Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the Circular Economy Business Model (CEBM) in rural eco-tourism through a case study of Cikahuripan Village, Bandung. It explores how circular economy principles can support environmental sustainability, improve waste management, and enhance local economic resilience amid infrastructural, financial, and technological limitations. A qualitative approach was employed using in-depth interviews and focus group discussions involving community leaders, tourism actors, and policymakers. The findings highlight three major barriers, namely ineffective waste handling, weak financial mechanisms to sustain recycling initiatives, and low adoption of digital tools. These constraints undermine the viability of community-based eco-tourism efforts. The study recommends improving infrastructure, providing incentives for eco-friendly enterprises, and expanding digital literacy. Strengthening multi-stakeholder collaboration and encouraging visitor participation in conservation activities are also essential for fostering sustainable tourism in rural areas.

Abstract

This study investigates the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in domestic Islamic pilgrimage (ziarah) among urban Generation Z Muslims in Indonesia. Using the Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) approach, the study tests a conceptual model that incorporates perceived usefulness, AI-spiritual compatibility, trust in AI-generated religious content, perceived social norms, attitude, behavioral intention, and actual use behavior. Based on responses from 323 participants, the results indicate that attitude toward AI-assisted pilgrimage is the strongest predictor of both intention and actual usage. Perceived usefulness, trust, and social norms also significantly influence behavioral outcomes, while AI-spiritual compatibility exerts a weaker yet positive effect. These findings suggest that a combination of individual evaluation and socio-cultural context shapes the adoption of spiritual technology. The study contributes to the growing discourse on digital religion by demonstrating how AI can facilitate meaningful religious experiences. Implications for developers, religious leaders, and policymakers are discussed, along with directions for future research.

Abstract

Community-based tourism development is one of the effective strategies to increase the economic potential and welfare of local communities. As a model for tourism development, tourist villages prioritize cultural values, local wisdom, and environmental sustainability by actively involving the local community in tourism activities. This concept aims to promote sustainable and inclusive tourism, where local communities directly benefit through the provision of tourism services and products, such as homestays, handicrafts, traditional cuisine, and cultural attractions. Mekarsari Gambung, as one of the tourist villages developed through the Bandung State Polytechnic's Fostered Village program, exemplifies how tourism management can be carried out using a community-based approach. In its development, educational tourism packages like EduTea, EduCoffee, and Dairy Farm Half Day Trip are designed not only to provide tourism experiences for visitors but also to strengthen the skills and knowledge of local communities. Community involvement in these tourism activities can open up new job opportunities, increase income, and encourage the preservation of village culture and environment. The fostered village program also supports the development of human resource capacity through training and mentoring, ensuring the continuous improvement of tourism service quality. Thus, the development of sustainable and community-based tourism tourist villages provides long-term benefits for village development and community welfare.
