Abstract

ABSTRACTPhysiological and biochemical changes in seeds indicates levels of viability and vigor during deterioration. The aims of the research were to study the patterns of biochemical changes in soybean seeds and its relationship to seed vigor during storage under controlled conditions. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design using two varieties as a factor which was nested into storage period and replicated four times. Two varieties were Gepak Kuning and Mallika, stored in controlled condition at temperature of 19-22 °C and 64-67% of relative humidity for six months. The seeds were evaluated for protein, peroxide value, electrical conductivity and seed viability. The exponential regression analysis was used to determine the patterns of biochemical changes of each soybean varieties during the storage period. The results showed that the biochemical behaviour of soybean seeds stored under controlled conditions for 24 weeks following the exponential equation of y = a + b expcx, which a, b, and c were constants that has different value for each variety. Electrical conductivity and peroxide value could be used as indicators of seed vigor during storage under controlled conditions for 24 weeks. Seed storage under controlled conditions are to maintain seed vigor >80% up to 12 weeks for Mallika and 24 weeks for Gepak Kuning with low oxidative process and less membrane damages.Keywords:deterioration, storability, vigor

Abstract

This study explores the role of interpersonal communication in enhancing team work effectiveness in the digital era, focusing on how effective communication practices can strengthen mutual understanding, coordination, and collaboration within teams. Utilizing a qualitative method and literature review, this research collected and analyzed data from various contemporary sources to comprehend the dynamics of interpersonal communication within the context of technology-supported team work. The findings indicate that interpersonal communication characterized by openness, empathy, and support not only strengthens relationships among team members and builds trust but also reduces misunderstandings and conflicts. Furthermore, the study highlights the importance of training in interpersonal communication skills to bolster team cooperation and expedite the collaboration process by leveraging appropriate digital communication tools. These findings underscore the significance of effective interpersonal communication strategies and the integration of digital communication technology to create a productive and harmonious work environment, as well as to improve job satisfaction, motivation, and employee retention in the digital era.

Abstract

Jagung termasuk ke dalam salah satu komoditas yang sangat prospektif. Data menunjukkan adanya peningkatan penggunaan jagung yang signifikan dari tahun 2014 hingga 2017. Ketersediaan benih jagung hibrida maupun bersari bebas masih menjadi masalah petani di daerah-daerah terpencil. Penelitian ini bertujuan mempelajari pengaruh panjang tongkol dan letak benih terhadap mutu benih jagung. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dari bulan Maret hingga Juli 2019 bertempat di Laboratorium Penyimpanan dan Pengujian Benih, Departemen Agronomi dan Hortikultura, Fakultas Pertanian, Institut Pertanian Bogor. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) faktorial yang terdiri dari dua faktor yaitu panjang tongkol dan letak benih. Faktor panjang tongkol terdiri dari 3 taraf, yaitu <16 cm, 16-18 cm, dan >18 cm. Letak benih terdiri dari 5 taraf, yaitu T1 (pangkal tongkol), T2 (antara pangkal dengan tengah tongkol), T3 (tengah tongkol), T4 (antara tengah dan ujung tongkol), dan T5 (ujung tongkol). Hasil pengamatan dianalisis menggunakan uji lanjut Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) taraf 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa letak benih dan panjang tongkol berpengaruh secara nyata pada peubah bobot 1000 butir, benih berukuran >8 mm, benih berbentuk pipih sempurna dan persentase radicle emergence. Benih yang terletak di T4 pada semua panjang tongkol memiliki peubah benih berukuran >8 mm, benih berbentuk pipih sempurna, bobot 1000 butir, dan persentase radicle emergence yang lebih tinggi dari letak benih lainnya. Kata kunci: mutu fisik, mutu fisiologis, radicle emergence.

Abstract

Konsumsi kacang hijau nasional terus meningkat sehingga peningkatan produksi perlu dilakukan dengan meningkatkan produktivitas tanaman. Produktivitas tanaman dapat ditingkatkan salah satunya dengan menggunakan benih bermutu tinggi. Penelitian bertujuan menganalisis pengaruh ukuran benih terhadap mutu kacang hijau varietas Vima 4 dan Vimil 1. Penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium Pengolahan Benih, Laboratorium Penyimpanan dan Pengujian Mutu Benih, serta Laboratorium Biofisika Benih, Departemen Agronomi dan Hortikultura, Institut Pertanian Bogor pada bulan Januari-April 2022. Penelitian disusun menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) faktor tunggal yaitu ukuran benih dengan empat taraf ukuran (besar, sedang, kecil dan campuran). Benih varietas Vima 4 memiliki diameter (besar: ≥0.43 cm; sedang: 0.39-0.42 cm; kecil: ≤0.38 cm; campuran: 0.38≥ x ≥0.43) serta varietas Vimil 1 memiliki diameter (besar: ≥0.38 cm; sedang: 0.33- 0.37 cm; kecil: ≤0.34 cm; dan campuran:0.34≥ x ≥0.38). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan daya berkecambah dan indeks vigor benih kacang hijau varietas Vima 4 tidak berbeda nyata antara benih berukuran besar dan sedang. Ukuran benih tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap persentase perkecambahan dan indeks vigor kacang hijau varietas Vimil 1, namun berpengaruh nyata terhadap nilai daya hantar listrik. Benih berukuran besar memiliki laju imbibisi paling tinggi. Viabilitas dan vigor benih hasil seleksi dengan air screen cleaner memperlihatkan bahwa yang lebih baik terdapat pada benih berukuran besar dan sedang. Radicle emergence as a rapid indicator of sorghum seed vigor to predict mean germination time, vigor index, and field emergence. This study aimed to develop a standardized radicle emergence test for sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) seeds by determining the optimal single-count timing and temperature for the simultaneous assessment of seed vigor and viability. This test was conducted by calculating the percentage of seeds whose radicles had emerged by at least 2 mm in length during a single observation period at the beginning of germination. Seed lots with low radicle emergence rates showed slow germination, reflecting an early physiological indicator of seed deterioration and a key factor contributing to reduced vigor. The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design with one factor: 12 sorghum genotypes, and four replications (blocks). Radicle length was measured at 2-h intervals from 40 to 48 h, with a minimum length of 2 mm. Results of radicle emergence (production of 2 mm radicle) at 25°C and alternating temperatures 20⇔30°C for 44 h (the optimal time), mean germination time, germination percentage, germination speed, vigor index, maximum growth potential, tetrazolium test, and field emergence were compared using 12 genotypes of sorghum seeds with standard germination above 83%. The single counts of radicle emergence performed at 25°C and 20⇔30°C were highly correlated with key vigor and viability indicators. Correlations with vigor-related traits, such as mean germination time (R²=0.87-0.81), vigor index (R²=0.83-0.89), germination speed (R²=0.73-0.71), and field emergence (R²=0.77-0.70), were strong, as were those with viability parameters, including standard germination (R²=0.66-0.59) and tetrazolium test results (R²=0.58-0.52). This study concludes that a single count of radicle emergence at 44 h, conducted at either 25°C or 20⇔30°C, is a method for simultaneous assessment of seed vigor (mean germination time, vigor index, germination speed, and field emergence) and viability in sorghum, offering a significant improvement over more time-consuming tests, such as germination test that requires 10 days.
