Abstract

Immunity and growth were problems in main focus in fish farming bussiness. The use of herbal ingredients in feed can be a solution. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of adding herbal supplements to feed in increasing the growth of Tilapia. The method used was a field experiment bya selecting tilapia in pond (8x3 m2). Adding natural supplements to feed begins with making herbal concoctions, then supplementing them with 50 mL/Kg feed..Fish were given feed at 3%/body weight for 1 month. The absolute growth in lenght and weight were 7.09±1.38 cm and 136.05±27.48 g. The feed conversation ratio was around 1.28, the feed efficiency was around 77.7% and the survival rate reached 100%. Herbal concoctions can increase immunity and optimal growth. .

Abstract

Pathogenic bacteria are one of the main challenges in the cultivation of Pangasianodon hypophthalmus because they can cause organ damage and even death. The utilisation of natural ingredients such as Archidendron pauciflorum peel extract is one alternative to improve fish health in an environmentally friendly manner. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of adding Archidendron pauciflorum peel extract in feed on haematological parameters of Pangasianodon hypophthalmus. A total of 160 test fish were divided into four treatments with extract doses of 0% (control), 0.01%, 0.02%, and 0.03%, for 21 days. Parameters observed included total erythrocytes, haemoglobin levels, and haematocrit values. The results showed that Archidendron pauciflorum peel extract significantly increased haemoglobin levels and haematocrit values (P<0.05), especially at the 0.03% dose, compared to the control. Total erythrocytes showed a decrease on day 21 in all extract treatments, presumably due to the content of bioactive compounds (tannins, flavonoids, and saponins) in high doses. Bioactive compounds in Archidendron pauciflorum peel extract such as flavonoids, saponins, and tannins are known to play a role in improving haematological parameters, but their use needs to pay attention to the appropriate dose so as not to cause negative effects.

Abstract

Aquaculture technology to increase productivity includes sex reversal or masculinization. Masculinization of snakehead fish (Channa striata) is essential to balance the male sex ratio for sustainable aquaculture. One approach is the use of natural compounds to reduce dependence on synthetic hormones that are less environmentally friendly. Natural substances such as mangosteen peel extract (Garcinia mangostana) contain aromatase inhibitors. This study aimed to determine the optimal dosage of mangosteen peel extract for inducing sex reversal in snakehead fish. Two-week-old fry were immersed in different treatments (control 0 g/L, 0.5 g/L, 0.7 g/L, and 0.9 g/L) for 4 hours and reared for 2 months. Gonads were examined microscopically using aceto-carmine staining. Results showed that the highest male proportion was obtained at 0.9 g/L, while the highest survival rate was recorded at 0.7 g/L. The Kruskal–Wallis test (H=7.64; p=0.054) indicated no significant differences among treatments in male proportion. The Mann–Whitney U test (p=0.077) between control and each treatment confirmed that formal differences were not significant, although a trend of increased male proportion was observed across all treatments. One-way ANOVA (F=16.72; p=0.0008) demonstrated that treatment doses significantly affected survival. Tukey HSD revealed that all treatments differed significantly from control (p<0.05), while no significant differences occurred among treatment doses (p>0.05). In conclusion, doses of 0.5–0.9 g/L were effective in promoting masculinization while maintaining optimal survival in snakehead fish.

Abstract

The Klawing River plays an essential role as a source of livelihood for local communities and as a habitat for various fish species, yet it is increasingly under pressure from human activities and environmental changes. This study aims to identify the forms of local wisdom practiced by fishing communities in managing fishery resources and to assess their relevance to modern challenges. The research was conducted in five villages representing the upstream, middle, and downstream sections of the river using a qualitative descriptive approach through interviews and observations involving 40 respondents. The results show that local wisdom is reflected in the use of traditional fishing gear (nets, gillnets, fishing lines, paser, wuwu, and mijahan), the application of the pranata mangsa as a seasonal fishing guide, social solidarity among fishers, and the Gredug Sampah tradition focused on maintaining river cleanliness. These practices now face limitations due to climate change, the introduction of invasive species, and economic pressures. The declining accuracy of the pranata mangsa indicates the need to integrate traditional ecological knowledge with modern climatological information to enhance community adaptation to ecosystem dynamics. Therefore, the synergy between local wisdom and scientific approaches is crucial for achieving an adaptive and sustainable fishery resource management system in the Klawing River.

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis adopsi teknologi digital pada UMKM pemula di Kabupaten Cilacap, dengan fokus pada pengaruh gender terhadap tiga aspek utama: akses, penggunaan, dan keberlanjutan teknologi. Menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain survei korelasional, penelitian ini melibatkan 50 responden yang terdiri dari 25 pelaku usaha laki-laki dan 25 pelaku usaha perempuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa akses terhadap teknologi memiliki pengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap adopsi teknologi digital (p = 0,000), sementara penggunaan teknologi tidak menunjukkan pengaruh signifikan (p = 0,552), yang mencerminkan bahwa meskipun UMKM telah memanfaatkan teknologi, pemanfaatannya belum mendalam atau strategis. Keberlanjutan bisnis menunjukkan pengaruh negatif yang signifikan (p = 0,018), menandakan bahwa UMKM yang lebih fokus pada stabilitas dan keberlanjutan usaha lebih berhati-hati dalam mengadopsi teknologi disruptif. Penelitian ini juga mengungkapkan adanya ketimpangan gender dalam hal akses teknologi, di mana perempuan UMKM lebih terbatas dalam memanfaatkan teknologi dibandingkan laki-laki, khususnya terkait dengan waktu, infrastruktur, dan peran domestik. Oleh karena itu, strategi digitalisasi yang inklusif dan sensitif terhadap gender sangat diperlukan untuk mengurangi kesenjangan digital, terutama bagi UMKM perempuan. Temuan ini memberikan wawasan penting untuk merumuskan kebijakan dan program intervensi yang dapat memperkuat adopsi teknologi digital secara lebih merata dan berkelanjutan, yang pada akhirnya dapat meningkatkan daya saing UMKM di Kabupaten Cilacap.

Abstract

Tilapia is one of the leading commodities in fisheries and requires proper handling in the distribution process so that fish do not experience stress and death. One of them is by using anesthesia. Anesthetic ingredients are divided into two, namely natural and artificial, one of the natural ingredients that has the potential as an anesthetic is ketapang leaves because it has flavanoid and alkaloid compounds that are considered capable of providing hypnotic sedative effects and anti-anxiety substances for fish. The study applied 4 treatments (5 ppm; 10 ppm; 15 ppm; and 20 ppm) of ketapang leaf infusum solution with the method used was descriptive qualitative to obtain research conclusions. The results obtained were the use of ketapang leaf infusion was able to increase lymphocyte levels from 42.13-58.15% to 52.35-60.21%. At a concentration of 20 ppm ketapang leaf infusion has the fastest inductive time of 23 minutes 41 seconds with a sedative time of 18 minutes 52 seconds. From these results it can be concluded that ketapang leaf infusion has potential as a natural anesthetic, but other studies are still needed regarding the percentage of content, effective dose and toxicity of ketapang leaf infusion solution on the hematological condition of tilapia.

Abstract

Kerang hotate (Mizuhopecten yessoensis) adalah salah satu spesies bivalvia laut yang banyak dibudidayakan di Jepang karena kualitasnya yang baik dan produktivitasnya yang tinggi. Namun terdapat beberapa permasalahan dalam budidaya kerang hotate, salah satunya yaitu adanya hama predator dan organisme penempel. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Teluk Funka, Hokkaido, Jepang pada tanggal 15 April – 5 Desember 2022. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi hama predator dan organisme penempel yang terdapat pada budidaya kerang hotate. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi, partisipasi aktif, serta wawancara. Pengambilan data dalam penelitian ini meliputi data primer dan data sekunder. Hama predator yang ditemukan pada budidaya kerang hotate yaitu Asterias amurensis, Patiria pectinifera, Erimacrus isenbeckii, dan Paralithodes camtschaticus. Sedangkan organisme penempel yang ditemukan pada budidaya kerang hotate yaitu Mesocentrotus nudus, Strongylocentrotus intermedius, Mytilus edulis, Balanus rostratus, Ascidiella aspersa, dan Hydroides elegans.
