Abstract

A nutritional status assessment is a process undertaken to facilitating optimal development. Normal growth is defined as the optimal nutritional and health status, as indicated by conformity with the parameters set forth in growth charts. The objective of this activity is to gather data pertaining to the nutritional status of all students in grades IV, V, and VI of SDN 22 Andalas Padang, while concurrently imparting health education related to menarche as part of the students' overall growth and development. The assessment of nutritional status was conducted through the measurement of height and weight, with the calculation of the Body Mass Index and Age, of 110 students in grades IV, V, and VI of SDN 22 Andalas Padang. Additionally, health education about menarche was provided through presentations and the distribution of booklets. The results of the activity demonstrated a high level of acceptance and positive response from the teachers and leaders. The nutritional status of the students was found to be generally good, with only 4% of students having poor nutritional status, 80% having good nutritional status, 11% having overweight status, and 5% having obese nutritional status. Furthermore, the students displayed enthusiasm during the educational sessions. It can be concluded that the majority of SDN 22 Andalas Padang students have a normal nutritional status. Hopefully, this activity will form the basis for schools to carry out monitoring interventions for the nutritional status of school-age children and the continuation of regular activities by involving cross-sectoral partners.

Abstract

The Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) in Indonesia remains higher than in developed countries, with one of the main contributing factors being Low Birth Weight (LBW) infants. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that the global prevalence of LBW ranges from 15% to 20% of all births. In Indonesia, the prevalence of LBW based on the 2022 Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI) was 6%, while in West Sumatra, the LBW rate was recorded at 4.4%. At Dr. M. Djamil Hospital Padang, data from 2023–2024 showed that the incidence of LBW reached 47.49% in 2023 and increased to 52.92% in 2024. LBW increases the risk of neonatal mortality by up to 20 times and has the potential to cause long-term complications. This study aims to analyze the relationship between maternal factors and low birth weight outcomes at Dr. M. Djamil Hospital, Padang, in 2023–2024. This research used a quantitative study design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 58 postpartum mothers who met the inclusion criteria, selected using the Consecutive Sampling technique. The study found that 37.9% of newborns had LBW, 36.2% of mothers were either too young or too old, 37.9% were primiparous, 41.4% had preterm gestational age, and 39.7% experienced hypertensive disorders during pregnancy. Additionally, 43.1% of infants had severe asphyxia based on Apgar scores, 82.8% required NICU care, and 53.4% had comorbid asphyxia-related conditions. Bivariate analysis using the chi-square test showed significant associations between maternal age (p=0.018), parity (p=0.028), gestational age (p=0.024), and pregnancy morbidity (p=0.029) with LBW. There is a significant relationship between maternal age, parity, gestational age, and pregnancy morbidity with the incidence of low birth weight. Effective interventions are needed to reduce the prevalence of LBW and its associated complications. Low Birth Weight (LBW), Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), Maternal Factors, Neonatal Outcomes, Dr. M. Abstract

Abstract

Background: Continuity of Care (CoC) is a midwifery care approach emphasizing continuous and interpersonal relationships between health providers and women throughout pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and family planning periods. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the impact of CoC implementation by midwifery students on women’s trust in health services. Methods: The research involved 30 women who received CoC care from students of the Midwifery Professional Program, Faculty of Medicine, Andalas University. Data were collected through observation of CoC implementation and a validated trust questionnaire covering four dimensions: students’ competence, interaction comfort, confidentiality, and readiness to receive care. Results: Statistical analysis using a paired t-test showed a significant increase in women’s trust scores after receiving CoC (mean score increased from 3.2 to 4.4; p < 0.05). Linear regression analysis indicated that the quality of CoC implementation significantly influenced women’s trust levels (R² = 0.52). Conclusion: These findings demonstrate that CoC provided by midwifery students not only enhances the quality of care but also strengthens the trust relationship between women and health providers. The results are expected to contribute to the development of midwifery education curricula emphasizing continuity of care and empathy in clinical practice.
