Abstract

The main issue addressed in this study is the limited creative thinking skills among students. During classroom activities, teachers often employ learning models that are less effective, causing students to become passive and struggle to grasp the material presented. This study seeks to examine how the implementation of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model affects students' academic performance and creative thinking abilities in seventh-grade biology instruction. A quantitative descriptive design was adopted, employing a quasi-experimental method with a randomized pretest–posttest control group structure. The research population consisted of 51 students. Data were collected through pretest and posttest instruments, as well as observation sheets assessing creative thinking and project performance. The findings revealed that the average score achieved by the experimental group (75.96) exceeded that of the control group (68.40). In addition, learners who engaged in the experimental treatment exhibited a very high level of creative thinking ability, whereas those in the control group demonstrated a good level. These findings suggest that applying the Project-Based Learning approach contributes significantly to improving students' academic performance and enhancing their creative thinking competence.

Abstract

This study investigated the potential use of rejected soybean milk as a raw material for producing liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) for hydroponic cultivation. The research was designed as a laboratory-based experimental study. The LOF was formulated from soybean milk waste, spent mushroom baglog, turmeric, and garlic through anaerobic fermentation. It was then characterized based on sensory and chemical properties and applied to hydroponically cultivated water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) over a 9-week growth period. Sensory evaluation showed that the resulting LOF was a brownish-orange, free-flowing, and odorless liquid, indicating the occurrence of humification processes during fermentation. Chemical analysis revealed low macronutrient concentrations, with nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium contents of 0.18%, 0.003%, and 0.16%, respectively. These values were below the Indonesian National Standard for liquid organic fertilizer. The LOF also had an alkaline pH of 8.32. Plant growth trials demonstrated a progressive decline in growth performance as the proportion of soybean-milk-based LOF increased. The AB Mix treatment consistently produced superior results across all growth parameters, including plant height, leaf number, and leaf size. Plants treated with the LOF generally exhibited yellowish-green leaves and reduced vegetative vigor, although survival remained 100% across all treatments. These findings indicate that rejected soybean milk can be valorized into a physically stable LOF; however, the current formulation provides insufficient plant-available nutrients and may induce plant stress due to its high pH and the potential phytotoxic effects of turmeric and garlic extracts. Further optimization through nutrient enrichment, pH adjustment, and controlled additive concentrations is therefore required to develop soybean-milk-based LOF as a viable alternative to synthetic AB Mix for hydroponic cultivation.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of implementing the Assemblr Edu AR: BioDigest application on students’ cognitive learning outcomes and to evaluate student engagement in the affective and psychomotor domains during instruction on the digestive system in Grade XI at SMA Batik 2 Surakarta. This study employed a quasi-experimental method using a nonequivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of two classes: XI EIPA 1 as the control class, which used PowerPoint media, and XI EIPA 2 as the experimental class, which used the Assemblr Edu AR: BioDigest application. Data were collected through learning achievement tests and validated observation sheets, and were analyzed using an independent samples t-test and N-gain analysis. The results showed a significant difference between the experimental and control classes in cognitive learning outcomes (p < 0.05). The effectiveness of the instructional media in the experimental class was indicated by an N-gain score of 0.5944, which falls within the moderate category. In the affective and psychomotor domains, the experimental class also demonstrated higher levels of engagement than the control class. These findings indicate that three-dimensional visualization and interactive features in augmented reality can enhance conceptual understanding, learning motivation, and student skills by providing a more meaningful learning experience. Theoretically, this study contributes to strengthening research on augmented reality-based learning. Practically, it offers an innovative alternative instructional medium for biology education, particularly for abstract and complex topics.
