Abstract

Cultivation of plants by utilizing a small area can be developed, especially during a pandemic, among others, by using a hydroponic system. Vegetable yields (pakcoy, lettuce) do not always have good quality due to pest attacks, including in the hydroponic system, resulting in a decrease in both quantity and quality, which affects the income and turnover of this micro-enterprise (UMKM). The objectives of this service are 1) provide knowledge and skills in making biopesticides based on refugia plants or organic pesticides (“pestisida nabati”) in order to improve the quality and quantity of production, and 2) The practice of “pestisida nabati” application for hydroponic cultivation. Service activities are carried out with the following methods: providing material and discussion, making vegetable pesticides/biopesticides, and applying “pestisida nabati”  in hydroponic cultivation in Micro Business Groups (UMKM "Ini Hydroponics." Accordingly, 12 participants in the training for making biopesticides and their application were practitioners, partners, and students interested in developing hydroponics. The training on making biopesticides with the essential ingredients of mischievous (Cosmos caudatus) and neem leaves (Azadirachta indica) has resulted in a solution of vegetable pesticides ready to be applied in hydroponic cultivation. The spraying application is carried out on the first day after the biopesticide is made and a week later. Based on observations of the quality of lettuce harvested a week after spraying, the product obtained showed a lower pest attack than before.

Abstract

Pesticides are considered as a savior of farmers in the implementation of agricultural cultivation. The practical and effective nature of using pesticides makes it easier for farmers to eradicate plant pests. The existence of a synthetic insecticide, namely DDT (Dichoro Diphenyl Trichlorethane), became a revolution in pest control techniques, which rely on the use of pesticides. Pesticides can increase agricultural production and other supporting commodities such as fisheries and livestock. Large-scale agricultural producers to small farmers with a narrow area are depend on pesticides. However, it also causes damage to the pest ecosystem based on the food chain. It has an impact on human health, such as disability, growth disorders, and even death. Human health and environmental issues related to pesticide handling are often reported in the largest synthetic pesticide user countries, including Indonesia. The accumulation of chemical pesticide compounds causes environmental pollution residues, due to their use in the community. On the other hand, farmers and agricultural actors very often neglect the use of adequate personal protective equipment and safety labels. Based on the very broad impact of pesticides on health, preventive measures are needed to help them so as not to experience pesticide poisoning, including regulation of Pesticide Tolerance Limits for pesticide products that will be traded, and providing information/counseling about pesticide applications in a measurable and safe manner. Proper direction and use are needed in the use of doses, concentrations, timing of pesticide application, and safe use with discipline in the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)..

Abstract

Vocational High Schools (SMK) in the learning process are supported by laboratories or workshops that provide competence to students. The existence of the Teaching Factory program as a result of cooperation between SMKN and industry is one factor that requires the school to prepare quality documents, competent laboratory managers, and skilled students. Therefore, well-organized Laboratory Management will benefit schools, students, laboratory users, and stakeholders. This activity aims to provide understanding and assistance in compiling laboratory quality documents that adopt the SNI ISO 17025:2017 quality management system. This system regulates testing laboratories and calibration laboratories, but it is very appropriate if adopted in several cases to be applied to educational laboratories, especially the preparation of laboratory quality documents. Community Service activities were conducted at SMKN 4 in Bondowoso Regency and SMKN 8 in Jember Regency. Based on the discussion and questionnaire results, the activity showed that at both SMKNs, the understanding of the laboratory quality management system increased (72.7%) for both students and managers (teachers and technicians/labor). Quality documents for levels 2, 3, and 4 at both SMKNs have been compiled. The number of Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) documents at SMKN 4 is 8 SOPs; at SMKN 8, as many as 31 SOPs are based on SNI ISO 17025:2017 laboratory QMS.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the factors affecting the post-weaning growth of Boer and Boer cross goats in a closed breeding farm population. A total of 1,083 female kids were selected from a record of 1,501 weaned kids produced by mating Boer bucks with Boer does, Jawarandu does, and Boer × Jawarandu does. The data collected at a private company's goat farm represent a closed breeding population from January 2013 to January 2016. The data were selected based on the weaning weight and at least one post-weaning weight at approximately 6, 9, or 12 months. Two-step linear models were applied: complete model and reduced model. The complete model factors included genetic group, buck, litter size, birth season, weaning season-year, and their interactions. The reduced model included only significant factors and two-way interactions. The results showed that the genetic group, bucks, litter size, birth season, and weaning season-year significantly affected Boer and Boer cross goats' post-weaning weight and average daily gain. Additionally, interactions between the genetic group with the buck, litter size, and birth season were observed. In conclusion, genetic and non-genetic factors significantly influence the post-weaning growth of Boer and Boer cross goats. Non-genetic factors should be considered in the model and selection to achieve optimal goat performance.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: asosiasi, produksi susu, sapi FH Indonesia, variasi genotip gen PIT1.Association of PIT1|HinfI Genotype Variation on Milk Production of Indonesian Friesian Holstein Dairy Cattle ABSTRACT Pituitary Specific Transcription Factor 1 or known as PIT1, is a gene which function to control the pituitary gland and act as regulatory factor for growth hormone and other hormones related to milk production. The current study was aimed to associate the variant of PIT1 genotype on milk production in Indonesian Friesian Holstein. In total, 42 dairy cows were sampled for DNA source. Phenotypic data of milk yielded from first and second lactation were recorded then standardized to 305 days. To scan PIT1 genotype variation, PCR-RFLP was employed using HinfI restriction enzyme. Three types of PIT1 genotype were found, namely AA, AB, and BB; its frequencies were 0.21; 0.26; and 0.52, respectively. The allele frequencies of allele A and B were 0.35 and 0.65, and the population is in equilibrium condition (p<0.05). Significant associations (p<0.05) were found between genotypes in lactation 1. In this study, BB genotype yielded highest milk compared to other genotypes in lactation 1, but no differences among genotypes were observed in lactation 2. In a conclusion, the variation of PIT1 genotype in Indonesian Friesian Holstein shows potential use for genetic marker to improve milk production in this study. Keywords: association, milk yield, Indonesian Friesian Holstein, PIT1 genotype variation
