly at UPT PSTW Husnul Khotimah. Starting from filling out the questionnaire sheet (pre-test), distribution of brochures, verbal education and ending with filling out a questionnaire sheet (post-test) related to participants' understanding of the information that has been presented. Based on the results, an increase in the average value was obtained pre-test by 41.25% to 72.16% in post-test, and in statistical tests with Paired Sample Test shows a significance value of 0.000, which indicates there is a significant difference between before and after counseling. So it can be concluded that the counseling carried out at UPT PSTW Husnul Khotimah significantly increased the knowledge of the elderly, especially regarding the use of medication during fasting.

Abstract

Tingginya kasus COVID-19, mengharuskan masyarakat untuk melakukan berbagai upaya preventif atau pencegahan, salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan adalah dengan menjaga imunitas tubuh yang dapat ditingkatkan dengan penggunaan multivitamin. Multivitamin mengandung beberapa vitamin dan mineral, kecukupan zat gizi terutama vitamin dan mineral sangat diperlukan dalam mempertahankan sistem kekebalan tubuh yang optimal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggunaan multivitamin pada masyarakat di salah satu apotek Kota Pekanbaru selama pandemi COVID-19. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian observasional yang bersifat deskriptif dengan teknik pengambilan data secara retrospektif. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah data semua penjualan multivitamin selama pandemi Covid-19 dari bulan Maret 2020 hingga Juni 2021. Sampel adalah semua populasi sehingga teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan yaitu sampel jenuh. Data yang diambil adalah data sekunder berupa data penjualan multivitamin selama pandemi Covid-19 dari bulan Maret 2020 hingga Juni 2021. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penjualan nama multivitamin yang paling banyak adalah Zegavit® sebanyak 10,41% dengan zat aktif Vitamin C sebesar 45,40%, bentuk sediaan multivitamin yang paling banyak terjual adalah tablet atau kaplet dengan persentase 68,16% dengan komposisi kombinasi sebesar 98,42%. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian disimpulkan multivitamin yang paling tinggi angka penjualannya yaitu multivitamin kombinasi dengan bentuk sediaan tablet.

Abstract

AbstrakIkatan Apoteker Indonesia melakukan edukasi baru yang disebut DAGUSIBU, yang merupakan singkatan dari "Dapatkan, Gunakan, Simpan, dan Buang". Dengan mengikuti langkah-langkah yang diuraikan dalam program DAGUSIBU yang dimulai dengan perolehan obat-obatan dan diakhiri dengan pembuangannya. Salah satu lapisan masyarakat yang sejak dini harus mengetahui tentang penggunaan obat adalah Siswa SMA. Untuk memastikan siswa tidak melakukan kesalahan dalam menggunakan obat, kegiatan sosialisasi DAGUSIBU dilaksanakan karena siswa masih belum memiliki cukup informasi tentang cara menggunakan obat yang benar.  Siswa SMA An Namiroh Kota Pekanbaru mengikuti sosialisasi DAGUSIBU dengan menggunakan kuesioner sebelum dan sesudah tes untuk mengukur pengetahuan mereka. Sebanyak 50 siswa yang mengikuti sosialisasi menunjukkan terjadinya peningkatan pengetahuan yaitu dari 75% pada pretest menjadi 93,4% pada posttest. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman siswa terhadap DAGUSIBU dapat meningkat sebesar 18,4% ketika sosialisasi ini diadakan. Kata kunci: dagusibu; pengetahuan; obat. AbstractThe Indonesian Pharmacists Association is conducting a new education program called DAGUSIBU, which stands for “Get, Use, Store, and Dispose”. By following the steps outlined in the DAGUSIBU program that starts with the acquisition of medicines and ends with their disposal. One of the layers of society that should know about the use of medicines from an early age is high school students. To ensure that students do not make mistakes in using medicines, DAGUSIBU socialization activities are carried out because students still do not have enough information about how to use medicines correctly.  Students of An Namiroh High School in Pekanbaru City participated in the DAGUSIBU socialization using pre- and post-test questionnaires to measure their knowledge. A total of 50 students who participated in the socialization showed an increase in knowledge from 75% in the pretest to 93.4% in the posttest. The results show that students' understanding of DAGUSIBU can increase by 18.4% when this socialization is held. Keywords: dagusibu; knowledge, medicine.

Abstract

Hypertriglyceridemia is a condition when there is an increase in triglyceride levels in the blood. Hypertriglyceridemia can cause heart problems. One of the plants that can be used as medicine is the root plant kaik-kaik (Uncaria cordata (lour.) Merr). This study aims to determine the effect of giving ethanol extract of kaik-kaik (Uncaria cordata (lour.) Merr) leaves on serum triglyceride levels of male white rats (Rattus norvegicus). The parameters used were serum triglyceride levels of male white rats induced by high fat feed, namely quail egg yolk as much as 10 ml/kgBB. This study used 18 male white rats which were divided into 6 groups with 3 rats per group. The normal group was fed only with rats and Na CMC suspension, the negative group was given high-fat feed induction and Na CMC suspension. The positive group was given high-fat feed induction and 0.9 mg/kgBB of atorvastatin suspension. The treatment group was given high-fat feed and a suspension of ethanol extract of kaik-kaik root leaves at doses of 100, 200, and 400 mg/kgBB as much as 1% of body weight given orally. The method used was colorimetric enzymatic using a Mindray® photometer (BA-88A) at a wavelength of 510 nm. Triglyceride level data on days 0, 15, 22 and 29 were analyzed by one-way ANOVA test and repeated ANOVA. The results showed that the ethanol extract of kaik-kaik root (Uncaria cordata (Lour.) Merr) leaves at doses of 100, 200 and 400 mg/kgBB had an effect in reducing serum triglyceride levels of male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) indicated by differences. which was significant (p <0.05) with negative control and showed activity to decrease triglyceride levels which was not significantly different (p> 0.05) with atorvastatin.

Abstract

Betel nut (Areca catechu L.) is a natural material that has antibacterial activity in treating diseased on teeth, halitosis and can inhibit of dental caries. The objective of this research is type of bacteria based on morphology, the results of bacterial identification tests on the tongue and to determine the effect of the inhibitory power of betel nut ethanol extract (Areca catechu L.) to bacteria of the tongue. Antibacterial activity testing using disc diffusion method with various concentrations of 10%, 20% and 30%. Secondary metabolite contents are alkaloid, terpenoid and flavonoid.The results obtained from the identification test based on the color of bacteria Branhamella catarrhalis, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Straphylococcus aureus. Ethanol extract of areca nut (Areca catechu L.) is better to inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus aureus compared to Branhamella catarrhalis. Based on Two Way Anova statistical data on inhibitory zone diameters, there were differences between the concentration groups of 10%, 20% and 30% and there were significant differences in the inhibitory activity of Branhamella catarrhalis bacteria compared to Staphylococcus epidermidis and Straphylococcus aureus bacteria but not significantly different between Staphylococcus epidermidis and Straphylococcus aureus bacteria

Abstract

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) merupakan penyakit autoimun kronik yang ditandai oleh peradangan pada membran sinovial, sehingga menimbulkan nyeri, kekakuan, pembengkakan, dan kerusakan sendi yang bersifat progresif. Penyakit ini tidak hanya menyerang sistem muskuloskeletal, tetapi juga bersifat sistemik dan dapat memengaruhi berbagai organ seperti paru, jantung, dan ginjal. Proses inflamasi kronik yang berlangsung lama, ditambah dengan penggunaan terapi imunosupresif jangka panjang, menyebabkan penurunan fungsi sistem imun. Akibatnya, pasien RA menjadi lebih rentan terhadap berbagai infeksi, termasuk infeksi saluran pernapasan atas (ISPA). ISPA pada pasien RA dapat memperburuk kondisi inflamasi yang sudah ada dan memicu kekambuhan atau flare penyakit melalui peningkatan respons imun sistemik. Selain itu, infeksi akut juga dapat mengganggu metabolisme tubuh serta keseimbangan elektrolit, salah satunya menyebabkan hipokalemia. Kondisi hipokalemia ini berkontribusi terhadap munculnya kelemahan otot, kelelahan, serta gangguan fungsi neuromuskular. Pada beberapa kasus, RA juga berhubungan dengan gangguan fungsi ginjal, seperti renal tubular acidosis distal, yang semakin memperparah ketidakseimbangan elektrolit tersebut. Kombinasi antara RA, ISPA, dan hipokalemia dapat meningkatkan risiko timbulnya gejala lain, seperti tension type headache (TTH). Gejala ini dipicu oleh nyeri kronik, stres sistemik, gangguan tidur, serta kelelahan yang berkepanjangan. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa RA merupakan penyakit kompleks yang dapat berkembang menjadi kondisi multisistem dengan berbagai komplikasi serius. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan penatalaksanaan yang komprehensif dan berkelanjutan untuk mengendalikan inflamasi, mencegah infeksi, menjaga keseimbangan metabolik, serta meningkatkan kualitas hidup pasien secara optimal dan menyeluruh.
