Abstract

Stroke is a leading non-communicable disease that causes disability and death worldwide. It leads to physical impairments such as paralysis and speech difficulties, along with psychological impacts like depression, anxiety, and loss of purpose. Stroke survivors must adapt to changes in physical function and social roles, where family support plays a vital role in providing motivation, emotional stability, and assistance with daily activities. Strong family support can enhance morale, treatment adherence, and overall quality of life. To analyze the relationship between family support and quality of life among stroke patients treated at the Neurology Clinic and Stroke Unit of Raden Mattaher Regional General Hospital, Jambi. This analytical observational study used a cross-sectional design with 90 respondents selected through accidental sampling. Data were collected using two instruments: a Family Support Questionnaire based on House’s theory (1981) and the Stroke Specific Quality of Life (SS-QOL) questionnaire. The Spearman Rank correlation test was applied for data analysis. Most participants reported good family support (78.9%) and good quality of life (76.7%). Statistical analysis showed a strong and significant correlation between family support and quality of life (r = 0.799; p = 0.000). There is a strong positive relationship between family support and the quality of life of stroke patients at Raden Mattaher Regional General Hospital. Enhanced family support contributes significantly to better adaptation and improved well-being among stroke survivors

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by an increase in blood glucose. The International Diabetes Federation predicts that by 2045 there will be an increase in diabetes cases of 700 million in the world. The increase in diabetes cases is closely related to the therapeutic process in patients, the process results in emotional distress until patients experience stress. Stress in diabetes has an impact on unstable blood sugar control due to increased glucose levels in the blood. So a study was conducted to determine the relationship between stress and blood sugar levels in Diabetes Mellitus patients. Research using quantitative methods with a cross sectional approach. The study population of 291 obtained 80 samples using purposive sampling techniques. The research media were DDS (Diabetes Distress Scale) questionnaire and glucometer. Univariate data analysis using frequency distribution. Bivariate data analysis using the Pearson correlation test aims to determine the relationship between the two variables. The results showed a correlation between stress levels and blood sugar levels in Diabetes Mellitus patients with pearson correlation analysis obtained p-values of 0.000<0.05 and r = 0.650. The Conclusion there is a relationship between stress levels and blood sugar levels in Diabetes Mellitus patients at the Simpang IV Sipin Health Center in Jambi City. Advice puskesmas to educate patients to better control blood sugar, and encourage patients for always think positively to avoid stress

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that requires long-term management and strong social support, particularly from the family. Family support plays a major role in patients’ ability to control the disease, adapt to lifestyle changes, and improve their quality of life. This review aims to examine research findings from the last five years (2020–2025) regarding the relationship between family support and the quality of life of patients with Type II Diabetes Mellitus. Based on an analysis of 15 national and international journals, all studies indicate a significant relationship between the level of family support and the improvement of patients’ quality of life. Emotional, informational, instrumental, and appraisal support are key factors in enhancing treatment adherence and patients’ psychological well-being.
